2003 combo 1.7di - Corsa combo power loss 13 Jul 2013 (Forum)
important; color: #009900; font-size: 100%; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: underline !important; background-color: transparent;">fuel pump showed no issues. The mechanic knew very little about diesels so I didn't leave the van with him as he looked stumped. Before I take it into a garage can anyone arm me with likely causes so I don't get ripped off with un-necessary work. -
Ford C-MAX 1600 TDCi - Ford 1600 TDCi diesel performance issue 6 Apr 2013 (Forum)
It does this with an overboost, which increases peak torque from 270 Nm to 285 Nm for up to 15 seconds"" It smacks to me of being a fuel supply issue / software issue. Its not a blocked DPF cat or mass airflow meter. Needless to say the main dealers are not very interested or seemingly knowledgeable. -
bmw 530d se - dealer wont pay 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
we bought the car (2004 5 series) on the 15th sept 2012 from a local dealer for £7500. it had aprox 85500 miles on it with full service history. the dealer gave us a 3 month warranty. during the warranty period the fuel pump failed and was replaced under warranty. eleven days after warranty ended, the turbo, starter motor AND alternator all failed!! because of my ignorence of the law/rights, i took the car to an independent garage to carry out the repairs. while repairs were on going,i told the dealer what had happened. he was amazed, and said he was truly sorry. he said that i should have taken out the extended warranty. but he never offered to pay or help with repairs, can i point out that i never asked him to though as i belived that it was my problem. -
Vauxhall Zafira 2.0DTI 1999 - Intermitent Engine Management Light Issues! 28 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I've replaced the MAF sensor I've removed all of the turbo inlet and outlet pipes checked for splits or cracks (none) and cleaned them. I've replaced the fuel filter, The glow plugs for good measure, Leak off pipes, Oil level was a little high so reduced the level to correct.. I now have a car that starts ok'ish but this engine management light is still coming on the same situation (midrange revs)! -
VAUXHALL SIGNUM 2.0 DIESEL 2004 - SIGNUM ELITE POWER LOSS 4 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Hi everyone. Ever since a cowboy 'mechanic' on a mobile van rescued my SIGNUM DIESEL after a wrong fuel incident, the TURBO has been giving me problems and the car has had considerably less power, and most especially a sudden loss after i rev the engive over 2500 revs at any given gear. Subsequently, the cruise speed fails to engage. -
Lincoln - Town Car update 5 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Since buying this car I've added an OEM set of floormats in a matching, tasteful shade of taupe, and a matching dash cover. (This Town Car is burgundy, with a tan vinyl roof and taupe interior.) Fuel consumption: 23 city/26 highway in Imperial gallons. Acceleration: sedate and civilised. Can reach 60 mph, at least. My only possible complaint is the donut spare tire in place of a real one. -
Vauxhall Corsa B - Low Compression + Running Terrible 7 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Checked throttle position sensor using Opcom and all seems well there Last summer I serviced it... fuel, oil, air filters, spark plugs, new oil & brake pads Changed HT leads So I ran an compression test the other day and got the following results in bar: 1 -> 5.9 2 -> 6.1 3 -> 6.2 4 -> 6.0 According to the manual the compression ratio is 10.0:1 so seemigly you multiply by 1.38 to get your ideal compression ratio which would be 13.8? -

Bedford Rascal hesitant acceleration 5 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I serviced the van not long after buying it: I changed the cambelt, spark plugs, fan belt, oil filter, air filter, gearbox and diff oil, adjusted the valve clearences and swapped the distributor points and condenser for electronic ignition. I haven't changed the fuel filter yet though, and I haven't touched the carb at all nor the coil or HT leads. I re-timed the engine to 8 deg BTDC, the dwell angle is fine, both the mechanical advance and the vacuum advance seem to be operating correctly, the mixture and idle have been adjusted and the CO2 emissions seem fine. -
Citroen Xsara - Citroen xsara ? ECU fault 13 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Two of them matched original codes one related to coolant temp the other causing the ECU to put to much petrol in the fuel mix which is the reason for the car 'coughing' they are convinced that the ECU is faulty because they have replaced the coolant temp sensor already. Is this correct? I get the feeling I am being fobbed off because they do not really know what is wrong so they just want to replace the whole ECU as an easy option. -
