  • SEAT Leon (1999 - 2005) - 00 1.6 petrol engine cuts out 4 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I have a 2000 Leon 1.6 S Petrol. First of all this has been an ongoing problem that seems to be getting worse and Seat claim that nothing is wrong with the car. The problem has been occurring since I changed my battery over.
  • Foreign plates 20 Dec 2007 (Forum)
These plates already offer immunity from parking tickets / speed cameras & the congestion charge . If my 80's diesel US pick up ( UK plated ) gets slapped with a huge road tax liability , what's stopping me from registering it say in Poland - it's already a left - hooker ? Is something being done - or is it each to our own ?
  • What car for a new driver BUT also an old lady? 12 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I reckon I could get some good advice by opening the criteria to you guys. Background ? She is early 60?s and just passed her test, so confidence is quite low. Mostly the car will be driven for short journeys around town, to and from shops, etc. The car MUST be an automatic and due to the fact of her self-confessed limited confidence, the car must be small and very easy to drive.

  • Steering while stationary 30 Sep 2007 (Forum)
But I strongly suspect that the reason is driving schools fear the damage that will be caused when learners do this while the n/s front wheel is graunched tight against a high kerb. Otherwise it has to be irrational, since clutch abuse is winked at by driving instructors. I seldom get to drive my car without having to apply steering lock while it is stationary.

  • Rover 200 and 400 (1989 - 1996) - Timing belt replacement on 92 Honda SOHC 23 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Bye the way, an addition to my last post - I found the PGFM main relay, which is a smallish brown rectangular box with 4 connectors, that is fitted onto a slide on bracket behind the cigar lighter in the centre console. Regards, Victor2 s

  • Fully Chromed Up PUG SW 7 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I used to see this old guy in the local high street driving a Lada which was covered in red "go faster stripes" and huge fog lamps on the front. When I say old, I mean he must be in his 70's, trilby hat, tartan blanket on the parcel shelf etc. He has now upgraded his car to a Pug 407SW in that delightful met' blue. My goodness! he has covered the thing in chrome strips, along the doors, bumbers, on the bonnet, hatch etc.
  • Seicento update 19 May 2007 (Forum)
Other than that, its proving reliable - in 3 weeks time it will be doing Northampton to Truro, a real test. Economy is coming in at high 40's with almost 100% town work on the last tank. Its hard to get over the idea of fragility with the car though - the 'whats that noise' feeling hasnt gone away just yet!
  • Buying advice needed, please. 14 May 2007 (Forum)
I'll run an HPI check on the car, but he told me he has £21k outstanding finance on it. This is the first time I've bought when there is o/s finance, and would welcome advice on how to proceed. I'm not at all keen simply to pay him the balance - what guarantee do I have that he will use it to pay off the finance instead of vanishing with my money?
  • Car under warranty 26 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I've got a 06 plate Astra which has been in the dealers since Saturday for warranty work, they know what the problem is but are waiting for parts. The dealer has been very good so far but vxl are not giving him a date for when the part(s) are due in. The dealer gave me a loan car straight away which has since been swapped for a better model under the t&C of the warranty, this car has come from a rental company - {edit by DD} .
  • Bouncing check for road tax 23 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I spoke to the dealer who did not sound overly surprised and he offered to send her a cheque for the tax (£110) on the basis that she pay the DVLC herself (the DVLC say that the full amount must be paid within 7 days or they will rescind the tax disk and institute proceedings). What is our best course of action, is it a) pay the tax and hope that the dealer?s cheque to my daughter is OK? b) send him the demand for the tax and get him to sort it out with DVLC? c) start legal proceedings against him on the basis that she paid for the tax and he has not delivered it?
  • Diesel waxing 14 Nov 2006 (Forum)
When I set off, my vehicle (a 2.5 DI Transit) had a full fuel tank and the weather had been hot and sunny for several weeks, with temperatures in the mid-to-high 20's. When I got to Belgium, near Bastogne in fact, the air temperature was down to around 5 degrees and in the morning the engine was slightly reluctant to start. After driving for about 10 miles at around 50-55 mph the engine seemed to be misfiring and there was some considerable vibration of a rather 'odd' sort to be felt through the gear lever.
  • Partner van, getting to glow plugs 11 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi I've just managed to change my glow plugs on the peugeot partner van, 1.9 XUD, S reg. But I didn't manage to remove the air inlet housing above the plugs, I had to struggle underneath it. Although I did manage to lift it up higher and prop it up. How are you supposed to get it off?
  • Just bought Pug 106 1.5D 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
What's the best engine oil for this car? Also when turning right car makes a noise which seems to be coming from the o/s front tyre so it could be CV joint? Is it costly? Every now and then battery light in the dashboard comes on and then just switched itself off after driving for few minutes.

  • Volvo 480 pop-up headlights that don\'t 30 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Can anyone offer any advice with a problem with the pop-up headlamps on my father\'s Volvo 480? Basically, they won\'t popup. We\'ve so far managed to eliminate the fuse, the relay - it works fine in another 480 he owns (don\'t ask), although the relay from the other car doesn\'t cure this one - and, I think, the motors.
