Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 1.4 sometimes wont start on warm engine 10 Apr 2009 (Forum)
It will turn over on the first attempt but wont sound like its firing at all, begin to sound like it might start on the 2nd attempt, and normally on the 3rd attempt it will start but will initially run at very low revs for a few seconds like it has been flooded. It will be absolutely fine after this and starts perfectly all other times. There are normally some visible fumes and there is a smell of petrol when it finally starts as well when this happens. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 02 2.0 Steering rack. Fitting an exchange unit. 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Had a hell of a job getting the old one out, but by dropping (and supporting) the sub frame about 3/4 inch I managed to wiggle it out. The new one slipped in fairly easily. I would suggest to any one doing a rack replacement to run all the bolts etc into their threads and out again, whilst out of the vehicle as it is quite tight once back in situ. This would clear any paint etc off the threads and make life a bit easier, especially the 40 torx bolt holding the hydraulic lines in place. -
Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 03 1.3 Engine problem (Duratec) 17 Mar 2009 (Forum)
This has never happened before. The handbook says "If [the Engine Warning Light] illuminates with the engine running, it indicates a malfunction. Have it checked by your dealer as soon as possible." Obviously I will be taking it to the dealer, but has anyone any idea what the fault might be? -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 How to spot dual mass flywheel & other prob 15 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi there, I'm thinking of buying a used high mileage ex-fleet focus 2 TDCi estate for budgetary and hang glider / bicycle haulage reasons. I intend to keep and run it daily for 9-18 months. My reading up shows that if you get a good used TDCi then they are great but I don't want to buy a duff one. Specifically I would like to know how you can tell if the dual mass flywheel is about to let go and perhaps get some indication of how healthy the high pressure fuel pump is from a test drive. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2002 2.0 petrol cabriolet engine overheating 28 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I had the thermo fan switch replaced and temp was still going up to 100. Last week had a diagnostics guy look at it and the little computer that runs the cooling system (sorry, can't remember what it's called)was replaced. Now the temp goes up to 105. Head gasket and spark plugs have been checked and are fine. At the same time the outside temp. display has gone haywire, the aerial has worked twice in 2 months, sometimes the roof won't work, and once I couldn't eject a CD for 3 days. -
Modern cars and their massive snouts. 26 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I presume that pedestrian safety legislation must have tightened severely in recent years, the space between the bonnet and engine must be huge now. This is obviously a good thing if you are unlucky enough to be run over, but it has made some cars monstrously ugly. A case in point being the Peugeot 308, take a look at one side-on and you'll see what I mean. It's funny, y'know. Cars these days are much better to have a crash in or to be hit by than their predecessors but I feel that all this passive safety comes at the expense of active safety. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 98 1.8d very poor starter......tried everything!!! 21 Feb 2009 (Forum)
This problem is especially bad in cold weather (requiring a jump start to get it going) but after a lot of smoke and chugging, once started it will start and run fine all day if not left for too long. I have read other similar posts and replies on here and have tried everything (I think), new glow plugs, glow plug relay and all cabling checked and ok, new battery, new starter motor, new fuel filter housing and it is still the same!! -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Loud 2.0TDI 19 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, My current car is a 2005 Golf 2.0 TDI GT, which is coming up for 70k. It has just been serviced at the main dealer, so should be running quite sweetly, however....... Having just returned from a jaunt to Dover in a company Passat 2.0TDI SE (56 reg), which seems to have the same 140bhp engines as mine, my car seems a) a lot louder and b) significantly slower. -
Subaru Forester II (2002 - ) - 02 2.0 Cutting out 31 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The only other way of describing the effects are if some one is turning the fule on and off. Normal driving , well pretty slow it runs fine but when I want it to go that bit quicker there it is. It has been regulary serviced and I have recently swopped the sensors from another vehicle and the fault persists. No code is held in the ECU and only once has the engine management light briefly appeared but the memory holds no info? -
Mercedes Benz S-Class W220 (1999 - 2005) - Remap or chip (tuning box) 27 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hello all, I have been running my used 2003 S320 CDI (204 bhp) for about 10,000 miles and it has been brought back up to excellent condition mechanically through a full service, some new injectors, propshaft couplings etc. Now I am looking for something extra from the 320 CDI which I believe tuning is widely available on this engine. -
