Ex-Elton John Ferrari Daytona heads to Silverstone sale 6 Jul 2017 (News)
A 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona once owned by musician Sir Elton John is heading to auction. This matching numbers example is one of 158 genuine right-hand drive vehicles supplied, finished in Rosso Chiaro with a black interior as per the manufacturer's specification. Owned by the singer-songwriter between 1973 and 1975, the car has since passed through the hands of members of the Ferrari Owners’ Club. -

Coming from a private collection, it had two leather Montego key fobs (still in their bags), a number of previous MOT certificates, owner’s handbook pack, and a Haynes manual. A superb ambassador for the historic rally movement, Philip was a larger-than-life character who pushed motorsport boundaries, organising marathon and endurance rallies all over the globe. That means the new Juke-R is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6, which has been shoehorned under the bonnet and linked to a six-speed transaxle and a four-wheel drive system. The body has been beefed up and widened, with the chunkier wheel arches surrounding massive 20-inch wheels. The super-crossover look is finished with a split rear spoiler. The Juke-R is road-legal, but it’s a one off and won’t be on sale as a production model. -

Overcompensating for low pressures is also a problem, with 14% of cars being driven with at least one overinflated tyre. Overinflated tyres wear unevenly and more quickly. -

In the show, which is set in the 1980s and is a follow-up to Life on Mars, the vehicle is featured heavily and is used by character DCI Gene Hunt. However, the version is a replica and there is actually one authentic right-hand drive quattro in existence at a secret location. According to the company, it would be "worth an unlimited sum to an enthusiast Audi collector". "Whenever we have exhibited it, we have received a succession of surprisingly high offers, but sadly this particular car, the quattro that started it all for the company in the early eighties, will never be for sale," commented director of Audi UK Jeremy Hicks. -
