I'm toying with the idea of buying a 2-year old Mercedes C-class in the Spring.
Does anyone know if a new model C-class is due out later this year? If so, it would make the old-shape model look dated pretty quickly. That said, I suppose that a new model would drive down prices for the 2-year old model I'd be looking to buy!

Not 2006 - it's scheduled for intro in 2007, as a 2008 model year car.

There are rumours on some sites that the new C class will be unveiled at the Geneva motorshow in the spring, with an actual launch date of autumn '06. That could mean it does not go on sale until the beginning of '07 in the UK though. I imagine that the estate will follow later.
Can only be good news if you want a used one; alternativley maybe the last of the 'old shape' new ones will be discounted enough to make them attractive to you? There were certainly enough incentives at year-end for those looking for a deal - reports of 18 - 20% of some models!

I think it looks rather heavy and lumpy, particularly at the front. If it looks like that and is built in South Africa, with the alleged quality problems, I don't fancy its chances much!

Mate of mine has just ordered a new C Class Sport this week and the dealer promised him the new one won't be available until mid-2007.

The picture in the link that PU posted is computer generated. There have been quite a lot kicking around for the next C Class, including this one tinyurl.com/95c54 which although very similar looks a whole lot better.
