Only took 3 days 3 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Only 3 days into 2006 & seen my 1st 2 candidates for muppet of the year. Driving my truck on the M6 this morning (4am) at the M6/A442/M6 toll junction I noticed a fellow in a Rover 25 reverse from the chevrons back across the slip road onto the hard shoulder. No2 muppet was the guy only 2 mins later driving from the unlit to lit section in the same area with no lights on with all n sundry flashing him but he carried on regardless. -

Mk5 Fiesta - Noisy thrust race / gearbox 6 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I know a noisy thrust race is common on Fiestas and his car has this quite bad but a similar noise can be heard whilst driving through the gears, is it the thrust or worse?. If the gear lever is moved back or forward whilst driving in gear the noise gets even worse - it's like a high pitched buzz. Any ideas or knowledge out there. thanks, nivek9876 -
Ideas for first car? 1 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Am about to start learning to drive and realise that it would probably be a good idea to get a car seeing as my parents only own automatics. What is a good car to get for around 2 - 3k? Wouldn't want it to be particularly old because I will probably drive to school (30 miles there and back) and around quite a lot so I want something reliable and solid. -
Cat damage 29 Oct 2005 (Forum)
The car began running badly and was driven gently back to base - approx 1 mile. At which point it was revved very hard by a '3rd party'to try to drive it onto a ramp. Black smoke ensued at that point. The problem turned out to be HT leads, causing poor ignition. Is it likely that the cat damage occued as a result of the drive home or the high revving - which would have put far more unburnt fuel into the exaust and cat?? -
VW Passat Electrical problem 9 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I now have no dash lights at all and it makes driving at night difficult as I can't see how fast I am going. Thanks -

Trailer breaks free!! 27 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Today a funny thing happened. Whilst reversing Land Rover and trailer into the drive, the trailer detached itself and parked itself in the drive! No damage or injury fortunately but I want to get to the bottom of this. I thought that with these modern ball hitch arrangement this couldn't happen. -

Cheapest Place for A4 Cabriolet? 9 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Right, after finally finding the threads concerning Micronet Showroom, I think I'll steer clear of them for now. I'm after a new A4 Cabriolet 1.8T. The cheapest place I've found is £23206 from Drive the deal. I've only found one review of Drive the deal - which was positive about the service, but wondered if anyone else had used them? Also if anyone can suggest a better price, I'd be interested. -
Volvo S80 belt 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
On the 2.9 engine the crankshaft pulley that drives the alternator belt appears to be held on by 4 bolts/screws. If I hold the crankshaft using the centre nut and undo the 4 screws should the pulley come off easily?I have not much room and none for a puller. -
Audi A3 Tdi Not Starting, Elec Fault? 1 Dec 2004 (Forum)
A couple of times this week the spedo/rev counter and other dash instruments have not been working but after about 10 mins driving they have come on. Thursday driving to work they did not come on at all and when I came to go home car would not start(tries for a second then stops). All other electrics lights, climate control etc are all ok. -
Kia Picanto - do you have one? 11 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I'm considering buying one of these (with the 1.1 engine). We've had a decent test drive and we're very impressed. As the car will be shared with SWMBO I'll be using it every now and again for a 125 mile each way run that is mainly motorways and dual carriageways. I'd appreciate real life feedback anyone can give me on their experiences particularly on fuel economy, how it drives on long runs, does it keep up at motorway speeds, comfort and if you've had any problems (hopefully not). -
Pavement Crossovers 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Hi Has the law changed on access to and from your drive in the past 18 months or so?? I'm certain that before that time - you had the right not to blocked in your drive if you had a legal crossover, but now you can't be blocked out! One other query, I had my crossover extended from 9'' to 14' when we moved to the present home - people at times block part of it - makes it difficult, at times impossible to turn the way I want to - where do i stand on this in legal terms? -
auto gearbox "best practice techniques" 6 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi All I am about to get a Corolla 1.6 auto and, never having owned an auto before would like to know if there are any driving tecniques I should adopt (apart from laft foot braking, which I am unsure about!)? For example: When should one use the 1 and 2 gears manually? Should one take it out of drive at every oppertunity? -
Imobilisers - Can the common car thief.. 29 May 2004 (Forum)
Hello, today i saw an Audi TT (nearly new conv) park near our home and then pick up a thug from half way up the road and drive away. The idiot driving was/appeared to be about 18? Since around 1998 it has been mandatory to fit immobilisers in all new cars sold in the uk. Can these be easily be driven away without the real car keys?? -
Buses and Coffee Cups 25 Feb 2004 (Forum)
All this was done with a coffee cup in one hand. He put down the cup whilst taking the fares, and then picked it up to drive away, taking several ?swigs? the while. It was a masterly performance. -
BR Shocker! Discovery passes MOT!! 21 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Apparently the emmissions were unbelievably low, and the mechanic who took it to the MOT test station and the tester both commented that it was in extremely good condition or its age. This was quite lucky really as I was driving it up until Sunday when I realised that the MOT was a week overdue! Woops! Well we're back on the road now in 4 wheel drive and I am one happy chappy. H -