fiat bravo 1.6 2002 model - Hi folks please help me with strange fault FIAT 23 May 2012 (Forum)
Also when I just turn ignition on the is a relay (i think) that is clicking away like mad (possibly trying to power up the fuel pump) Not sure but im guessing at that. I assume relay may be doing that due to battery being flat. I think the battery is knackered but would like input off anyone out there who has any ideas? Im getting a new battery in morning but dont want to pay out 80 quid if its not the solution. -
Peugeot 607 (2000 - ) - 2002 2.0 hdi Turbo boost coming in late 12 Apr 2012 (Forum)
However the next day same problem. We have changed all the vacume sensors on the back wall of the engine bay. Checked the fuel filter. And the pipe still isnt preasurising at a lower range. The turbo is working you just have to drive the car at high revs to feel it coming in. When we first disconected the lower inter cooler pipe (black plastic pipe) there was oil in it. -
VW Golf mk VI 1.6TDi (Oct 2009) - 60K service done - but expensive 3 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Last weekend managed to get the car serviced as recommended in the VW handbook (and the flashing reminder on the dash). It was the 60,000km service - which meant the following: 1. New Fuel Filter 2. New Air filer 3. New Oil Filter 4. Oil change 5. Electric diagnostic 6. Wheel alignment 7. Two new front tyres Now, it turns out the front tyres had worn out as a result of tow-out camber. -
Skoda Superb Estate - Which Skoda is more reliability 22 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Taking into consideration things like turbo's; injectors; DMF; DPF and whatever else they bolt on to these engines, which of the above 3 engines, with our current knowledge, should require the least repairs (ignoring fuel and tax etc for the moment)? Many thanks -
Megane Sport Coupe 16V 1.6 - Revs Limited Loss of power 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I then gave up and took it to the garage where they cleaned the flywheel sensor and replaced the coolant temp sensor, but they couldn't find what the problem was. Took it to a second garage and he checked the fuel lines, did engine diagnostics etc but nothing was coming up. Completely clueless as to what this is and I don't want to take it to Renault to have my money ripped away from me. Any help appreciated! -
All - DPF regen and low EGTs 2 Jan 2012 (Forum)
With low EGTs, the ECU has to spray disel into the exhaust gas stream to raise the EGTs to a sufficiently hightemperature to burn off the soot. Clearly this is waste of fuel since diesel burned in the exhaust does not contribute to useful work. But the more worrying problem is unburned diesel running into the sump and contaminating the oil. There is a very simple way to raise EGTs-raise the intake air temperature. -
Ford Focus Ghia 1.6 2006 - Check Engine Light and Alarm 30 Dec 2011 (Forum)
He suggested to leave it for a few days then try the car on the emissions tester if the light is still on. I suspect that the catalytic converter and or sensors may be affected by the unburnt fuel due to the misfire. I've have done about 20 miles over 2 days since the coil pack was replaced and the light is still on. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Since the coil pack was replaced and the attempted reset of the engine light the alarm has also been affected. -
Buying a first car - diabetic/insurance 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
This extra worry only makes me even more cautious as a driver, and I'm also aware that finding reasonable insurance as a diabetic can be a challenge. I need a solid car that can survive plenty of long journeys - fuel consumption is important - preferably something with a bit more grunt than the usual 'starter' car (no smartcars or Citroen C1s etc). I know as a first driver I shouldn't be setting my sights too high as there's always the worry of a first accident. -
Ford Mondeo TDCi 130bhp 06 - Fumes getting inside. What to check? 6 Sep 2011 (Forum)
First they thought the low power was caused by faulty egr valve but this proved incorrect. They now think it is a fuel related issue, maybe an IMV valve (whatever that is!). Am returning to them for further diagnostics tomorrow. The indie garage think the low power could well be turbo related but that was just based on a quick drive round the block... -
Astra GSI 16v 1997 2.0 with 111000km - How is MAF sensor and IAT sensor used 15 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I suspect that after doing a bit of driving some other sensors are coming into play to balance the fuel mixture a bit more, but when starting out, something is out of balance.I just don't quite understand the process of which sensors are used during the initial startup of the engine, vs. later on while driving.
