  • cheapest to run / insure but Strong 1 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I want a good choice, up to £10K. I too would love a mitsibushi animal d4d or nissan 4x4 thing. but what are they like driving at 30-40K miles a year? Will I get bored quick?
  • Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - 1997 2.8 petrol auto - sudden jumps 30 Nov 2007 (Forum)
when cold it tends to move heavily then suddenly as you are trying to drive it would hesitate then a sudden jump could anybody tell me what is wrong. I have been told there is a massive oil leak in the gear box but I am wondering if it is a massive oil leak can it still be driven and for how long.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - Passenger door jammed 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Both handles working, door opens at top but appears jammed at bottom furthest away from hinge. The door is happy staying closed, and the alarm works. Have to drive home from Germany soon, so am reluctant to risk security. Just had winter tyres fitted, but I don't think there's any connection ;-)
  • Car servicing - people's perceptions? 28 Oct 2007 (Forum)
" Ok as i have only been driving a year and a half, i am going to ask this stupid question, what exactly is a car service, what do they do that isn't done in an MOT? " I came across this on a teachers' forum (as a teacher myself I'm a bit ashamed of the level of ignorance!)
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - yr 2001 1.6 16v Petrol Engine misfire - I think! 23 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Driving along the M1 on Sunday, in fifth, climbing a bit of hill, the engine made two loudish bangs apart 1 second apart. I lost power during the bangs but it came back straight away and was ok for the rest of the journey (another 150 miles).
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Broken spring 21 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Hi all - I'm not having a lot of luck with my car recently..! Driving over the flow plates into my work car park this morning, the front o/s coil spring snapped. I'll book it into a garage to be replaced tomorrow; is it essential to replace the n/s spring as well?
  • My first MOT. 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Am I correct in thinking that I will NOT require and MOT certificate to renew said tax? No doubt they will remind me that an MOT certificate will be needed to drive the car after Dec 16th, however.
  • Toyota Celica (2000 - 2007) - Panel Beater in a hurry. 17 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I have hit the side of a wall while turning into my drive way!! The side rear panel of my car is badly scratched and dented! Was looking for advice on where to take it, and expected cost as will not be going through insurance. Please any advise will be most gratefully received!
  • Why do small cars always have to be narrow? 5 Sep 2007 (Forum)
In fact I'd prefer to buy a corsa size car but only if it was the same width as say a 5 or 7 series. Why is it manufacturers seem to think that only small people drive small cars since I've yet to find a small car I could sit in without the arms of the person next to me getting in the way of my arm and the gearshift!
  • Reversing along an Mway - Death Wish? 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
In the distance i could see brake lights and cars veering out of the way of.....A NUMPTY REVERSING UP THE INSIDE LANE BECAUSE HE`D MISSED THE JUNCTION FOR THE A2! Some people are just blind to the dangers of motorway driving. Shouting not edited I think I would have as well ! - PU
  • Honda Civic UK (2001 - 2005) - 2003 1.7d Power Steering Problem 29 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Being the new owner for just one week, I have noticed that when driving in a straight line, the steering wheel requires some additional (but small) force to make small directional corrections. There is a definate resistance to move the wheel left or right which tends to result in a slight jerkiness in the corrective steering action/path.
  • Red lights at empty crossings 14 Aug 2007 (Forum)
In due course, the lights turn red, and cars are then obliged to stop at the now-deserted crossing. Whilst being sorely tempted, I have so far resisted driving through the red lights when it is clearly obvious that no-one is there to use the crossing. Have others also resisted?!
  • VW passat "Wolfsburg Edition" 23 Jul 2007 (Forum)
In stead of the standard VW was a brown badge with the wolf's head in the middle and "Wolfsburg Edition" (or similar) around the edge. A quick search on the net points to the USA but I'd swear it was right hand drive but may be wrong. Can anybody enlighten me please. Thanks, Deecee.
  • 106 power steering problem 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
on a 106 1.5d the car since bought 2 years ago has always needed a 'blip' on the throttle to make the battery light go out and for the power steering to kick in. This has never been a problem until now and it takes a few minutes of driving for the power steering to start. Ive tested the battery which is strong and the alternator belt is new but havent tested the alternator itself as yet. Could there be a problem with the pump itself or does this sound like a electrical problem?
  • 06 Mondeo 2.0-How do I reset ECU ? 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Hello I have just purchased a 06 plate Mondeo Ghia X 2.0 Petrol 11,000 miles How do I reset the ECU Can i just remove the ECU fuse from the fuse box will that do the trick. My reason for doing this is that I don't want the previous owners driving habits to lower my fuel consumption. -- (I am not a mechanic) Martin Winters
  • BMW petrol sounds like diesel at idle 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Ever since I got it a couple of months ago, thought that it sounded a bit like a diesel at idle. Driving it the engine is near silent and very smooth from inside. But when idling it does sound slightly diesel like. At recent first oil service mentioned it to dealer who said nothing wrong with it.
  • EGR valve care Renault 27 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I understand that these valves fail rather too frequently on Renault motors - less so on the 1.5. Is there any way to prolong the life of an EGR valve? Does driving style or the use of additives make a difference? ( I use Millers for luibrication of the injection pump). Can they be cleaned and if so how?
  • Calling all 4x4 Drivers 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Please, please will you go and have a drive round? I could do with a bit of global warming instead of this continuous rain and cold. Strange how in April the papers were full of "Global Warming" but have been very quiet since. Interesting article in Telegraph today saying that car drivers are overtaxed because of this global warming lark, but can't find a link on the Telegraph site.
  • Used (56) Getz 1.4gsi target price 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Just got back from a test drive of a 56 plate Getz with about 5k on the clock. The wife thought it was a nice little car and it certainly seems an improvement on the 53 plate 1.3gsi we tested late last year. The screen price was £7999 with £1000 min p/ex.
  • GB sticker on number plate 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
(Driving in France) The rear number plate on my car has the usual small blue GB band on the left hand side, but the front one has nothing at all. Having noticed that all other cars with these have them on the rear AND front, I'm wondering if I'm required to stick one on the front plate too.
