Low Emission Zone

Outside the remit of cars, but your comments would be appreciated, please. We own a 2001 VW Transporter van, which we use almost weekly to visit our children in Sutton, Surrey, although we live in East Anglia. As from Jan 2012 we cannot do this, unless we spend up to £2,000 on whatever is needed to allow us to enter the M25 zone, or pay a £100 fine per day while inside the LEZ. We are pensioners, the van we have is superb, and we really would find it impossible to purchase a new van, and it will be a struggle to find the wherewithal for the conversion. Would Mr Johnson understand our predicament?
Many thanks

No. Some laws are unfair on some people and always have been. The answer is to stop just outside the LEZ, park the van and get picked up by your children. Sutton is right on the fringe of the LEZ so the distance from outside to Sutton cannot be more than a few miles.
