MINI Cooper + Cooper S 07 - Coolant leaking from filler cap 19 Jan 2011 (Forum)
There appears to be "dribble" of dried coolant stains on this cover coming out from the bottom of the logo. 4. There is a small amount of "mayonaise" in the oil filler cap, car usually has 2 runs of 10 miles/day. Is this likely just to be a faulty filler cap or something more nasty like a head gasket? The car has done about 23,000 miles. -
BMW 3 Series Touring E91 - Buying the company beemer 18 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Next June the lease runs out on my company 320D Touring and I will get a car allowance instead. I have an option to buy the 320, but am being put off by 2 things: long term reliability, eg turbos going etc, and the fact it is no good in the snow. -
Looking for a AWD Estate Car - Your advice sought 13 Jan 2011 (Forum)
But, having had the second bad winter in a row with (having done some research) a serious possibility of another 7 or so white winters to come, I am thinking of an AWD Estate instead. I have no wish to run a large SUV - the estate concept suits me ideally. I normally buy about 3 years old and then keep for several years and so, as there was a thread here in 2007 on this, I have read that; but would any of you be able to update that and suggest what I should now be looking for? -
The only problem with winter tyres is... 1 Jan 2011 (Forum)
...when you get a puncture that can't be repaired and nobody has the tyre in stock. I have the winters on steels so am currently running a summer tyre on the LF and a winter on the RF. Very far from ideal and quite sketchy to drive. I think I may have two choices, 1. get the same tyre (Nokian WR G2) with a different load rating (94H instead of 91H) 2. get a different tyre (say a Conti winterContact or Dunlop wintersport) Having spent the day driving with two radically different tread patterns I am not keen on having two different tyre designs, so how much difference does it make using a 94H instead of a 91H? -
Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 D (55 plate) - EGR valve fault 29 Dec 2010 (Forum)
No option, but to get it into Honda (arrrggghhhh). One new EGR valve later and £640 lighter, she's now running sweet as a nut. Couldnt find a cheaper new unit anywhere! Hope this helps... -
89 VW Golf II - Idle surging 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
There are times periodically when it doesn't surge when stopped, but very infrequently. The car seems to run down the road fine. I don't notice any surging at speed on the road, or any lack of power, so my guess is that it isn't a plugged fuel filter. It's an American spec car as far as I can tell, as the speedometer is in MPH. -
Vauxhall Vectra C - Flywheel symptoms of failing 26 Oct 2010 (Forum)
My Vectra 1.9cdti 150, 07 reg, has just clocked about 62,000 miles. Most of these on fast dual carriageway/motorway runs. It's been serviced to book but I have noticed a "bit of a rumble" from the clutch area when engine is ticking over and out of gear with clutch up. I mentioned it to the dealer at its 60,000 mile service - i just said "I think there is a bit of a rumble", and they say a new flywheel is needed. -
Volvo V70 - CO Emissions MOT Fail - Help Please 8 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Orange engine light is on a the minute but seems to have come on and off at will for the past 2 years without event. Car returns the same economy as always and idles and runs perfectly. Completed 1000 fault free miles in last week alone. Any guidance or pointers or advice very much apreciated as cannot afford to throw money after something that may be uneconomical to repair but can't afford to replace it either! -
Honda FRV or Vauxhall Zafira - Best value used 7 Oct 2010 (Forum)
What's the prediction on what the cars will be worth is 3 or 4 years time. Would the extra depreciation of the zafira equal the higher running costs of the frv - in which case i'll take the frv or is the zafira the most common sight on the road for a reason? That being the are great family cars. Just to head off what some might be thinking - I don't want a multipla! -
Vw Golf Match Mk 4 2003 - Emission Wanring Light 13 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Called the AA and they fixed it no problem, the light went of and was running fine for about another week. The light started to come one for a few hours and then be gone when i turnt it on in the morning it would be of. Performance didnt seem affected at all. Now the light stays on constantly, but still performance is not affected. -
Nissan Terrano II (1993 - 2005) - 97 2.7 Starting Problems 13 Sep 2010 (Forum)
The last dealer to look at the problem said a new alternator was required as the output was low. Evidently he was not aware that the glow plugs kept running until the engine temperature reached a pre-determined level. Once the engine is warm the alternator charges at not far short of 14 volts. The engine will start on a tow and will start using Easy Start (ether) but these are hardly long term solutions. -
Peugeot 407 2.0 HDi Diesel SW SV - Intermitent problem idles up and down on its own 1 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Also drives fine sometimes however I started the car today and while idling the car would drop down revs then lift the revs back up on its own? And while driving the car juddered like it was going to run out of fuel then when I got to the lights it stalled.. I cant take the car back and would appreciate some help as we dont have a lot of cash to get this fixed? Thanks very much.. -
Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 Wont Fire 17 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Previous threads suggest the SCV, but I haven't had any stalling and minimal rough running (maybe the last couple of days at intiial start up for a few seconds - I had worse last year and 0k miles agao but a new fuel filter cured that). I was going to talk to Mazda and Feathers tomorrow anyway about SCV but would appreicate any information I can get. -
dartford crossing fiasco. 5 Aug 2010 (Forum)
God- special tax when you buy a car and VAT, annual vehicle tax, fuel duty and VAT, insurance tax - how much money does it take to run the roads? I now hear that the bridge is up for sale, which means whoever buys it will need to collect the tolls. Surely the bridge belongs to Joe Public. What a reflief it would be if the whole M25 was open right around. -
SEAT Ibiza II 1.4 VW AEX engine - Noisy tappets & engine vibrates with aircon 16 Jul 2010 (Forum)
When the aircon is being used around town, as soon as you turn a corner, so the PAS is being used at the same time as the aircon pump, the car starts to vibrate quite badly, and the engine struggles, almmost as if it is running ony 3 cyclinders only. Turn aircon off, noise and vinraltions tops. help!!!! any ideas? -
Fiat Spyder 2L - Starting after 12 months non use 4 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Easy start allows it to fire up (probably on the ether) and then will sputter on 1/2 cylinders when cranking, but not run. The battery is remarkably lively for a 4year old battery that has been abused. I have suggested putting new petrol in but is there a way of bleeding the old petrol from the pump and fuel lines? -
Which reliable and economical car under 3K 29 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I am 6'3" though so I need headroom - and the more upright the driving position the better as I do get back trouble sometimes. The A1 priority for me is reliability and running costs. I've been spending an average of about a grand a year on repairs alone whilst my Dad spends about a hundred on his (cramped) Nissan Almera. So my question is - Civic or Golf or ……..? -
Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - Miffed With Honda 12 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The dealer charged me £178 to rectify the fault that was due to a short in the wiring in the tailgate. The loom runs along the top of the tailgate and then a ninety degree turn down the side to the lights. The cause of the problem was the wiring not having been secured properly and had been cut through on a lip at the top of the tailgate that was razor sharp. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.6 Does this fuel consumption sound correct? 8 Feb 2010 (Forum)
06 petrol Focus 1.6 Sport (1.6L chain-cam Duratec 100PS) which has done around 30k. I am struggling to get much above 30mpg on my run to work which is around 8 miles on town roads even when driving as softly/carefully as possible. On longer journeys of around 220 miles I am getting about 36-38mpg at 70mph. The engine is idling at around 9000rpm (when warm) which seams high compared to my old 51 plate 1.6 Corrolla, plus if I coast to a ?
