Hard Use Electric Car Range 16 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I'd be happy with a range of 250 or so miles but was reflecting on my trip this weekend from Kingston, W London, to Romford, East london. On the way back, at night, cold, wet, I'd have had headlamps on, air con + heating, radio, phone charging, and stop and start driving for 2.5 hours - covering just 22 miles.I really wonder how long the battery would last stop and go with all the accessories on. -
Vauxhall Zafira - Zafira b recall work and missing heater fuse 17 Jan 2021 (Forum)
After some recent investigation I have checked the fuse box and realised fuse 4 is now missing ( heating and air con). Could it be that bristol street motors have not done the recall work because I remember they kept saying on the day they had loads of other work to be done on other cars and it took 6 hours for them to do it when it should only take one. -
Audi A6 - Car Quality 17 Mar 2018 (Forum)
So why can’t these car companies either upgrade the carpet & charge an extra few pound which means better quality looking cars carpet wise for longer or give the customer an option to upgrade on purchase like they do for colour, air con & all the add-ons. -
Dream car? 4 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I have been thinking about what my next car would be and trying to decide what my 'dream car' would be. Sitting in traffic one day, I thought about my current car... it has a heater, air con, a radio, it's cheap to run, realiable and it'll get to 15mph pretty quickly. What more could I want when I'm stuck in traffic? I may have my dream car and hadn't realised it. There are faster cars out there, but it would be a waste for what I do. -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 1.9dci Heater blower not working on "4" 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The Scenic's heater blower has stopped working when the fan is set to position 4 (maximum). It works fine on 1,2 or 3. This is the manual air-con system, not the full blown climate control. I'm guessing it's the switch, but this being my first canbus wired car, am slightly nervous about testing it, or disconnecting anything in case I blow something up. -
Ford Focus ST170 - Engine Management failure 15 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Purchased my 03 plate ST170 5 weeks ago from a local independent dealer. Had numerous problems with the car all fixed so far under warranty (NSF suspension,Air Con, And a Engine sensor.) Unfortunately the car failed to start the other morning and a rather bad smell of plastic burning inside the car coming from driver foot-well. The car was recovered by the garage where the warranty work was done. -

Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - Compare 7 seater models 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
2.0 TD HDI 110 SE - approx 100000 miles on the clock & an 2004 1.6 HDI 110 S (AC) approx 70000 miles on the clock (does the AC stand for air con?) I have looked at various web pages for these 2 cars and the information seems to vary slightly. As the body style and layouts etc are pretty much the same, can anybody advise what the main difference is between these 2 models, apart from engine size, (eg such items as traction control etc) and whether there are any potentially major problems I should look for? -
What Credit Crunch? 11 Oct 2008 (Forum)
One particular dealer is claimimg to be 'beating the crunch' up here... but they are advertising special offer cars at the same price as they were before all this happened. The likes of your basic Corsa's without air con etc. So when will dealers give us a real deal??? -
Dad finally considering a new ( his last ) car 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Essentially, what he wants to do is replace his with a car that will eventually be used by both my mum and him when they go to one car in about 5 years. What he has asked is what can he get that has decent load capacity, cruise control, automatic and air con, but with as low as possible CO2 and decent mpg? He doesnt want to spend more than 15k if he can help it but would like a longish warranty. My first instinct was a Kia Ceed estate although not sure if you can get the auto/cruise on the diesel. -
Ford Ka - Cam swap 26 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The last engine I removed was a Dolomite 1850 in 1988 (and a Yamaha R7 in 1999, but that doesn't count), and the last cylinder head was a GSXR 600 in 2003, but I reckon I can still cut it (famous last words!). I'll try and do a mini blog on here of progress, but the only thing I've never worked on is air con. Haynes are doing the "you'll die" bit if the a/c isn't depressurised by a grown up, but as it isn't working anyway is it reasonably safe to stick a long pointy thing into the service ports to check there's no pressure? -
