This is 31mpg, do you mainly drive in urban areas?

370 miles to an 11 gal tank eh? Thats about 33 mpg (could even be better,if the tank holds less). Thats not bad MPG for the size of car to be honest.

its all ecu controlled, so unless a fault code shows up suspect colder weather to cause it.but 33mpg is not bad IMO,think its 11.4 gallon tank not sure?

33mpg is not bad IMO,
I agree - sounds about right if it's a mixture of different driving.
Official figures for a yr 2000 Astra are:
Urban:- 28 mpg.
Extra urban:- 47 mpg.
Combined:- 37 mpg.

In the real world however you'll never obtain the official figures.
think its 11.4 gallon tank not sure?
Yep - sure is.

The Astra fuel tank is 52 litres (11.4 galls) but do you, literally run it to empty before filling up?
The low fuel light will come on with 5 litres left in the tank and start flashing when down to 3.
If you stop filling when the pump FIRST cuts off, that's 50 litres in the tank (Vauxhalls data from handbook).
So, if you fill up as soon as the light comes on, but only to the first pump cut-off, you'll only be putting 45 litres into the tank - that'll give 37.4 mpg which is quite respectable!

I have a W (also 2000) Astra.
Bought it in July (haven't change my name yet), and squeezed 420 mls from a full tank until the fuel light started flashing -
this was of course gentle driving while still getting used to the car.
Now i take the revs a little higher, and get approx 370-380 mls on a tank.
This has dropped slightly in the cold weather now, so i dont think you got a problem.
As to whether it can be chipped etc to inprove consumtion or preformance, i dont know... i'll be watching the thread in case someone else does though

Just to add some figures - I have an Astra 2000 1.8 Auto.
Govt figures for this are 24.4, 45.6 and 34.4 so should be about 3 mpg worse than the 1.6 manual.
My tank fills range from 25 mpg to 42 mpg with an average, over 75k, of 31.9. The range is so wide because the mix of town and rural driving varies.
bigtee should get 28 - 45 with an average around 35 so any range between 280 and 450 would be normal, but dependent of the traffic mix.

are you trying to tune the car for better mpg or performance?
