  • Ford Mondeo Mk4 - 2010 1.8 TDCI (125) hesitation 30 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I do think the problem is getting worse as today the hesitation felt a bit stronger than usual, more like a jolt on occasion rather than the usual flutter if that makes sense. The problem does feel like it is fuel related in some way, but as to what exactly I don't know, it would be easier if it happened everytime I drove it, but it doesn't. Has anyone got a clue as to what could be causing these symptoms? Any advice appreciated.
  • Chamfered speed "bumps" - worst design ever? 20 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Warning signs usually tell us to slow down to 30 or even 20 km/h on approach, but as the road speed is usually 50 before and after there is a lot of slowing down and speeding up, so brakes and suspension are subject to more wear and fuel is wasted.   Where conditions "permit", some drivers even take to swerving right round the bumps, regardless of solid white lines: a similar disregard to speed limits is quite widespread. And as an avid follower of Honest John, I seem to be the only driver who drives over the wretched things on one side, rather than trying to straddle, which wears the inner shoulders of the tyres.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol - 2003 Vauxhall Astra Cutting Out 9 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The car has been seen by two local garages who are unable to find the fault (both cleaned the throttle body with no improvement), I have also taken it to Vauxhall who said that no fault codes were being displayed - and they also cleaned the throttle body!! I have also ran a full tank of petrol with Fuel Injector Cleaner through to see if this helps - it didn't! It has also had a recent service which didn't make the problem go away. Someone suggested that the EGR valve could be sticking open but the Vauxhall garage dismissed this as no EGR fault code was being displayed.
  • Which car to go for? 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
    - budget: £18-21k - prefer small SUV/crossover type - got used to luxury and high seating of XC90 (but not fuel efficiency!) - automatic - prefer petrol but open to diesel - 6-8k miles per year - main qualities: comfort, safety, style - max age for used: two years We have so far considered Qashqai (£22k for 1.2 petrol new but unsure of resale value and second hand models scarce); Mazda CX-5 (looks good but costly new); CR-V (lots of kit for the price but costly new and poor reviews); RR Evoque (love the looks but costly even used and not a lot of kit for money); and Kia Sportage (looks good but not the best comfort levels or drive quality).
  • Fiat Ducato / Iveco Daily - Buying an LWB van ? 17 Oct 2014 (Forum)
My budget is around £4000, £5k at a push. I don't care too much for inside comfort etc. really more about space, reliabilty and fuel economy, as i may occasionally be doing 1000 mile runs across Europe. I should note I will not be carrying anything tremendously heavy, usually just furniture. Having said the above I've been looking at Fiat Ducato Maxi's and Iveco Daily's (particularly the 35S12).
  • Toyota Yaris Auto - Yaris auto intermittent power loss 24 Sep 2014 (Forum)
The technician doesn't think it is the MAS because it wouldn't behave like that and would do it even when warmed up. It doesn't have a MAP so that is ruled out, and he doesn't think it is the fuel system or accelerator for same reasons as MAP. He can only think it is the main control unit which he doesn't want to replace because it's expensive and he's not 100% sure. Has anyone ever experienced this and been able to solve it?
  • 57 plate Dodge nitro 2.8crd diesel - Injector nozzles melted 16 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I'm not sure whether it has run on it's own oil, turbo seems to be ok no excessive play, a little oil residue in the turbo pipe but nothing more than I've seen on other cars, I cannot see how turbo has gone at 39k. Other thought is maybe it has been filled up with petrol hence the contaminated fuel light staying on with ignition for a good while? Or head gasket, cracked cylinder = water in the cylinders causing steam? Or has something caused the injectors to be stuck open? I would like to find the cause if I can to save it happening again!
  • Mazda CX-5 - Mazda CX-5 - Petrol vs Diesel 2WD 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
On the other hand the diesel is cheaper on road tax and gets better MPG on a long run. But this would be wiped out by the cheaper purchase price of the petrol and lower fuel cost per litre. Any words of advice from anyone greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dan.
  • Corsa C 1.2 16V - Drive by wire hrottle problem 7 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Turn the ignition on and the throttle constantly try to set itself, the EML and Spanner lights flick on and off simultaneously with the throttle body moving and sometime the fuel pump works to. There's no codes stored other than an immobiliser fault code. When it settles and I press on the accelerator pedal gently the same thing starts to happen...the more I press on the pedal the more frequently it happens until I reach full throttle when the throttle body just goes closed to fully open constantly.
