  • New Micra shock breakdown! 27 May 2003 (Forum)
Was been driven in a mate's brand new (well 5 day old) new shape Nissan Micra 1.2 today when it stalled, upon restarting it the car wouldn't manage more than 30 mph, and the engine was making a loud clattery, slapping noise and vibrating a lot in it's mountings, not a hpappy bunny at all.
  • Buying my company Volvo? 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
After 20 years of company cars my employer is pulling the plug and giving me a monthly allowance instead. As I do 20-25K a year, mostly private miles, this won't let me run a nice new Volvo as I've been doing. My Volvo is 3 years old, has done 75,000 miles.
  • Mercedes Paint finish 23 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I thought that quality cars were galvanised dipped hence I was considering having a report written on the bodywork finish by a specialist company. Could anyone please advise, from their own experience whether this is the best way forward and if so perhaps recommend a reputable company, preferably in the North West so I may pursue the matter further with Mercedes.
  • Shakey wheel 2 1 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Then as stated 5 mins into the journey it started to vibrate a lot more and didn't stop, i proceeded to go round a bend at 70 and from what i can tell it stopped until the car straightened up, then it started again. Am i right in thinking this is the wheel bearings, if so how much are they, how quick to do (hourly labour). Bear in mind this 406 is only 4 years old, but 120k.
  • Insurance: good news 2 May 2002 (Forum)
Which broker? It's Specialist Car Division, PO Box 3203, Brentwood, Essex, CM14 4GG, telephone 01277 206911, fax 01277 206519. No, I have no commercial connection with them. Yes, I'm delighted.
  • Peugeot 405 oil leak 8 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I have an old, high mileage Peugeot 405 (1.6 carburettor model) which has started to leak a bit of oil from out of no. 1 sparkplug. It?s not too bad at the moment but I would like some advice from the experts if possible.
  • URGENT - Renault Remote 16 Feb 2002 (Forum)
However they have asked him to bring in his old one for them to test it. I remember reading somewhere that these blippers sometimes lose their settings when the battery goes flat/battery not replaced following the correct procedure. In this case it may just be a case of resetting the blipper.
  • Oil pressure, or lack of! 30 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Hi, My car (1988 Audi 80, 1.8 carb) has developed a really annoying (and worrying) habit of showing me the low oil pressure light at higher engine revs (i.e. about 60mph+ in 5th). My first port of call was changing the sensor as it had begun to leak a bit of oil.
  • Brakes or no brakes 18 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I understood it to be based heavily on the Vauxhall Astra, in which case it should have dual circuit brakes. If that's true, then the car should have stopped by application of the footbrake, not by the parking brake as the piece stated. I have never had the experience of dual circuit brakes failing; presumably you get more pedal travel and uneven baking.
  • Mini Brakes bleeding procedure 20 May 2001 (Forum)
I own a 1989 F reg Mini mayfair with servo assisted brakes, i just wondered what the procedure is for bleeding the brakes, the front are disc and the rear are drums. Is my car on a split system and if so which will it be, diagonal or front and rear. Also, just how do i go about bleeding them, please tell, i am new to all this and although the old haynes manula is helpful it doesnt tell me everything i need to know.
  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus Mk2 - VVT Camshaft Pulley 8 Dec 2024 (Forum)
After six months of this, I though maybe the cambelt is on the way out (I have no idea what I'm talking about, though) and booked the car in for its first cambelt change along with the water pump too. Once the job was done, the clackering noise was still present. The mechanic stated it was just the oil pressure building up on an old car.
  • My 1st month, 3300 miles, with an S-Max 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Up front, they are quite close to what I?ve been used to. The switches, although not quite as tactile as German cars, move with precision and have a nice feel to them. It does get worse as you move back through the car. The plastics do have a cheaper feel the further back you go; my old BMW had the quality throughout the car.
  • Nissan X-Trail - car on finance, engine light comes on 30 Oct 2024 (Forum)
The facts: Bought "SUV" from dealer in June 2024.  Very happy with car, it's about 10 years old. Part cash, part PX, part finance, total around £8000 July, engine light comes on Advise dealer of this by phone. They say, keep us in the loop. Diagnostic check shows advisory that glow plugs might need changing in the future.
  • Seat Arona FR sport (New) - Misdescribed and new car woes 3 Jul 2022 (Forum)
After having owned an Arona (same model) from new for 3 years and being generally delighted with the car, I ordered a new (updated) car from the local main Seat dealer. I have now had this car for 4 days and it has 71 miles on the clock. The revisions and update to the model appear beneficial and sensible.
  • All - Car seats? 12 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Really stuck with feeling uncomfortable with car seats at the moment and struggling to work out whether I'm just getting old or whether they are changing the design/ergonomics. I am 5 foot 2, and need the seat fairly forward and the back fairly upright to reach!
  • VW Golf - Bought from a dealer and have a problem or two 27 Sep 2012 (Forum)
My old car was part-ex for about 50% of the cost of the new one, 50% paid in cash. First issue was that the car was losing/using coolant. He replaced the radiator and all is well now on that front, though obviously it's taken a while to make sure it's still not leaking.
  • Small Car Advice Reqd 18 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Realises this means new car will be in daughter's name until she can change to her own. Hubby has a Fiat Doblo diesel and that is the main family car for trips, taking the dog etc. She uses her own car predominantly for going to and from work , 20 miles each way most of which is motorway.
  • Crash & cash it scam 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
This was on the radio today and is very common practice - apparently. Probably old hat and has been flogged to death already... ...but just in case it has not, I pass the info on. SCENARIO You are tootling down the road minding your own business. Suddenly the car behind you does a TWO car overtake.
  • Waiting lists for cars... 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
As I've never been in the market to actually buy a car new outright (PS I am not 12 years old before anyone thinks I am - just never had £30K burning a hole in my pocket) I've never had experience of the new car buying process and have always been puzzled as to how much when you order a car it already is sitting somewhere on a dock or in the dealers yard or whether literally an order is given to build it and how much this varies by car company.
  • One car two prices 13 Jun 2005 (Forum)
One slight problem was that i had a look around on Auto trader when i got home and found apparently the same car for £7,495 on the net. Not a different car, but the same one. The doubt is the car on the net is described as a Desire, but the spec is a SX, and the mileage and age is identical to mine. They also only have two C3's for sale at the moment, and the other one is older and a different colour.