France/Italy or Scotland - Early March or May? 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
We have two touring by car (well - austerity van ;-) trips this spring to still sort out. The previously mentioned run down past Azincourt - route Napoleon and into the top of Italy. Plus possibly a trip into the north west highlands of Scotland in a rented cottage north of Applecross. Unsure of the latter - but need to start planning the March trip shortly Any advice on missing school holidays in March and May in France and on the best chance of finding hotel vacancies (on the day) abroad? -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 coolant leak after w/pump & rad change 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hey all, My Astra, W reg has not long had both its radiator and water pump replaced, yet two weeks after having the pump fitted, the water/coolant had gone down to about 3/4 of an inch full. I'm getting a bit annoyed now as its getting too expensive to run if it keeps having these issues. There is no gunk under the oil cap so I'm thinking and hoping its not the head gasket, but I have noticed some water coming out of the exhaust (trickling), not sure if that's normal/relevant or not. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1998 1.6 Engine Revs by itself 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
When the engine rev's the throttle cable has returned to its tickover position. If the car is left to cool down and it may run for a few days and then it will start playing up again. Lately it has been getting worse and the ENGINE orange light comes on on the dashboard, the book says that it has something to do with the fuel mixture and to consult a dealer. -
Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 02 1.0 TD bad starting anytime 13 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Bought this November 07 and all was well untill Feb 08 when it got cold. Starting from cold was very rough, only running on 3 for a few seconds. Under warrenty a new set of glow plugs were fitted. This happened at about the same time as the weather got warmer. All ok untill it got cold again in November 08. Same problem. -
Mazda 323 (1998 - 2003) - BP Ultimate & Shell V-Power 6 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I filled it up again with the BP Ultimate and the same happened and now I've filled it up with BP Ultimate for 3rd time running. I always thought Shell VPower was better but my car has sort of proved me wrong. Has anyone else had the same sorts of experience? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 1.8 tddi estate - secondary fuel pump? 21 Dec 2008 (Forum)
can anyone tell me has this car got a fuel pump in the tank to supply the main pump, ive got flat spot at 2,800revs after that clears itself.got a diagnostic and said its lack of fuel.garage checked his diagram and its said no fuel pump in the tank, but they rang ford and they said it did,but seems very cheap £55 so my garage thinks they could be sending the wrong thing out ie some sort of gauge.if it has no fuel pump it looks like ive got to get a new main pump!! cars starts fine, runs ok apart from what i said, checked all hoses, and changed fuel filter and no smoke.only done 67,000 miles.help the car goes in to the garage monday.!! thanks {header made less vague - included a brief summary of question being asked} -
Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero (1991 - 1999) - 95 2.8td Fuel system bleeding (diesel) 20 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I did a filter service on one today, car was 100% fine before hand (except for a cold starting issue which we are putting down to the glow plug relay at the minute) but is running like a pig now and cuts out after rough idling for a couple of minutes. The only thing I can think of is air in the fuel system from doing the fuel filter, yet I bled and primed it as suggested in the service manual. -
When is a pavement not a pavement ? 7 Dec 2008 (Forum)
In my local town is a cut through road which links a main road to a large retail park. It's used as a rat run by many cars. The pavement on each side of the road is flush to the road surface along much of its length. Some of the pavement has a solid white line denoting the edge of the road and in other places there are kerb stones which only sit half an inch or so above the road surface. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2001 2.0 TDCi non-starting when cold 2 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Seeing as it happened so many times this morning, I was able to check the warning lights, and apart from oil, handbrake and battery (obviously all on until engine starts and car is moving), the fuel light (it has more than half a tank at present) was the only other light. So then any ideas? It runs fine once eventually started, but as it took so long to start this morning, i'm guessing it may not start many more times... Cheers! -
Ford StreetKa (2003 - ) - 2005 1.6 Electrical/Warning Light Problem 23 Nov 2008 (Forum)
As a non mechanical minded person, thought I'd see if anyone can help on here. Any advice will be appreciated as we spoke to the Ford garage, and they quoted £160 just to run the diagnostics! Thanks for looking.
