  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - 09 2.0 Alarm keeps going off - at wits end 26 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Ok so local dealer had the car in and run a diag on it, no fault shown and insist it should be ok, however its still happening at random. All they can do is plug in their computer and they won't change any parts until a fault is shown. The dealer did not supply the car, I could travel to the supplying dealer if I have to, I have made them aware of the issue.
  • Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 98 1.4 Overheating - water pump failure? 11 Dec 2009 (Forum)
My son's old Xsara doesn't circulate the water properly. The thermostat opens OK and we've flushed it through. The flushing water runs through the heater OK and out of the anti-airlock 'bicycle valve' on the exit pipe with gusto. The rad is ok. It seems as though the impellor of the water pump isn't working. Can this happen? I suspect there is a tiny head-gasket leak as it loses small amounts of water and it seems to be overly pressurised.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - tdci - how big a risk? 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
i've driven a few of these mondeos, and really like the idea of something with that kind of pull at those kind of running costs. however, i've also read a multitude of horror stories online regarding dmf problems and injectors packing in. what kind of mileage are we talking about before these problems manifest? what steps (if any) can i take to avoid them?
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.2 radio 22 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Ive seen on ebay vauxhall cd tuners that would fit straight in but they are fetching nearly as much as a new non vauxhall one and are probably years old. I have heard someone mention running problems from doing this but I dont see how. Many thanks for your responses.
  • Guess AE's new car 19 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I am shortly to have what my company calls a "life event". I am to retire early in the next two months. I currently run a company (lease) car which will have to be returned. I have just purchased a new (second hand) car. Your task is to guess what car I have purchased. The brief I had for purchase was 3-5 years old, under 40k miles.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Handrake not working (back drums) 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I reckon the adjusters are OK (could hear them ratchet up when I first checked it) and the cables seem to run OK, so looking for some ideas. Footbrake working fine. If anything, slightly better since the job was done. BTW, drums weren't in brilliant shape, though not scored just lipped at the edge. Stuart
  • Skoda Octavia I (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.9 Pedal sinks to floor after brakepad change 31 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Changed the front brakes on my Octavia 1.9 Tdi today, but after bleeding the system the brake pedal can be pushed to the floor when the engine is running... With the engine off the pedal has a little more resistance, but can still be pushed all the way down... Servo sounds like it's sucking air when I pump the pedal... Brakes were okay before apart from wearing down...
  • Failing to keep agreement 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
However, that particular dealer is out of business but one of their other franchises is still up and running. So it is the same company. The only difference is like someone owing several shops and closes the one you bought from. The dealer is saying the sales rep has left the company and should have not agreed to the free service even hough it was countersigned by his manager and this person has too left the co.
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.6 bleeding fuel system 25 Oct 2009 (Forum)
As a result of a problem with the power output of my car { not going into the turbo } I replaced the air filter and fuel filter, the car wont run now , but was starting fine prior to this. I have primed the fuel filter and the filter has definately got diesel in it. After attempting to start it by towing it as the battery is now flat, there is pressure in the system if I release one of the pipes off the filter.
  • Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 02 1.9DTi P1 Error codes help 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hello I would be most grateful if someone could help me with the following, I have problems with an 80K miles 1.9DTI when starting up. It just does not want to start. When it eventually fires it will run OK, but on long journeys I have noted an intermittent loss of power and the heater plug light comes on for a couple of seconds, it then goes out and all is well for a number of miles. The error codes I have are P100D and P1028.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.8 Alternator charging problem 19 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The alternator went down so we put a new one on it from Vospers and the voltage was fluctuating, so brother sent it back......they put a new one on and the same again......voltage jumping all around - charging light goes on and off intermittently, then the other night brother was driving the car and all the dash lights went out - car was still running; seems to be worse the higher the revs Sorry it's a bit of a vague diagnosis but I am relaying information from brother.....I didn't touch it

or the cover (head with orange sealent putty ...) ran down to the bottom of the engine 3.) split in front screen 4.) the new roof tarpolin departed from the front/left frame (rusted), the slow motion seems to be related to a low hydrolic fluid stand ? Else it fires up and runs ; well - the can is shot ... What are my chances (budget) to get it safe on the road in a every day usable car ? Any advice on the issues ?
  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 99 2.8 Can I adjust idle speed? 6 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi - first post here. I have 99 BMW 5 (E39) which runs just fine but I need some help with the idle speed. It's fine when the choke is engaged but when warm it idles at about 500rpm which means it sometimes stalls at lights and makes driving in slow traffic a challenge!
  • What was your best car / worst car ? 5 Oct 2009 (Forum)
My worst car was a 1990 Ford Escort 1.6l LX (not even injection). Always munched through light bulbs, engine very rough running (even after new spark plugs and service). Slow acceleration. On the day I got rid of it the heating fan packed up. Very much a Friday afternoon build car.
  • Company car v car allowance 2 Oct 2009 (Forum)
To measure this I reckon I should calculate: A/ Take home pay based on salary + the cash allowance. B/ Take home pay based on salary - car BiK (typical car). A - B = what I can spend on running a car (finance, depreciation, servicing, parts, insurance etc) without being worse off by not taking a company car. Anything I have missed? Thanks.
