  • Car Security 17 Jan 2006 (Forum)
A friend recently had their car stolen from their drive in a matter of minutes which led on to a discussion about how secure cars are. Some participants are adamant that there are some modern cars that cannot be driven away without the right set of keys.
  • Police should practice what they preach 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I know plates get dirty at this time of year, but even with the mileages these things do there is no way it would be this dirty after just one shift. Isn't the driver responsible for ensuring the car is road legal before driving it? I would be looking at 3 points for a similar offence.

Hi All, I am becoming the proud owner of an Audi 80 2.0E L reg this weekend. I am looking forward to keeping this car many years as the bodywork is immaculate and it drives well with 106,000 on clock. • How much to replace a speedo? - daihatsu 10 Jan 2006 (Forum)
How much would it cost to replace a broken speedometer on a daihatsu (847cc 1998 R reg)..? Is it against the law to drive without a speedo as I know you cant fail MOT for it? I have also been told that when in fifth gear, if you take your foot off the accelarator it goes back into neutral..??? Thanks folks.
  • Engine Air Intakes 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
A few years ago I wrecked the engine of a Rover diesel, driving it thru stupidly deep water; now I read into todays's DT, of a driver who has ruined the engine of a Picasso in 2 inches of water. Why is this? All cars need air and one doesn't read about petrol engines sucking air thru their intakes so why do diesels have to have low set intakes and what is the alleged advantage?
  • New Merc C-class in 2006? 3 Jan 2006 (Forum)
If so, it would make the old-shape model look dated pretty quickly. That said, I suppose that a new model would drive down prices for the 2-year old model I'd be looking to buy! Thanks, Nick.
  • Need a value - Merc E320CDi 29 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I know all the pitfalls about rarely driven cars, but just for record, does anyone have an idea as to its value both in terms of a private sale and on the dealers forecourt. Thanks -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

  • Clio 1.4 RT - Steering probs - HELP!! 7 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hello I was driving from nottingham to sheffield a couple of nights ago, when I came off the motorway the cars steering became very heave (worse on the right). I have checked the power steering fluid, and all is fine.
  • crossing the channel 30 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Not even december and I'm thinking of summer hols... Almost £500 for a western Channel crossing next summer, so it looks like a drive across to Dover where at the moment its around £75 for a late July return crossing. Q1 - Do these prices rise dramatically as time progresses? Q2 - What's the weekend traffic likely to be like from Calais / Dunkirk down to Dijon or perhaps Lyon.
  • Air bag renewal - Ford 30 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Although technically they will probably not be able to get out of 3rd party liability, this would probably give problems if owner was in passenger seat and wife was driving? -- pmh (was peter)
  • Remember Citroen CX's? 18 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Im considering another GTi Turbo (petrol) and probably need someone to remind me why i shouldnt (or should for that matter. My enduring memories of both my Gti Turbo 1 and Gti Turbo 2 are a comfy, fast and sweet to drive car that gave good service. But i guess they are all getting bit older now.
  • Computer Related Questions - Volume 67 9 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I suspect its Comets own brand as I have not seen it elsewhere. But for £300 base unit 512meg athlon 64 200gig hard drive looked good. http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/567_259314.html {Link added by DD} -- Steve
  • changing your car every 3 months 4 Oct 2005 (Forum)
So, is there a type of insurance (possibly motor trade) that would not be sky high but would cover me for driving different cars that belonged to me over the course of a year?
  • Sidelights 22 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Whats the point of sidelights? I think they should be done away with. Manufacturers shouldn't install them. This morning's drive to work was a bit on the foggy side and approx 75% of cars coming towards me had their sidelights on. I didn't see them until they were about 20 yards away! They are a hazard! The driver with the sidelights on thinks he is safe because he has his lights on, but they are as good as invisible from any sort of distance.
  • If you were spending £3K at auction? 27 Aug 2005 (Forum)
If you had £3K (ok I know it's not a lot) to spend at auction, what you be looking out for? Requirements are pretty general. Something with 4 wheels, at least 4 seats, looks ok, drives well, 0-60 in under 10 seconds so I guess 100-150bhp, sunroof, all mod cons etc. Something that's not too expensive when it comes to parts/repairs.
  • Child allowed in front seat? 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I don't think it's allowed in France, and I'm not sure about the UK any more? I'm going on a long run up to Denmark next week and am thinking of driving overnight; my son will have more space up-front. Thanks!
  • Used Peugeot 407s - any feedback? 26 Jul 2005 (Forum)
And living in France as I do, servicing must surely be cheap and easy to arrange? What's the catch?! Anyone out there own one or drive one? Equivalent Mondeos seem to be a bit pricier, before anyone recommends the Mondeo TDCI...!
  • M25 Advice Please 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Due to the disruption to rail services as a result of the tunnel incident, I now need to drive to a meeting near junction 4 M25 on Wednesday morning. I will be joining the M25 from the M40. Is in better to go clockwise north of London, or go past Heathrow anti clockwise and approach from the south?
  • Do YOU own your car ? 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I can only think that main dealers get away with it because lease companies pay the bills. So, how many of those driving newish cars actually own the car themselves and how many are lease cars ?
