fiesta 1.4 tdci zetec 2008 - ongoing idle problem 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi there iv got a 2008 fiesta 1.4 tdci f6ja engine... ever since iv had this car its had a slight judder when idleing its only slight buts its noticable also iv recently had an air con service as it was out of gas but when I turned it on my revs was very erratic up and down as if it was exaggerating the idle problem... iv already had my injectors seals done and my injectors checked they are fine iv also changed my oil and replaced my air filter... recently had a diagnostic done and showed up my maf sensor was not working so iv replaced that and check the wiring all is in order but problem still persists... the car itself drives fine and pulls away through the gears no problem but I do get a bit of hesitation when driving slow in low gears so now im swaying towards the fuel delivery... any ideas and has anyone came across this before? -
£4500 Budget for Hatchback that will last? 14 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I am also staring down the barrel of kids so I think a 5dr hatchback/small estate would make sense (something the size of a focus). I also hope that I can get something that is reasonably fuel efficient without being absolutely sluggish? I am aware I might be asking for too much! I am just unsure whether to balance age vs miles on the clock and diesel vs petrol. I have bought some terrible cars in the past and I hope that will end here! -
Various - Help me choose! 25 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I intend to keep the car for about 8 years and am therefore concerned about reliability. I care about responsiveness and fuel economy but depreciation isn't of much importance. I will be buying brand new. What are your views? Thanks! -
Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 00 1.5 Loses Power in High Gears 7 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I've had something similar in an old car and the fault was the coil pack. This was easy to test with a multimeter. Does anyone know how to test the coils on these fuel injection cars? The coil sits directly above the spark plug. So basically: Has anyone else had similar problem? I saw JaggyG had something similar but didn't post a fix. Does anyone have any other ideas on what it could be? -
Vauxhall Vectra C - Vectra C diesel irratic idle/stalling 20 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Its recently had the timing belt changed and also the inlet manifold has been changed due to the swirl valves not working. The wiring on no. 3 injector has been replaces. Fuel filter is ok. The EGR valve has been removed and cleaned but i noticed there are no gasgets on the EGR valve and there never has been whislt ive owned the car. The car doesnt smoke only when under harsh driving. -
VW Bora '02' - Keeps cutting out 14 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I cannot jump start the car and have to turn the ignition off and then restart the car. It starts first time leading me to believe that it is not fuel related. I have had it in a number of garages and they cannot find the fault this includes the main dealer who had it for two days. -
Ford Mondeo zetec MK4 - Legal 2 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Motorway driving at between 1800-2200 revs the engine stuters, hesitiates, jumps - feels like youre playing with the accelerator only youre not. Bristol Street have changed the fuel filter, modified and calibrated the injectors (their words) yet still they cannot find a fault as the computers are saying no fault. Ive taken a technician out with me and he felt the fault and booked it in. -
Audi A4 Avant or Mazda 6/Saab 9.3 - Audi A4 Avant or Mazda 6/Saab 9.3 family car 28 May 2013 (Forum)
I was looking at Audi A4 Avant 1.8 and Mazda 6 2.o petrol but I'm not really sure. I'm not bothered about fuel consumption as I do low mileage and I plan to keep the next car only for few years. I alos came across Saab 9-3 but I know they stipped production so maybe will be difficlut to find spares? I did plenty of research and my head is buzzing now...Can anyone share their experience with the above mentioned cars or suggest any other cars? -
Ford Focus - Is the garage lying to me? 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
When I went to collect it was still in their workshop and they couldn't get it started. They said the fuel lines had become airlocked and that they didn't have the kit to sort it, but would fix it the next day. I then got another call on the saturday to tell me that it wasn't air locking at all. They are now telling me that the oil pressure tensioner (if that makes sense to you) has let go and needs replacing. -
Ford Fiesta - Fiesta Idling too high 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I still have the idling problem, does anyone know what it could be??? I checked the error codes and I got this list P0460: Fuel Level Sensor Circuit P0171: System too Lean (Bank 1) P0704: Clutch Switch In put Circuit Malfunction I had previously cleared the ECU after cleaning the connectors and the only other one I had before this other than p2119 was p0704. -
Nissan Terrano II - REFUND for 2nd hand car + cost of returning it 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Within 30 mins of driving it again, it had stopped 5 times before I managed to get it to my garage. Diagnosis was a problem with the fuel pump which may or may not be mechanical. The warranty is up to £1000 over 12mths but doesn't cover mechanical. The proposed bill - is up to £1300. To me it sounds alot but I've used the same garage for many years and they've always been very fair, so I have to trust them. -
Nissan X-Trail - Possible Purchase - Advice 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
If so I can't really justify the additional potential cost of getting them fixed versus the savings over petrol. b) Is the petrol fuel economy really around 29mpg? I would expect this to be lower for some reason and assume its definitely so when using the 4WD? Anything else you can volunteer would be great, and many thanks for any assistance up front! -
Help - which used family car to buy? £5500 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I have read on here the sage of diesels repair costs and am now very hesitant to go for these though. The difference in fuel and tax costs of diesel to petrol for me would be about £700 a year though by my calculations, in favour of diesel obviously. Any advice welcome - I am nearly out of ideas entirely. -
Toyota Lucida Estima 2.2 TD 1995 - Starting Problem 2 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Other forums I have been on point me towards the Stop Solenoid, but they refer to non starting vehicles and not a sporadic starting problem like mine. I have checked all the usall culprits like Battery, changing the Fuel and air filters etc. It has been suggested it could be an injector fault, but the car runs fine with no eratic idle problems once running. Has anybody come across this problem with their Toyota Lucida, and point me in the right direction? -
Modern Automatics 1 Nov 2012 (Forum)
So what are modern autos like? Can you still get the torque converter type and are they more fuel efficient these days? How about DSG style autos - are some manufacturers' boxes better and more reliable than others? Do modern CVTs handle hills better than the old versions used to? -
Toyota - Yaris Verso replacement 30 Oct 2012 (Forum)
From my point of view, reliability is of paramount importance, which I suppose rules out French cars! Fuel economy not a factor and would much prefer petrol to diesel. It might come to just running on the Yaris for a few more years, and accept it might need some major repairs, if there are no better options. -
Audi A4 1.9 TDI - Rough Idle 14 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I have an ageing Audi A4 1.9 TDI (03 plate 120,000miles) that has been a great car until a few months ago when it started to idle roughly intermittently. It has not lost power and the fuel consumption has not gone up. It pulls smoothly at all road and engine speeds. My local Audi dealer has fitted a new EGR valve and electronic engine mount but this has not solved the problem and I am now several hundred pounds poorer. -
Not quite broke yet! - Justine Greening 27 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Well, like everyone on here, I am sufferring with the high cost of motoring, and cannot escape from it, yes, use the car as little as possible, but our esteemed transport minister says that motorists have to reduce the deficit! talk about the goose and golden egg. I do not fill up as often so estimate a 25% reduction in fuel duties for HMG, Stopped buying anything absolutely non essential o the high street, will not nuy a new car, doubt if i will even buy a "newish" car. If "They" keep on hammering all of us so much and we all stp spending, look at the shop closures on the high street. -
Jeep Grand Cherokee - LPG or diesel Grand Cherokee or Mercedes ML 10 Apr 2012 (Forum)
The vehicle on petrol does 17mpg in both the 4.0l straight six and the 4.7 V8. The diesel does 29 mpg. With the difference in fuel cost there is not lot in it. Anyone have any opinions to offer? Perhaps along the lines or reliability, service costs or anything else I have not thought of. I am not looking for emotive arguments like diesels are smelly and noisy because the CRD engines are quiet enough for me. -
