V778 Rtention expired -- HELP 19 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Iam desperate to keep the reg and I have been onto the dvla site where it states; "if the retention document has run out, the grantee must return the document and appropriate fee with a letter explaining why the application is late. The request will be considered. However I dont know if I the nominee can provide a reason or what that reason should be in order for it to be considered. -
Peugeot 306 1.9 Diesel 2001 - Peugeot 306 - 306 Diesel Fuel Pump set up 24 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I then removed the centre nut and ended up with sprocket/flange bolted together BUT seperate from the pump - the keyway is obviously still there on the pump BUT surely any reconditioned pump will have been turned so how will I know that it is set up right? i.e my engine is at TDC and if it was running should be about to squirt fuel to No1 cylinder? Does ONE rotation of the pump = fuel to all cylinders? Help please! -
year 2000 3.0 l dohc turbo diesel - iszuzu trooper 2 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, just new here , I have a 2000 3.0 l turbo diesel trooper, it was recalled 2 years ago for injectors, but never really ran perfect after this, however it has got to stage that its like its running on 3 cylinders now, however i had it back at main dealer last week for recall trottle position sensor, so i asked him to inspect same , he told me its one of the injector solenids, but stated this would not be covered by warranty, ? -
Renault Clio I Diesel - What should i sell my Renault Clio 54 reg for? 15 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi, we have a Renault Clio 54 reg diesel that has been off road for 8 months now. It did run ok apart from it now blows white smoke out of exhaust. We were going to get this fixed recently however when we went to drive it to the garage we realised the battery had gone dead as we'd left it to long and we haven't got round to doing anything since (i know this is very silly of us). -
Audi A4 B7 (2005 - 2008) - 05 2.0 chain drive to oil pump -snapped day after 1 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Having looked at Car by Car breakdown, this appears to be a known issue for this engine - but it strikes as being far too coincidental for this to snap immediately after the service. The car was running completely fine before the service. The garage have said that the chain snapping is unrelated to the service and just one of those things - what should I say when I collect it tomorrow if the garage try and charge for the remedial work? -
HJ Kia Rio Review 28 Aug 2011 (Forum)
London Congestion Charge exempt. If it gets anywhere near 88.3mpg in real life it will cost you hardly anything to run. 1.1litre 3 cylinder diesel? My god i bet thats going to be absolutely, positively, undoubtably, completely rubbish! Seriously, why bother making it? Poverty-spec model of the most depressing order. -
Almera 1.8 cam chain 5 Aug 2011 (Forum)
My thoughts are that the chain has stretched and the tensioner can't keep up. Looking at the diagrams in a Nissan CD the slack and tensioned sides run very close together near the crank sprocket and they could be touching as the tensioner is failing to hold right tension in the longer chain. This might be my imagination, I dont know if they are actually that close. -
Ford Focus - MOT emmissions 23 Jul 2011 (Forum)
The 2 results were: CO fast idle: 0.20 % volume (limit = 0.20) Natural idle:: CO: 0.28% volume (limit = 0.30) As a comparison, the figures for the MOT the year before were 0.14 and 0.070. The year before that were even lower. Do these results have any significant meaning? The engine runs very well and doesn't smoke except in cold weather it appears to emit a lot of water vapour. Do other factors affect the tests such as engine temperature, condition of the oil etc? But as you can see the values have been getting higher each year. -
Clio 1.2 16V Petrol - Odd whining sound from 2002 Clio 5 Jun 2011 (Forum)
It seems to come on after the car has travelled at over 60/70MPH when I am driving back in a 30 limit. It definitely sounds like its something to do with the wheels or brakes and not the engine running since it only happens when the car is moving. It seems to stop when the brakes are applied so I wonder if it is something to do with the brakes. The car has done 69K and has had a cambelt change (don't know if this would be relevant or not) If someone could help that would be very much appreciated, I'm slightly concerned that it could be the brakes rubbing Thanks in advance! -
