  • Too Many Bus Lanes? There Is Hope 2 Apr 2004 (Forum)
IMO, there is a use for a few bus lanes but the enforcement periods should be decreased. Cycle lanes - you must have some where they are never used or only run for a few yards. Speed humps work well if positioned well, but I feel we don't need them every few feet in every road. Visit the link below, and decide if you if you agree with this gentleman like I do.
  • Car Servicing 31 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Also would you change spark plugs as a matter of course after 20,000 miles (4 years), everyone seems to think just leave them if the car is running ok. I would welcome your opinions.
  • Clio - brief dash fault 27 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The second time, most dials fell to zero for a second or two, and she reports a buzzing from behind them. Running of the car not apparently affected. I haven't witnessed the problem during a 25-mile journey this pm. But I seem to recall a thread along these lines a few months ago. The immediate cause may be low temperature - car lives outdoors.
  • Change from car to motorbike 23 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Would a 125cc motor that is well serviced etc last long enough to be viable? What are other motorbike riders opinion on this? Is it a good idea in the long run? Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Gregory
  • bit late with mot- does it matter????? 19 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Just had car back today after two weeks being repaired after accident. Got insurance, car tax and current mot. Mot runs out at weekend and can't get it in to be mot'd until early next week. Does it matter being few days late on the mot ????? I know you can legally drive without an mot as long as it is to an appointment for it.
  • Alfa 156 tracking adjustment 1 Feb 2004 (Forum)
As I live on an unmade lane I am conscious of the risk of the tracking running out of true on my Alfa. Sure enough, last week I was giving the car it's usual checks when I noticed that the inside edge on the tyres is starting to show greater wear, a classic sign on the JTD 156 that the tracking is out.
  • Vauxhall leaking coolant. 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I thought it was an airlock so I opened the expansion tank and ran the engine the coolant ran over, I sqeezed the pipes into and out of the radiator and it seemed ok for a day. Anyway its leaking coolant again, the temperature guage is running hotter than normal and the heaters are cold. I again tried to get rid of an airlock last night again the coolant in the bottle ran over but afterwards the heaters were working and the temperature guage was normal.
  • Rover 416 Si Heater Cold. 20 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone tell me how i can rectify these problems as there is no work shop manuals that cover from "P" reg upwards on this model. I have checked the coolant for oil and the engine runs sooth and does not over heat, so my guess is the head gasket is ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Steff.
  • Icy windscreen: cold fan heater? 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
In fact, it would seem to cause internal misting as well. So I normally avoid using the car heater until I am off and running and the engine has warmed up fully. Is this a good technique for icy mornings? Mike
  • Lovely Traffic Wardens! 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Same woman arrives late every day, and it is her god-given right to park on the yellow zigzags, thereby also blocking in whichever car happens to be at the front of the queue. Until today, that is... For the first time in almost a decade of me doing the school run, as if by magic a traffic warden appeared, and although the woman in question tried to scarper, the warden managed to get her details. To give her her due, the warden also then waved on another car which decided to park in the same place, with a verbal warning rather than a ticket.
  • Terrano a non starter 24 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I suspect I have confused the alarm/immobiliser circuitry, though cannot rule out overfuelling or other similar problem from only running engine briefly yesterday. Any ideas?

  • Corsa Wont Stop!!! 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Connected the battery and noticed the central radio display lit up straight away before putting the key in, hmmmmm. Fired her up and let it run for a few minutes, no leaks, nice and quiet, great, switch off, er, it wont, even with the key out still chuntering along happily!! Stalled it and removed batt earth. Reconnected and switched ign on all normal, switch off and all the warning lights stay on.
  • Injection pump settings - citroen bx 3 Nov 2003 (Forum)
The garage replaced it and the injectors with my original engine\'s Bosch pump and injectors and everything runs very smoothly - BUT the engine is not as lively and not as fast. Technical data indicates the later 1905 cc diesal was about 5 hp stronger. Should I expect a fall off in performance because of this - should the pump be tuned?
  • Panda oil pressure?? 28 Sep 2003 (Forum)

Engine well flushed, new 15w40 oil, new filter, new sender unit fitted, off for test drive.
  • Fiat Punto '99 - '03 - Good Car? 24 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I now work a 10 minute walk from where I live so I'm looking to change cars to something cheaper to insure, tax and run and I quite like the Fiat Punto ('99 - '03 range). I've been looking on AutoTrader and for a two year old 1.2litre with about 20 - 30,000 miles in a nice metallic colour you're looking at about £4,000.
  • Peugeot 306 Power Loss 29 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The symptoms are intermittent and two fold, firstly when the foot is taken off the accelerator the revs can drop to 500rpm, occasionally stalling, a loss of power is experienced for a few seconds, as if running on only 2 or 3 cylinders before picking up. Secondly but more rarely there is temporary loss of power during normal driving at about 2500 to 3000 rpm. Is this likely to be the stepper motor bearing in mind that the revs always drop and never rise and does this have any effect in the 2500-3000 rev range or does the problem lie with the coil pack.

  • Rover 75 - diesel engine problem 19 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I own a 2001 Rover 75 2.0 CDT auto. This car uses the BMW 2.0 litre diesel engine. In June this year the engine began running rough on idle and cutting out. The problem became worse and eventually it was diagnosed as a faulty pressure sensor in the high pressure fuel rail. After replacement the engine was fine. A few weeks later, in July, the identical problem returned while I was on holiday.
  • Nova - noisy diff 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I\'ve put the car on axle stands and found excessive lateral play in both drive shafts (at the gear box end), also when the car is run in gear (on the axle stands)a noticable humming noise eminates from the gearbox which increases with speed in any gaer. Can anyone please advise what my options are, including approx costs and whether it is safe to drive the car.
