  • Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible (2000 - 2004) - 02 2.2 Misfiring 4 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I tried to start the car, the car turned over and started but then cut out. I tried again and again but still the same thing was happeneing. The car was low on fuel though. I pushed the car off the slight incline it was on the the car started. There was a slight knocking when the car was turning over. When the car started, it was knocking slightly but was running on 3 cylinders and really flat.

  • Peugeot 309 (1986 - 1993) - 89 1.9 losing water/coolant 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Bought my car(diesel) just over a year ago - have done 200 thousand miles last year (total mileage now about 180), changed exhaust, alternator, fuel pump, just passed my MOT & paid new tax. Only issues I've really had are stupidly put in petrol late one night & drove it all the way home - got it cleaned out but since then it hasn't burnt fuel as well, and water leaking into boot (advice on this forum was bang on).
  • Toyota Camry (2002 - 2006) - 03 .65 A number of questions? 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Where can I get a good outdoor gauge from - I've only seen interior ones for cars online? Q6. Where can I buy a code reader for my car at a reasonable price? Q7. How can fuel be siphoned out of a car fuel tank safely and without causing air bubles in the system. Sorry I have so many questions. I look forward to your input into this: very much appreciated. • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 2001 1.8VVTi Co2 emission fail 16 Aug 2009 (Forum)
This is my dads car so not aware of the full details, basically car failed mot due to tester refusing to continue because of blue smoke and emissions being well above limit anyway. Car has been with a Toyota main dealer for a week and they are stumped. Fuel filter has been changed and improved emissions but still over the limit. Exhaust and Cat have been swapped temporarily and not fixed the problem. Injectors have been checked and are ok. the actual fuel has been checked - I think.

  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 92 1.9 Leak around injector pump throttle shaft 10 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I can only assume that the problem was caused by the Haynes manual instruction to turn the engine over twice by hand, as the fuel cutoff valve would not be open and there could be pressure buildup in the low pressure side of the pump. Still don't understand how running the engine for 30 minutes made it all OK. However I now believe that magic is an acceptable engineering approach!
  • Fusion feud 16 May 2009 (Ask HJ)

  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 03 2.0HDi - refuses to start. 5 May 2009 (Forum)

  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 (1985 - 2000) - 91 2.0 irratic idle 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Sometimes she drives ok but always idles really roughly. I have changed the dizzy cap and rota arm and was told the previous owner had the fuel distributer and fuel filter changed all to no avail. I have also tried a new idle control valve again to no avail. I have since re fitted the original valve but was wondering which way round it went??
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 TDCI 130 GHIA X cut out in traffic / batter 9 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hope this post will be of use to someone - car just stopped in traffic in outside lane. breakdown assistance could not jump start. Suggested fuel pump problem. Recovered on lorry home a few hours later. Get my mechanic friend over next Morning and get battery charged and guess what car starts first time. We now think that maybe we left the lights on etc which would explain why the battery got drained as had checked altenator and was ok.

  • Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 99 1.2 electric problem with dashboard 14 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Appologies for my ignorance regarding cars and engines :) Ever since weve been having colder nights ive been going to start the car in the morning and as the ignition is turned (be it starting the engine or not) both the fuel gage and engine temp gage etc will rise to indicate a level of measurement and then suddenly they will fall to zero and then rise again. As in, the needle on the fuel gage will shoot to the top then the lights will go out on the dasboard, the needle will fall to the bottom, and then come back and rise to full etc seconds later.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 01 2.2 hdi shuts down and problems starting 18 Oct 2008 (Forum)

  • SEAT Toledo III (2005 - ) - 07 2.0D Economy is poor. 2 Sep 2008 (Forum)
At the weekend, he did a motorway section on cruise at 70mph, and the vehicle was averaging only 37mpg at that speed, by the time he had covered a few more off motorway miles and got to his destination, he had just managed to get the average up to 40. He has checked the fuel computer and is convinced its accurate, i assume by brimming and comparing. Seat have had the car back and can find nothing wrong, but they do say that a customer who bought the sister vehicle to my friends is complaining of his fuel consumption too.
  • Jaguar XJ8 and XJR8 (1997 - 2003) - 99 3.2 Odd emissions problem 7 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Upstream HO2Ss are working OK - output checked and then substituted with known good ones. MAF checked - not sure exactly how, but told it was OK. Fuel rail pressure checked. TPS checked. Car isn't burning oil and fuel trim levels OK but were reset just in case. The output from the downstream HO2Ss appears to be OK but they're going to try substituting with new units tomorrow.
