    ’ The £2000 Government Scrappage Allowance towards a new car or commercial is offered on condition that the traded-in vehicle has been registered on or before August 31, 1999, and has been registered in the name of the new car buyer for at least one year. The registration document must also show the current name and address of the new car buyer.

And the reserve was all wrong for a 1,500 mile 2001/51 reg FIAT Seicento 1.1S, apparently ‘sold’ for £5,050, which is £100 more than FIAT is advertising new ones for. But the tide seems to be turning.

    With engine and chassis numbers matching logbook records and an extensive history file including homologation papers, heritage certificate, 2004 FIA Historic Technical Passport and MoT certificates, car is estimated to sell for between £43,000 and £50,000. Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said, ‘This is a rare and very collectible car.’ He added, ‘This represents the rarest Cooper S of all time - so an original car like this with matching numbers throughout is extraordinary.’ The Mini is said to be in excellent condition, having completed 3000 miles under its current ownership during the past 15 years.
