96 ford mondeo vibration 5 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I own a 95 Ford Mondeo 1.8lx with 105k on the clock. i have recently been experiencing an intermittent but harsh vibration at speeds of anywhere over 50mph which are only present under load. as soon as i lift off the throttle it disappears. it is intermittent and can run for several miles on the motorway with no sign of the problem but then it gradually reappears. there is no loss of power - only an increase in the vibration when i apply the accelerator. the problem is not evident at lower speeds and happens at high revs 3rd gear, 4th and 5th gears - presumably because i get to a high enough speed? -
Peugeot 406 warning light 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Last week you helped me out with a warning light problem on my 406. These things seem to run in 3's and true form no sooner had I sorted them than another light as appeared On the way home from work, I'm assuming that it is the engine management light (shape of an engine right in the middle of the display) came on and stayed on. -
Inaccurate speedometers 25 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Sorry If I'm being a bit thick on this but I've often wondered about this when on the 'boring' uni runs! (sad I know) -
Jag XJ 1991 - Wheel Tracking/Vibration? 9 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hello I have an old XJ which has been running OK but a few days ago I had to swerve and mount a pavement to miss a child with their new christmas bike. I drove away and parked about 50m up the road as I was going to the and all was well. Yesterday I drove about 30 miles but it was in three bursts of about 10 miles. -
Military Road 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Don't normally like to give away the secrets that make life in the North East so much better than in the South but I've recently had to drive from Sunderland to Carlisle and back a lot and have discovered the joys of the old military road along Hadrian's Wall. This runs parallel to the A69 and is mostly dead straight with some "big dipper" style dips and some fun bends which are mainly covered in mud at this time of the year to add to the excitement. Very little traffic, no speed cameras and the traffic police are much more interested in the the A69 (in fact my bro, who is in the know, tells me they now only have 2 "jam sandwiches" and their unmarked car has been taken off them). -
Parking penalty ticket 29 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Guys I received a penalty ticket on last Saturday after my pay and display run out on my car. My pay & display ticket expired at 11:47am while I was back to move my car at 11:55am but the traffic warden was putting a ticket on which she issued at 11:54am. I said to her its really harsh and she should had waited for at least 10 minutes but I see no point of arguing with them because they never listen. -

SAAB 9-5 Gearbox oil change 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
My 122,000 mile 9-5 is still running as well as ever, and I try to ensure this is so by regular servicing and care. My dealer is very reluctant to change the gearbox oil though. I thought it was a good idea, as the gear changing is a bit stiffer than my Volvo s80, and I imagined it would prolong the life of the box. -
Sidelights ok, full-beam ok, but no dip! 8 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Hi - I have a 98 VW Passat and have yesterday run into a problem with the headlights. I have no dipped-beam at all. The sidelights are ok, full-beam is ok, but when dipped-beam is selected, it just displays the sidelights. Not much use in these dark-nights! -
New Scientist on in-car warning systems 4 Nov 2006 (Forum)
It makes the sensible point that manufacturer installed systems when added to with high street systems run a special risk of conflicting or simultaneous alerts croping up with different voice commands and styles of info which add to the confusion. Couldn't agree more personally - I think it's my job to be aware of what's going around me and take the appropriate actions. -
HPI History Ect 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Also while I'm seeking advise this particular car has had its reg no. changed, the new plates on the vehicle were provided by a HONDA dealer, and a quick search on DVLA confirms that the old '51 plate is now running round on a 2006 Honda, and that the new '51 plate is on the vehicle I'm buying. The numbers on car all match, windscreen, boot, engine bay, theres DVLA docs confirming the change. Just a quick a quick q to the more experienced forum members ..............does it all sound ok or is there anything else I should be doing? -
secondhand vans 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Main considerations are £2000 or considerably less, cheap & easy to maintain, good fuel economy especially on small hilly country roads, but also having the ability for a bit of speed on motorway runs. Cosmetic condition of no importance but essential that it has been rigorously maintained and that the model has a reputation for a long and trouble free life. Although the van needs to be bought in the U.K. -
A diesel for 6 grand 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Apart from the fact that spending so little on such precise and delicate technology is doomed to fail, does anyone have any advice? Like I say - the Vectra's still in the running, as would any other decent diesel. Much as I've tried to dissuade him from it, he's adamant that a diesel is economical no matter how many miles you do and there's no changing that opinion. Any help, suggestions or advice would be appreciated, Adam -
How much forward gear whine is normal? 13 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Is this a normal characteristic of a small engined 3 cylinder car, or is it the sign of a faulty 'box? The car will be serviced soon, so I think I will raise it with the dealership as the warranty runs out in March. Very occasionally 1st gear is difficult to select. Also, when pulling out to the right, a clicking/ scarping noise can be heard. This happened before and a driveshaft was replaced under warranty. -
Trafic/Primastar/Vivaro owners - READ! 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
It was pointed out to me that the black plastic around the light cluster and the areas above - ie running up to the roof at the back, were showing white streaks - due to an issue with the moulding process or material. It was also pointed out that I should raise this with them and ask them to replace these plastic panels under warranty. -
96 VW Golf 1.9D starting problem 22 Sep 2006 (Forum)
After starting it a few times and reving above 2K for about 30 seconds it begins to behave as normal and has no problems. Once warm it starts fine and never gives any bother and runs fine all day long. The problem is always when starting, after the car has been parked for 12+ hours or so. I had the glow-plugs changed yesterday but it is still giving the same problem. The only other thing that I have not changed for a while is the fuel filter. -
Ford Stereo connection size change 16 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Sony, which will utilise the steering stalk control, but no adapter is available to convert the plug down in size to use what I can only assume is an earlier type Ford stereo? Anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions really appreciated!! -
Almera, Corolla or Astra automatic? 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I'm searching for a car to suit a mature relative. Previous car was a 2.0 Mondeo petrol auto, reliable and 40 mpg on a run, but 26 mpg in the Yorkshire Dales, 95% of the mileage was in the Dales. So, I'm searching for a reliable 5 door hatch, auto, aircon, OK on hills, priced at about £3 000. CVTs to be avoided at all costs, likewise small Ford autos. 1.6 Corolla or 1.5 Almera seems ideal, but they sell quickly. -
Driving other cars 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
My insurance allows me to drive cars not owned by me albeit at third party only. My son's insurance has run out but the car has road tax and a mot certificate. Am I allowed to drive it? I seem to get the impression from 'others' that as the OWNER does not currently have insurance cover on the car, it cannot be driven on the public roads. -
Green Police ! 1 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Previously the Metropolitan Police tried electric and liquid propane vehicles, but stopped due to impracticality and reduction in funding; however, the force plans to run four of 70 hydrogen-powered vehicles that will be introduced by the Greater London Authority. As well, the Toyota Lexus RX400h hybrid SUV is currently undergoing trials in the U.K. for full police duty, including patrol and emergency response.
