    British classics dominated day one of the Silverstone Auctions NEC Classic Motor Show sale, raising more than £500,000 as bidders jostled to buy historic Aston Martins, Jaguars and Minis. The car of the day was superb 1994 Jaguar XJ220, which raised a fitting £220,000. The right-hand drive supercar was formerly owned by the Brunei Royal Family who placed the factory order in 1991. The car has covered just 6000 miles.

    Nonetheless, hydrogen vehicles are currently being developed by a clutch of major manufacturers including Honda, Nissan and Hyundai. The only by-produce of a hydrogen fuel cell car is water, and proponents argue that hydrogen reduces so-called ‘range anxiety’ because hydrogen cars can be re-fuelled in the same way a petrol or diesel car can. However, hydrogen is often produced using fossil fuels, denting its ‘well-to-wheel’ CO2 efficiency, and is problematic to store, requiring a pressurised fuel tank.
  • Manheim Simulcast Now Upgraded Throughout Europe 27 Sep 2014 (News)
    Simulcast, developed in the UK over 10 years, allows car auction buyers to browse vehicles and bid and buy online at different auctions concurrently. After a 300% increase in online bidding, the latest imrovements have been rolled out throughout Europe. Using the system, buyers can watch multiple auctions live on their smartphone, tablet or PC; browsing, bidding and buying online as if they were sitting in the auction hall itself.

    The UK's Premier Division footballers may be car fanatics, but their huge salaries and fickle temperaments lead to some supercar bargains at auction.  A Carbon Black McClaren MP4-12C sold for £127,000 last October. A left hand drive 458 Spider F1 finished in Rosso Red fetched £152,000, whilst two F430 F1’s, one in Black and the second in Red, sold for £81,800 and £80,000 respectively.

    The 1956 Earl's Court Motor Show Silver Cloud is expected to raise £25,000 and boasts a recent overhauled of its 4.9-litre straight-six engine. However, the car is seldom used – bar a few club events – and requires some light recommissioing. Another ex-Motor Show star is a 1953 Bentley R-Type H.J. Mulliner Lightweight Sports Saloon (£20,000 - £25,000).

    It finally bowed out in a hail of blank gunfire to a round of applause from the cast and crew.' The car was criticised by eagle-eyed viewers of the programme at the time for being a right-hand drive model two years younger than when the programme was set, in 1981. And that the earliest quattros in the UK would have worn, X- and not V-plates - but for the rest of programme's fan base, it was a brilliant, evocative car that took joint starring role alongside Glenister and Hawes.

    One of the most hotly anticipated cars of the sale, a 1970 IKA Tornio 380S formerly owned by motor racing legend Juan Manuel Fangio, sold for £28,175 while two Ferraris - a 1982 512 BBi and a 1988 328 GTS - achieved £110,400 and £41,055 respectively.

    Manheim Auctions’ latest Market Analysis for Cars reports that in November average wholesale values stabilised, falling by just 0.06% (£4) to £7,169 compared with the previous month. Average values in the Fleet sector fell by 3.2% (£207) to £6,206, Dealer part exchange values fell by 5.0% (£119) to £2,236 while Manufacturer stock rose by 4.2% (£536) to £13,235.
