  • Hit a wing mirror 2 May 2013 (Forum)
Hi, On the way home today I had to go through this narrow road. There were parked cars on both sides so I had to go between them. I was in 2nd gear so I was doing about 20ish in a 30 zone. As I was driving between the cars, my passenger wing mirror hit a parked cars wing mirror.
  • School Entrance Markings Offences 13 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I often do the school run on my bike with my youngest on a separate crossbar saddle. The school is on a narrow-ish lane with some turning/parking areas at the far end. Most parents don't park or drop off on the yellow school entrance markings. A minority do, and some even reverse their MPV/estates into the school entrance to turn round.
  • Road fund licence 12 Feb 2003 (Forum)
What trouble might she get in to, and how likely is it that she will? As I say, the car is parked well off the road, so someone would have to go looking for it not having a tax disc, but she can ill afford to get a fine or similar over this. Also, will she be able to get a copy of the MOT from the garage that did it, or will she have to have the car tested again?
  • Good buy or leave well alone? 6 Sep 2001 (Forum)
So I phoned to find out more details and get the low down on why the car was being offered at this price. Having one previous owner the car had basically been parked in a car park which flooded in the deluges earlier this year. The water rose to the level of the seats but has now, so I was informed, thoroughly dried out and there is no evidence whatsoever of water damage ever occuring.

  • Audi A4 - Braking problems 25 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Road surface was fine. This time I took it to the local garage and they took the brakes apart and basically rebuilt them on my instruction but couldn’t find an obvious fault. No problems since. 3. About 6 months later, again trying to stop the car this time pulling into a car parking space on quite a steep decline.
  • I'm worried about the full tank of petrol in my stored car during lockdown. Should I drain it? 17 Apr 2020 (Ask HJ)

  • 6 weeks with the Superb 1.4 TSi 150 PS 31 May 2018 (Forum)
But Skoda do put the button in a logical place exactly where the handbrake wuld be unlike Volvo and Toyota who put theirs in places where you would never think to look. Its lovely and quiet and the space is phenominal. Parking requires long spaces, not tried parallel parking it yet. So all in all more than happy. But if anyone posts SPAM in this thread I will find out where you live and come along and eat your children.
  • Bought a pre-reg car, but don't have the logbook 25 Oct 2016 (Ask HJ)
I note in your column in Saturday's Telegraph that you said NOT to buy a car if you did not get the logbook immediately, even if pre-reg. I feel that at...

  • As a manual driver for 52 years, I am struggling to learn to left-foot brake when driving an automatic. 13 Nov 2010 (Ask HJ)
While your advice to use both feet may be perfectly sensible for many drivers, for someone like me, 70 years old, an owner and driver of cars - mostly...
  • Police & Car Crime 7 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I come from southern England and just experienced something that?s really wound me up. About 2 months ago I had my car parked in front of a friend?s car out side my mum and dads house. To give a vague idea, its a long street with speed humps, residents cars parked up both sides with a road that?s on a hill which joins in the middle.

Hello! I was parked stationary on a side kerb yesterday. I started the car as normal and turned the steering wheel to the right to dismount the kerb. I then heard a loud bang/pop from the front drivers side. Checked tyres etc everything seemed to be fine.

  • MK1 Ford Foucus - MK1 Ford Focus Engine Warning Light 14 Aug 2017 (Forum)
On start all lights go out, occasioanly the light will come on and does not go off until the car is parked and restarted. It seems to run fine, and there is no difference engine running wise before its on or - when it comes on. I have read that the light can come on for lots of reasons, the Haynes manual I have bought for this car is singularly useless on this and I have searched the site for any clues...

  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - alarm/immobiliser problem 6 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hello, The alarm/immobiliser on my Renault Clio has decided to declare war on me. Without any provocation at all, the alarm decided to sound today (while the car was parked in the drive). It was driven earlier in the day and was fine. How rude. I couldn't turn the alarm off with either keyfob. I had to disconnect the battery to silence it. Then, after reconnecting the battery, the immobiliser wouldn't deactivate, so now the car won't start... :-( I also noticed a clicking relay noise... a bit like the relay sound that you hear when the indicators are operating, but this was much faster...
  • Vwlkswagen VW Passat 1.8 Turbo - Passat will not start 29 Mar 2010 (Forum)
The main reason I feel this is not linked to the starter motor or switch. Left the vehicle parked outside my house when the fault occured. After an hour or so the car started with no problems and continued to start.   RAC could start the vehicle by towing it . Any suggestions please?