  • Volkswagen Bora 1.9 pd tdi 115 HP MK IV - 1.9 pd tdi 115HP Bora MKIV lagging... 8 Mar 2014 (Forum)
It was hesitating for a second, then for another, and went well again.... At higher speed it is more noticable. Feels like when you run out of fuel for seconds. Then run 200 km without problems. Today I started the car after 5 days rest time(I do not use the car too often). The engine started but it was shaking, and when I pushed the throtle it was lagging and shaking even more, with much more smoke all around my garage then ususally.
  • Tyne Tunnel - what are they playing at? 6 Mar 2014 (Forum)
In the last 6 months there are tailbacks northbound stretching back over a mile every morning , and it all seems down to the fact the muppets running the tunnel close it every single time a petrol/fuel tanker wants to go through. Each one of these closures only lasts 2-3 minutes but the cumulative effect is causing huge and unecessary delays. They don't do this on the southbound tunnel and there are no delays there at all.
  • Tracking your movements? - We Know where you are (From Daily mail) 26 Feb 2014 (Forum)
They log phone calls, music played and downloaded, average fuel consumption and can tell you when a car is ready for its service. But the AA, RAC and other motoring groups fear a lack of control over who can handle this information compromises people's privacy and civil liberties.
  • Which Small Economical/Reliable Car Budget 4K? 1 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I'm looking to get a smaller car as my Focus Auto is crap on fuel. I don't want an auto by the way, just a small car (not tiny) that is relaible and cheap to run. I'm not that bothered about £30 tax as I think I am slightly under budget unless I got a 107, C1 which are too small.
  • FIAT Grande Punto - Grande Punto 1.9JTD Sporting MAF sensor issue HELP 19 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I have a 2007 Grande Punto 1.9 diesel sporting with the engine management light on, car runs perfect no funny hickups etc although the fuel consumption has gone fairly bad. I have had it plugged in, which came back being fault code P0111 and P0101 which indicates that the air flow metre is at fault (lack of voltage supplied). I have had another air flow metre from a car breakers and still the fault is still coming up on the diagnostics.
  • 07 Mazda 6 2.0 TS Diesel - Loss of Power: 2007 Mazda 6 2.0 TS Diesel 8 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Oil levels weren't excessively high (below "F"), and I've always had the low ash oil put in.  This didn't cure it.  "Current" fuel consumption readings as I drive are good suggesting that the DPF isn't trying to regenerate as I'm driving.  The error code said "mass air flow sensor".  I had that changed, but the problem is still there.
  • Toyota Yaris - Toyota Yaris Diesel Mk2 2010 - DPF Regeneration 19 Aug 2013 (Forum)
The car has covered approx 50k miles with  80% at motorway speed. Because of the very frequent regeneration of the DPF, the fuel economy has been severly affected. The car used to regenerate every 300 miles or so and gives around 65mpg, now drops to 55 to 60mpg. The problem has been reported to the garage and the technican didn't find anything wrong with it as there was no fault code being logged in the ECU.
  • Best MPG automatic 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I have not driven any new cars for a long time, specially an automatic.  I discovered that £30 of fuel would drive me 2 1/2 more than my 33 yo car. But the biggest surprise was the auto in town. Small engine, still rather nippy at a traffic light. And no change of gear while my normal return journey would need at least 100.
  • Ford Mondeo Zetec Mark 3 - Manufactured Dec 2006 - Car Interior Motor Running Sound 10 May 2013 (Forum)
However, before I take it any further, could someone who has a similar vehicle have a listen and let me know whether they can detect a similar sound, please? Please note that the sound described is certainly not the electric fuel pump; this make a totally different sound and comes from a totally different place.  I do know what that sounds like!  The sound which I'm talking about sounds like one of those small servo motors running all the time, though, of course, it could be something completely different which is producing it.
  • Ford Mondeo estate 2006 Tdci 130 - Mondeo diesel - smoke on startup 26 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Last service a month ago. Car starts first time and runs well, with plenty of power and nicely smooth. Fuel consumption has been between 40 and 50 mpg since purchase. However, over the last 9 months it has started to smoke a bit on startup. The engine starts fine, but for the first 10 seconds or so it seems to run very rough with a noisy rattle, and it puts out a fair bit of white smoke, which smells very dieselly, like an old railway locomotive.
