Small school runner - recommendations? 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
My wife's Meagane Scenic 1.6 RT Alize has reached 72,000 miles since we purchased new Aug 98 (S reg). Its just had its cambelt change and new discs/pads. It has FSH and has been properly valeted to eradicate the biscuit dust of 3 children. Just a few scuffs may drop the p/ex by perhaps £600. My wife wants something smaller (Fiesta?) -

Space Saver Spare v. Tyre Weld. 29 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I view the prospect of having to use the Omega?s space saver spare with some trepidation, and with horror if caught out whilst towing. (we do a fair bit of long distance continental towing). I seem to remember hearing that some new cars don?t bother with a spare at all ? -
Skoda Felicia Engine Questions 17 Nov 2002 (Forum)
The 1.6 and 1.9 D are all well proven VW units. What of the 1.3? I know some of them are Skoda-built, but are any of the later 1.3's built by VW? If so, how can you tell? Is there anything to be worried about about a 1.3 Skoda unit anyway? - I've heard they can suffer from head gasket problems. Thanks in advance -
Overpriced Servicing 25 Oct 2002 (Forum)
What is the best course of escalation for over priced servicing. A colleague has recently had a Vauxhall Dealer service on a s-reg astra, and was quoted £2700 for a basic servive, MOT, plus extras such as clutch-adjust, replace headlamp etc. Once the big extras were removed from the scope of the work(clutch, headlamp) the bill was still £900 (400parts/500 labour) including such things as £35 for 'investigating' a poor quality radio (conclusion - upgrade it!) -
306 "Rattle" 5 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Hey all, More problems with my 306 DTurbo again!! There seems to be a rattle coming from the O/S front wheel area. It only happens when I dont have my foot on the throttle, eg slowing down or slowly cornering. I recently changed the driveshaft on that side because it had a lot of play in it and I thought that would be the source of the problem. -

Rover 75 CDT problem 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The noise is much stronger when the car is cold; I replace the right shock-absorber, but nothing has changed. The retailer told me that all the 75's has the same problem, and soon will be a recall in order to solve it. Is that true? Do English 75 owners has this problem? Should I be patient and wait for a recall or what else can I do? Please, help me, I'm in deep trouble!!!! -
WS Manual VW Polo 28 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I seem to recall that there used to be a Magazine dealing solely with V.W's where perhaps publications similar and almost identical to a WSM 's could be obtained at a much reduced cost and on par with that advertised in LandRover Magazine.(Disco - £47). Can anybody advise please? DVD -

Shell Optimax: Another Perspective 4 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I remember the earliar Shell product fom the 1980's. Believe they marketed it as Shell with ICA - Ignition control additive. Lateral thinking suggests that Shell Optimax is a product evolved from ICA but without its downside. However Shell with its world class labs and years of expertise, got it wrong the first time. -
Xantia 1.9 TD : Engine boom / power reduction 30 Nov 2001 (Forum)
My Xantia Estate 1.9TD seems to be suffering from an engine boom (noise) at over 2500rpm, certainly more noticeable and gets louder through higher revs. It?s just the same engine noise as usual, but a bit louder. (Doesn?t sound like a leaky exhaust or similar, though it may be from the manifold??) The power seems to be very slightly down too, but that may be my down to my imagination. -
Winter driving and tyre pressures 20 Nov 2001 (Forum)
The logic behind this is from 4X4 drivers who reduce tyre pressure when driving in sandy/muddy/snowy conditions to increase the tyre?s contact area and therefore grip. They reduce tyre pressures by up to 75%, this is obviously a bit drastic and also extremely dangerous on normal roads and speeds. Is my logic off the mark here and is it that it's completely unintuitive and that increased tyre pressures are actually better ? -
Pre-War Special. 17 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I saw a 1936/37 Riley Kestrel with a sexy Yellow fishtail sports body on Sunday. Engine Chasis and running gear were original. Body was a home made aluminium affair from the 1990's. THe body was not at all original. I'm assuming that, despite it's looks, this car will be cheap 'cos no collector would want a car with a recent body. So here's my point. I have a 5k budget allocated to buying a Caterham/Westfield at some point. -
Free Scrap 18 Sep 2001 (Forum)
My apologies for posting this, but I have a 'T' plate BMW 728. Last of the straight 6's without fuel injection. It has been standing for 18 months, but still starts, drives and stops. I need to get rid of it before Friday night. If someone wants to give me money for it that would be nice, but if it can go to a good home where its bits would help someone else, thats O.K. -
New Tyres 15 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Hi I am having two new tyres fitted this afternoon (R reg. Mondeo) front and rear passenger side. I don't know why these have worn more than the driver?s side, but they are only just legal. As I am driving to Sunny Wales on Saturday, I wanted to get them done. Could it be the tracking which is causing uneven wear and should I get the tracking checked when I get the tyres fitted? -
