Volvo v50 - Volvo v50 - master cylinder failure? ££? 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Any thoughts on repair costs weighed up against the cars value - its in OK condition, typically i had it valeted last week. It needs to be ultra reliable as its used to run a small business where not turning up is not an option. Do you think it will be worth repairing? Its going to my excellent independent on monday by tow truck - so he'll be able to tell - just canvassing opinion before that. -

Chevrolet Matiz - Unlit Speed Limit Signs 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I was slowing because I was entering the built up area but obviously I now realise that I had over-run the point at which the 30 limit started. When returning through the town - in the opposite direction I noticed that the 30 limit signs were lit and easy to see so I slowed down then double checked as to why I had missed the 30 limit signs the first time. -
BMW 3 Series E46 - engine overheat 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
background on car. driving along engine overheated. found aux belts come off and wrapped around viscous fan. tensioner pulley had broken. replaced tensioner and belts with new parts as old ones broken/damaged. topped up coolant, and bled system, run engine, heat through heating, then no heat and then engine overheat. had codes read, came up with coolant temperature sensor issue, replaced sensor assy and thermostat as comes as one unit. top up + bleed cooling system - still overheating. strip down cooling system, checked water pump, oil cooler, flushed radiator and heater matrix, flushed coolant hoses - no issues found, refit all parts, refill cooling system, guess what - still overheats. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - mpg- your opinions please 17 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I would like your opinions on whether the mpg for the engine seems ok. I have used the brim the tank method, run for a while and fill her up- so i the figures are as accurate as possible. 1) 82 miles all around town, mainly short journeys 2-3 miles at a time, max 5 miles in one go. So lots of cold starts, but i only got 27 mpg (refill 13.9 litres @ 93ppl). 2) Just done 87 miles all motorway -Leicester to Solihull and back pretty much at indicated 80mph. got 53mpg (Refilled 7.5litres at 92ppl). -
Ford Mondeo - Mondeo 04 2.0 TDCi clutch problems? 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I've heard the Dual Mass Flywheel is lucky to last that long, so if it was on the way out, I'll look at replacing it with a solid flywheel kit as I intend to run this baby into the ground! Any advice would be much appreciated thanks! -
All - Winter/Helping to avoid a flat battery 21 Dec 2010 (Forum)
My commute is relatively short at 3miles each way and I am usually doing 30ish mph. I always try to give the car a decent run once a month at this time of year to help the battery have a good charge but I was wondering if I travelled in 4th gear rather than 6th this would assist the alternator to keep the battery charged (Greater engine speed). -
2008 Titanium X 2.0 Petrol - Trip Computer 10 Dec 2010 (Forum)
My question concerns the trip computer that seems (in comparison with my previous Mazda 6), extremely sensitive. After a longish run of about 100 miles of varied driving with the computer set at anything but "Average consumption", I switch to this reading. This reading begins to react immediately to consumption variation as though it were set to "Consumption now" (Althought not quite as sensitive). -
Audi A4 Avant - New car A4 Avant or 3 series touring - diesels 1 Dec 2010 (Forum)
To my mind the pros and cons are that the BMW is perhaps a slightly better drive, but the downside is those stupid run-flat tyres and a more cramped interior. The Audi will also remain a newer model for longer, but is £2K more. Opinions please...and no saying buy Japanese please ! -
different engine to dealership ad and order form! 22 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Query this with dealership who confirm it is the pre update engine! Where do i stand on this? I now have a car that will cost a lot more to run than I expected of the next few years. Has anyone ever come across a similar situation and tell me how it was/should be resolved? -
N/A - Council Garage Rents 20 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Over a decade ago I was capable of climbing out the front window “Dukes of Hazzard” style but sadly no longer. So it houses a non-running motorcycle, pedal bike, lawn mower and assorted paraphernalia. What infuriates me is that being classified as a homeowner I have to pay VAT on the rent whereas council tenants in the next road do not. -
Mondeo Passat - Passat Vs Mondeo ? 19 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I have had a 20V 1.8 Passat for the last 11 years which has given me pretty trouble free motoring at virtually no cost (I do all my own servicing) but it now needs more money spending on it than is worth spending. My questions are then this. Which is going to be the most reliable and cheapest to run in the long term: New shape Passat Tdi (around 06) Mondeo Mk3 TDCi (05-06 era) New Shape Mondeo Tdci140 (07) Originally I was looking to spend around £4k on the Mondeo but am now thinking it might be going to around £6k which will buy me either of the other 2 (at around trade price) Real life experience answers would be good -
2003 Ciroen Belingo 2L HDI - Diesel glow plug light and pre heat 14 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I have fitted a new pre heat relay box and Citroen have fitted a new temperature sensor, but the light and glow plugs will not pre heat. The glow plugs work ok on post heat with the engine running. Citroen are now telling me that the light and the pre heat function should not operate untill the temperature is -15. I would be very greatful for some advise regarding this, thanks. -
Peugeot 307 HDi 90hp (2001) - 307 Fuel Tank 21 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hello all, Been told that I could do with a new fuel tank in the long run due to warping (long story), I got a couple of questions: 1) I have a 2001 HDi 90 (Engine RHY or DW10TD) with a Siemens injection system, with the exception of tanks without the additive system (my car doesn't have a particulate sensor) , is the tank specific to that model or do other models use the same tank? -
Peugeot 406 HDI 2.0 Y reg - Anti-pollution Fault! 8 Oct 2010 (Forum)
For some reason, everytime I start the engine, this Antipollution fault comes at the display for a few seconds and then vanishes off. And the check engine lights lit as well through out the whole drive. Car runs fine though. I have not had any problems with it so far. Recently got the engine serviced. Told my mechanic about it he says he has no clue whatsoever! I read all the posts related to this but couldn't conclude anything. -
1998 ford windstar - ab brakes 2 Oct 2010 (Forum)
My question is, does anyone know of a way to 'glue' the refuctor ring to the drive shaft without replaceing the shaft?? The auto is in excellent condition and runs and looks like a new one and the brake system is all new. -
Ford Fiesta - 1997 Fiesta 1.3 Endura E pushrod 30 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Can anybody tell me the cause of this and how long it may last in this conditon?! It seems to be running ok now but hesitates at higher revs. Also intermitant heat from the vents??? Anyone want to buy it??? lol -
Test driving a private car - just passed 20 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Besides driving without the insurance on a crowded public road - the thought of getting done for it and having points etc, makes me run a mile from it, but how can you get a feel for driving the car if you can't drive it? So, are there any ways around it or does anyone have any 'creative' solutions? Cheers. -
Renault Clio II - Advice - to buy or not to buy 25 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The garage is a well known name franchised dealership (not renault though) and they've had it a while now and have reduced it a few hundred quid. I'm not mechanically minded but it runs well, will come with a warranty, HPI clear etc. Best I've seen so far. So, would you be concerned? -
Skoda Octavia - Variable Servicing / Oil change 6 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Q: Would it be wise to do a National Tyres Castrol Edge oil change now (£31.50 and 507.00 spec) or would it void my Approved Used Skoda warranty? Or is it really fine to run two years on the same oil. I'm sure I'd be looking at £100-ish for a main dealer oil change. Thanks
