  • Breakdown charges 3 Apr 2014 (Forum)
A few months ago I was involved in a hit and run, the drivers side window shattered whilst I was driving my car, the wing mirror was hit by an oncoming truck. Needless to say I got cuts from the shattered glass. A lady called the police for me and the officer took all the details, contacted my insurance company and breakdown service, Green Flag.
  • 2006 Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 - Ford Focus - starting problems 27 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Before Christmas I noticed the car was not always starting first time when turning the key, it seems it turned over, started and for a few seconds felt like it was going to stall before recovering and running as normal. A few weeks later I tried to start the car to go home after work and was met with the immobiliser light flashing a sequence, a lot of relay chatter from passenger fuse box and a ticking/whirring from under bonnet - after a few attempts it died completely as if the battery was flat.
  • VW Golf Estate 2.0 tdi 2009 - EGR 20 Feb 2014 (Forum)
In August 2012 there was a fault with the DPF regeneration, which was fixed under warranty. Otherwise, nothing else to report. The car is regularly used on motorway/main road runs and infrequently for short, or traffic snarled hops. I have been in discussion with VW Cutomer Care, who admit that this fault usually occurs at mileages around the 100k mark, so my car is unusual.
  • ford mondeo estate - difference in 2.0 tdci(115) zetec and duratorq 18 Feb 2014 (Forum)

  • Volvo 940 LPT - Engine missing, cutting out 10 Oct 2013 (Forum)
My 940 has an intermittent fault, dodgy starting, then runs OK, until about 20 miles later it will start missing at 2500 revs, and the tacho misses also. If I can get up to 3000 it will sometimes be OK, but can cut the ignition completely, tacho to zero although the engine is still turning, if I lift off the throttle the engine fires up and the tacho comes up again.
  • Yaris Hybrid 8 Oct 2013 (Forum)
As a family we have occasionally used the space of the Doblo but not often and really want something smaller and cheaper to run. The Doblo has had suspension issues front and back, has just failed the MOT with a frayed seatbelt and I am not confident that it will be reliable now that the warranty is about to expire! 0% finance on the Yaris and Auris Hybrids at the moment, might even get a fiver for the Doblo!
  • Rover 214 Accelerator stuck on 3 Oct 2013 (Forum)
My missus drives a Rover 200 (Rover 214 1.4 8v bubble shape to be precise) as a second run about car. Not a great car by any stretch of the imagination but we have had no problems whatsoever since we purchased it 2nd in 2001 (car is a T reg. ?99 plate). As it?s devalued so much we see very little point in selling it until it?
  • Ford Focus 1.6TDCI 2005 - Clutch slip in 4th gear only? 23 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Also noticed a bit of a rattle under acceleration develop that sounds alarmingly metallic (like a kid running a stick along wrought iron railings), which goes away once the clutch is depressed. I'm managing to drive around town no problem with it, just concerned that it's early signs of the clutch on the way out...
  • Vauxhall Astra Sxi - Vauxhall Astra 6 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I replaced the battery (Saturday) and the car started first turn of the key ( WOW I Thought ) After the first initial start the engine would only occasionally rev / respond to the accelerator and the idle was very lumpy it sounded like it may have only been running on two cylinders shortly after the engine stalled Upon restart the engine revved almost into the red but then died back to a very lumpy idle and again only occasionally responding to the accelerator Noting the fuel was quite low and thinking the petrol may have gone off over the winter months I added approx. two gallons of fuel which has made no difference at all Hoping the head gasket hasn’t gone or something more severe due to the bitter winter months Anyone help
  • peugeot 307 - Catalytic converter fault and anti pollution fault 3 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It has been to peugeot for a diagnostic test and they came up with the fact that there was a fault on cylinder 2 which has been changed however this did not correct the problem. We are now running out of options and have spent over £700 in the last 3 months and just want the car sorted now! Can anyone offer any advice please? Thanks in advance
  • Toyota Liteace - Scraped a car, owner said he would get quotes..... 21 May 2013 (Forum)
1: Repairs/pre-accident market value 2: Hire/loss of use 3: Possible loss of earnings 4: Special damages Where do i stand regarding this, as a claim will mean i can't afford to run my van and i will have to give up my job. Is it at all possible to just pay out of my own money?
