Stunning Mk1 Mondeo for sale at £1500 25 May 2015 (News)
Launched in Europe in 1992, the first generation Mondeo replaced the Sierra. Like it’s predecessor, it dominated the company car market. But despite being a hugely capable classic, it has failed to make the jump to classic status. With early models now 23 years old, we think it’s high time people started appreciating this car for what it was – a well specified, hugely capable family car. -

A Grand Monday: Citroen Visa Leader 14 Apr 2014 (News)
Apart from small amounts of superficial surface rust under the bonnet, there is no rust anywhere on this car. There are a few tiny blemishes on the paintwork but overall it is well above average for what is nearly a 30-year-old car. Of course, stating that any car of this age is rot-free is always a gamble. -

Someone actually paid £475 for a worn out 102,000 mile 88F Nissan Micra 1.0 5-door. Crazy when, just a few cars before it, an 80,000 mile 88F MG Metro sold for just £125. Budget Car Tax Trap hits less wealthy car drivers hardest 22 Mar 2008 (News)
That’s according to CAP, the UK automotive industry’s provider of benchmark used car values and technical data. Hardest hit of all will be drivers of the automatic variants of larger-engine cars up to seven years old who will be hit by a double whammy of huge increases in Vehicle Excise Duty and more rapid depreciation which could severely affect values. -
Hidden Heroes: Rover 45 2003 Model Year 20 Dec 2019 (News)
Whisper it, but it was quite the driver’s car, with pin-sharp handling and a superb gearshift. If you don’t believe us, try and have a go in one as you’ll be amazed. Those chassis and gearbox improvements continued until the end of MG Rover, but in 2004 the 45 was given a ‘facelift’ akin to dragging a pig backwards through a lipstick factory, and no matter how good those last cars are, they’re hard to love. -
The MoT Files: When does a car become a classic? 27 Feb 2019 (News)
The first model with more than 1000 tests under its belt is the Porsche 911 (72.5% pass rate) Of course, cars that more than 40 years old are no longer required to have an MoT test - although as our data shows there are still plenty of conscientious classic owners getting a professional to check their car is still roadworthy. -
Report: Historics classic car auction, Brooklands, 1 June 4 Jun 2013 (News)
Historics’ June sale at the Brooklands Museum attracted competitive bidding, especially on the classic sports cars as buyers were spurred on by what appeared to be the beginnings of the English summer. It turned in some great figures, too, with 72% of 110 cars sold for a total of £1.58m. The strong interest in sports cars was typified by the 1961 Lenham-Healey Six. -
Mileage and Status Separate Best Auction Prices From the Rest. 26 Oct 2011 (News)
Audis still seem to command a considerable premium for status. So £11,600 paid for a 49k mile 3 year old is to be expected. But £16,900 for a 41k mile 3 year old A4 B8 2.0FSI quattro wasn’t. It obviously had to be an order from someone wanting to prepare for winter. So, lucky for them the car needed a new set of tyres. -
Bang on Book at Auction Today 3 May 2002 (News)
But the bidding started at £4,500 and soon shot past my £5k limit, with someone's £5,350 securing the car. No profit in that one, then. I thought the old E36 318Ti Compacts would be slipping a bit by now. So I thought six, maybe six-five for a metallic blue 99T with 38,000 miles, no alloys and a few scratches. -

Spotted in the classifieds: First cars below £1000 23 Nov 2011 (News)
Its weakest point is its susceptibility to problems caused by dirty oil, so a good service history will most likely point to a reliable car. The only other weak point is the throttle body, which can get dirty if the car is never warmed up, so be wary of extremely low mileage models. Besides that the Micra is a fairly sensible first car choice, but as with all cheap used cars, look out for rust, wear and tear and damage. £1000 will get you 70,000 mile, 2002 model with a reasonable trim level, tax and MOT. -

A Grand Monday: BMW 316i Touring 1 Dec 2014 (News)
There’s plenty to like about this example – no rust, long MoT, clean inside and out. Best of all it comes with plenty of paperwork, including all its old MoTs. With 127k on the clock, we’d want to be sure that the engine has been well looked after with regular service intervals. That 1.6-litre produces 102bhp and unlike many other BMWs, uses a traditional cambelt. -
New insurance saving tech from TomTom 8 Feb 2012 (News)
The new ‘Fair Pay Insurance’ system rewards good driving with lower premiums. Unlike the Young Marmalade scheme, it is aimed at all drivers, young and old, and, rather than basing the price of insurance on gender, age or postcode the system uses technology, in the form of a special TomTom PRO 3100 sat nav unit, to measure your driving, picking up on things like hard braking, excessive speed and cornering too quickly. -

Hidden Heroes: Ford Escort RS2000 16v 7 Jun 2019 (News)
It felt quite special from the cabin, too, with chunky Recaro sports seats and white dials hinting at the fact this was much more than just a normal Escort. Yet from the outside, the RS2000 wasn’t as brash or in-yer-face as fast Fords of old. At the time of its launch, Britain was in the middle of a car crime epidemic, and hot Escorts and Astras were the nation’s most commonly stolen cars thanks to a combination of decent handling and performance coupled to rudimentary security. The RS2000 hid its light under a bushel.
