  • What do I do if my MoT ends while I'm self isolating? 20 Mar 2020 (Ask HJ)

  • Hyundai i20 1.2SE - Experience 9 Jun 2019 (Forum)
However in my experience I found that the excellent warranty wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Have owned various Fords, Nissans, VW, Renaults (over 32 years) and this is the only car to give any significant trouble. Looking around online I see various people have the same issues with i10 and i20 clutches and despite the replacement of clutches and flywheels, the problems persist with these cars.

  • What's the best big vehicle for a family of six? 10 Sep 2018 (Ask HJ)

  • Peugeot RCZ 1.THP - Main dealer used car warranty, wear & tear 7 Sep 2018 (Forum)
As the car I wanted ha to be low miles and a certain spec, bought from this dealer who belongs to another Marque, main dealer. The 1.6THP is used in BMW's as well as Renaults I think and had a reputation for the timing chain to fail. I noted a slight rattle from the engine about 2 months ago, ie when we had the car 8 months.   I'm the second owner,  the car has full Peugeot service history and I had it service through Peugeot a couple of months ago, the 5th service at about 17700 miles.
  • Could I buy a new car with a scrappage discount, then sell it on for a profit? 8 Feb 2018 (Ask HJ)

  • Any - Cars for tall people (6' 4")? - and my experience. 26 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I'm 6 foot 4 inches tall and 16 stone. The (small) cars I've owned in the past have been a 1994 Ford Fiesta, 2000 Renault Clio, and other slightly larger cars. I had the Fiesta and Clio for a couple of years each with no problems. I have owned my current Corsa for two years and from about three months after purchasing it I started to have problems with my right knee, at first I put it down to someone done at the gym but it soon dawned on me that it is the car so it's time to get something different - I would've got rid of it sooner but it's so cheap to run.

  • Auris Hybrid HSD - Auris HSD-older avg mileage or newer high mileage 2 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I am looking to replace my 2001 Renault Clio and was looking at 3-4 year old Auris Hybrids. My local Toyota dealer currently has a couple of Auris Hybrids that are within or near my price range: - 2010 T-Sprit with Sat-nav, 4,500 miles above the average for the age, Silver, £8,999 (12 months warranty, the MOT & tax expired 3 months ago so I'm guessing it's been sitting on their forecourt for that time & the battery had gone flat when I had a look at it.
  • MX5 MK3 / 3.5 - MX5 MK3 / 3.5 Bike rack / tow bar ? 22 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Hi HJ Forum folks, we’re considering a 2.0 Mazda MX 5 tin top, circa 2010 – 2012 as our second car, so something a bit different to our main car which is a Nissan 350z engined Renault   Grand Espace Initiale.  We really want to be able to occasionally carry 2 road bikes with the MX 5.

  • Civic, Focus, Astra - Advice on car to handle commuting to new job 15 Jan 2014 (Forum)
That seems to be a simillar story for a Focus or Mazda 3 (in each case, petrol of course is younger or less miles, but I think the mileage (maybe 20k a year) satisfies a diesel...) . On the other hand, for the same money, it seems like I could have a much younger Astra or Renault or Peugeot (2010/2011 or even younger with less than 30k on the clock). Golf's, A3s and 1 series might be nice but would need an even bigger hit on miles and age than the Civic or Focus and I think they really are just cash for prestige (and maybe it's just me, but the Golf seems really dull and uninteresting these days...)

  • I LEASE FROM MOTABILITY BUT I WANT TO BUY NOW 14 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have concidered buying a much older car and hope that it is resonably reliable, I am thinking maybe something with a very high seat to make it easy to get in and out, range rover, or something simular with a very high entrance and plenty of leg room and comfort is very importent. I drive a renault grand scenic at the moment, and although it is smooth & economicle it is no longer really that suitable with regards to getting in & out...It was at the time the very best I could choose with my given budget and that was also suitable for my needs I am quite aware of most the cars available on the scheme and quite a few are very suitable, It is the A/P That is now making me think about moving on to pastures new...

  • Car Radios. 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The only thing missing is steering wheel controls, but I figure no-one has got that right yet (apart from Renault who's implementation of remote stereo controls is superb) Sitting in the car listening to the long version of "money for nothing" I pondered on how far we had come in all things digital music and in car ICE since 1973.
  • Problem getting a resonable price newish van MPV 6 Jan 2010 (Forum)
We are in need of a second car and I dont want to have to take out a short term rental. I did try a renault dealership regarding the new kangoo and they offered £250 of list price, also im not convinced about the durability of the kangoo van. I know its a new chassis but the old kangoo van was a dog.