Honda Accord automatic - buy 2.0i or 2.4 ?? 2 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Looking on autotrader there are lot sof 2.0i autos, many of which are very reasonably priced, and very few 2.4i s which are correspondingly more much expensive for similar spe/mileage vehicle Does this mean the 2.4s are more desirable as a better drive, or just were more expensive to buy/run so people bought fewer ??? is there anyone who has driven both give me an idea of which is the better vehicle... Looks a big vehicle for a 2.0i and Hondas engines seem to be very lacking in low-down "grunt" - does the 2.0i have what it takes to make apleasureable drive ??? -
Ford Ka - Blown HG or cracked cylinder head? 23 May 2011 (Forum)
Oil is leaking fast, internally i suspect as no external oil leak is viewable or pool collects. When the engine runs it is white smoke at idle which gets worse with revving. Also drips out the exhaust are constant. What I want to know is how likely is it the head gasket that is blown and not the cylinder head, really don't want to get a new cylinder head. -
Jaguar XK8 and XKR (1996 - 2006) - 97 4.0 adding GPS tracker - what connections to 1 18 May 2011 (Forum)
The former will ensure a topped up battery-backup, but may deplete the car's battery. The latter will obviously only charge the tracker when the engine is running. I do have an 'old' tracker fitted to my other car (MX5, connected to permanent +12v) but that plus the alarm will deplete the car's battery within 5 days. However, the MX5's battery is a fairly puny gel type, so it's not surprising. -
£3k budget - low insurance estate cars? 17 May 2011 (Forum)
I'm attracted to the idea of getting another diesel, but not sure I put enough miles in to make it worthwhile - driving is mostly 5 mile weeks doing the supermarket run, with one or two longer motorway trips a month.. All told about 4-5k miles a year max. Living in darkest Peckham, insurance is a problem - cheapest price this year came in at >650 with 3 years NCB on a car I paid 1500 quid for.. -
Mitsubishi Carisma (1995 - 2004) - 03 1.6 How to change a pollen filter ? 11 May 2011 (Forum)
I?ve bought the 2 new filters which ?lock? together, got the glove box off but there?s a bar running across the front of the aircon unit which restricts access. So I assume that I take the filter cover off, remove the old filters, slide the new bottom filter in over the bar and let it drop behind the bar, then slide the top filter in so it locks into the bottom one, and replace the cover. -
peugeot 307 110HDI - loss of turbo with engine management on orange. 5 May 2011 (Forum)

Renault Clio II - 1999 Renault Clio 1.2 Starting Problems 2 May 2011 (Forum)
Just over a month ago the car had its cam-belt changed and the problems started not long after that. The car seems to run very well, with no odd vibrations. Hope you can help, Sean -
VW Polo MK3 - Central Locking VW Polo '99 12 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The fuse for my central locking, radio and cigarette lighter recently blew and upon trying to replace it, the new one also blew. I am guessing that the central locking on my polo is to blame, as it is the only one which is running whilst the ignition is off and the second fuse blew in that state. Also, the central locking has been a bit dodgy ever since i got the car! Basically my plan at the moment is to attempt to disconnect the central locking from the electrics and replace the fuse, so that i can at least know for sure that that is the issue, then i can get round to fixing it. -
peugot 206 CC, maKE 2004 - air polution malfunction message 27 Jan 2011 (Forum)
i just a bit confused what this message means,, after i drive about just 1 mile and 1/2 I stop and bought something then i start the car again, then this message came up with the engine icon ) lights lit up too, and its there while im driving, i did try to stop the engine running and re start again , and the message came up again and so is the red light , so i thought its because maybe the engine is too hot , so i put a little bit of water to the coolant, then the messages and red lights GONE ,, what confused me is,, what really is the problem with it , coz when i put th ewater to the coolant , the water in there is still nearly full ?? -

Looking for the "magic" car! 16 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, I currently own a diesel Citroen Xsara (X reg) which has been very expensive come MOT time, especially when I had to have the belt changed (~£600 - mostly in time as apparently its a very hard to get to and change), so needless to say I'm looking for something new as its approaching the 10,000 mile mark. I'm looking for: Cheap to run Cheap to insure Cheap to repair/mot Decent size boot (as I have two kids - 3yrs & 6months) Reliable (as I have to travel 30miles a day to work + sometimes have to travel 450+ miles a week) Less than £2000 second hand (could go higher if my car is actually worth anything on a trade in) I don't care about performance as I'm not a mad driver I suspect I'm looking for the impossible but if anyone would know it would be you guys/gals :) Thanks for any help.