  • Not sure yet but tending to a European make. - Something up to £6k ish 17 May 2013 (Forum)
Am looking for a decent 2.0 ltr HDi machine that will eat up the motorways and be ok on the shorter runs ..... aren't we all ....... and am unsure of where to direct my search.  Having just returned to the UK from the east I've really lost track of what's good and what's not so good here as I've been blinded by tacky Asian throwaway vehicles for a few years!

previous post summary: Hi I have managed to save £3000 for a car, i cant afford anymore,  it needs to be automatic,  Under 1.6 preferably  Main use is school run, shopping, afterschool activities  I hardly ever drive on motorways  I do not drive fast  I have one child who is 7, we often have his cousins, so  5 seats- our last car only had 4 seats so was not good for us (Suzuki wagon)  Not fussed on frills, just something that hopefully will be reliable for next few school years  Any advice or recommendations welcome, thanks
  • Honda- is the Accord really dead? 12 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I actually bought the H reg and my wife ran it until 2006 when we gave it away; it could still be running! Then our company went  exclusively to diesel and Honda were out of the frame for a long time. By the time they developed a decent diesel engine, the cars were very expensive and the fleet buyers were not keen.
  • Ford Focus 2.0 tdci 2006 - Car fumes inside cabin 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
This didn't solve anything and to be fair they thought there was still an issue with fuel injectors. Tests at another garage indicated fuel injectors leaking and all 4 replaced at some cost. Car running much better and diesel issues much better. Unfortunately I am still getting a dry nose and throat.... Is this because the diesel which dripped all over the engine is still burning off as I drive and will it eventually cure itself?
  • BMW 630i Sport Convertible - Sell or Retain BM630i - Canvassing opinions 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
The dilema I have is that I own a low mileage (owned fron new) BM630i sport convertible on a 2007 plate which is immaculate, always serviced by BMW and runs like a dream. I think the car to sell privately is around 14-15K with Webuyany car offering around 13K. If i kept the car for a further two years how much money would I lose 4-5k, more, bearing in mind that the car depriciated over 35K in the 6 years I have had it?
  • Volkswagon Golf S 04 - Steering Wheel Won't Lock VW Golf S 2004 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi guys   recently just had my ECU repaired due to a fried circuit board because some idiot i know decided not to put the jump leads on right when i let them use my car to jump start theirs. cost me about £575 in total for a full service aswell so not sure if thats cheap really for a repair on the ecu and a full service plus a fuel pump relay   Recently though my steering will not lock and it feels really light, like i can full lock the wheels with the engine not running and the key out of the ignition, today i had a problem getting my engine to start like the wheel had locked and you needed to nudge it to the left or right a little before turning the ignition on   i do not understand why this happened when the wheel was unlocked whats the problem does anyone know ?
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace - category c do i need to get it repaired? 25 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Apparently it needs a VIC check and new MOT, but could i get these two and sell it on without actually getting the crease repaired due to the fact that it is not deemed unroadworthy, i would sell it with full explanation of its category status, the car is 9 years old and only has 54k miles so it would last someone probably another 5 years motoring and ideal for someone who is going to run it into the ground, so to speak thanks
  • 2002 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X Petrol - Spluttering with pulling away 24 Dec 2012 (Forum)
So they had no idea, but it is starting to bug the bejesus out of me. I am certain it's affecting my fuel consumption by poor running, because when it splutters I slow down, so in response I gas it more.   Any thoughts, ideas hints??
  • Volkswagen Polo IV - Rattles for first couple of miles; rattle stops 13 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I'm not sure they're right, as the noise seems to be nearer the offside middle or rear of the car. They'll have to run it further up the road anyway to see that the noise stops. Can anyone please tell me what else it might be? Also they said changing the bushes would be a couple of hours' work. Is that right, and approx how much would parts be?