Peugeot 306 diesel been swimming 26 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I havent examined it yet but Im told its running on 3 cylinders (and so it should be cheap. )I wondered if anybody had experience of water damage - I suppose if somehow water got down the air intake because the bow wave was like that of a cross chanel ferry it could be a big problem. (bent con rod ?) On the other hand is it possible that one of the common rail injectors has packed in? -
Which diesel saloon for around £2,500? 11 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I did post on here recently about a 1999 Laguna 1.9TD estate I saw on ebay but rapidly lost my enthusiasm after reading everyone's comments! I'd like something reliable and economical with air con, ABS and a CD player, in other words, a lot of car for not a lot of money! TIA. -
How much to spend on a first time driver 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Now my problem is I know most people say get an old banger if its her first car cos she will probably crash it, and she can use the bangeer to get experience before getting her a proper car.......but if she does have a crash I don't want her to be in some tin can! Also if she is gonna be driving me around, i need air con, and I hate the idea of her driving around in a potentially lethal tin can with no creature comforst whatsoever.! So should I buy her a banger (£500-£1000), or maybe spend around £2-3k on her first car. -
Renault Scenic Tdci auxilliary belt 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Anyone out there tried to change the auxilliary (serpentine) belt on an '02 Scenic dci with air-con. A friend had a garage fit the above belt which a few days later decided to throw itself off the pulleys. Upon looking, it appears the belt was fitted one ridge misaligned over the pulley flange/tensioner as one rib had seperated from the belt and then caused the whole belt to jump and wind itself around the crank pulley - all this at motorway speeds. -
Ford Focus 1.8 TDDi zetec 2001 Query 17 May 2005 (Forum)
My son has looked around and finally decided he would like a Ford Focus 1.8 TDDi Zetec 2001 51 reg with 67k miles.Silver, FSH, sun roof, CD player (multi) but no air con. The car is in good condition apart from a knocking sound under the rear when test driven. The guy who owns the garage that is selling it says that will be sorted. He has a very good reputation locally, is quite elderly and one of 'the old school'which is very pleasant! -
Audi A6 2.5tdi Quattro?Watch out! 12 May 2005 (Forum)
Its got 131000 miles with full Audi service history. Is this asking price reasonable? (the car does have full leather, climate control, air con, alloys etc) Also what sort of mileages can these cars realistically run to? What do I need to watch out on this car Also never had an AUdi Quattro before so what do i need to watch/listen out for? -
HJ's bias against 'imports'? 4 Dec 2003 (Forum)
MX5s built for the Japanese market (correctly named Eunos Roadsters) are actually much better equipped than their UK counterparts. Generally a Roadster will come with standard leather and air con, sometimes with abs too. Also, the Japanese appear to drive their cars 'less' so average mileage is much lower. So why stay away from an import? Mechanically virtually the same, the only real differences are the shape of the rear number plate and a kph speedo! -
Omega...Worth a try? 18 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I'm pretty poor so I'm only looking to spend around £1000 to £1500 max, but I don't do a huge amount of miles per annum..less than 8000 a year. I'd like something with lots of toys, like air con and stuff, and I've started looking at Vauxhall Omegas, cos I like the styling and I've heard they are a nice drive. I've seen lots of nice looking examples in my price range...for instance, I saw a nice N reg 2.5 CD model with 100K miles for £1200...but it sold before I got a chance to look at it. -
306 cutting out 27 Jan 2003 (Forum)
When i am driving the car it will cut out with no warning, all of the power goes, the radio turns off and i am then stranded until the car rolls to a stop. The car will then turn over and start up with no problems. It seems worse when i am running the air con, a little extra load on the engine seems to cause this fault. I took in back to the garage yesterday 29/08/02 for 20000 miles service and still the cutting off problem. What a suprise they could not find any problems, they now want the car for a week to try and find out what is causing this fault.
