Vauxhall Vectra C - MOST RELIABLE TAXI PRIVATE HIRE MINICAB 12 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I am looking to replace my 2005 taxi 1.9 cdti 120 bhp as I have had enough, replacement engine, headgasket, shockers every so often, electrics, ecu, this sensor that sensor. the list goes on.. not as reliable as my old vectra b 2.0 dti. Once I put a car on I can have it on for 8 years but sadly these days the cars cannot take the battering as they used to. So I aim for 4/ 5 years, Cannot change every so often as too many fees and tests to pass. -
Ford Grand C-MAX - Poor / non-starting but no fault codes 9 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Simply no response. Called out AA who said that there were no fault codes. He "reset the system" and the car started. Any advice appreciated. What's interior scan? Is the message supposed to show when starting or only switching off or both? Does point 1 seem normal if starting from cold in winter? We got the car in late november and the slow-responding starting did not happen then. -

Chrysler Grand Voyager 1998 3.3 Auto - Won't start as if it has run out of petrol 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Sorry but I have lost the information I was following on the threads (everything seems so old I wanted to see if the site is still active) No one wants to work on it. The car was running fine. Parked up one night. went to it in the morning and it was as if we had run out of petrol. so put petrol in, still nothing. -
Ford Focus Estate - Auto '07' - Cut out - Worked when battery disconnected 24 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi, Grateful if anyone had any ideas. Although my car is only 4 years old I've noticed it doesn't always turn over on its first go, especially on damp days. I've had the car since February and this has been the case even after services. However I usually give it a bit of gas or turn off and turn back on and it works. -
Vauxhall Astra 1.6 hatchback - Low Mileage Out of Warranty Control Box Replaced 20 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Now Despite our car being just over 4 years old, it still has done only 6,900 miles. Less than the advised 10,000 first year service mileage. The technician suggested because of the low mileage they would phone Vauxhall to see what if anything they would offer towards cost of replacement. -

Audi A4 B7 - VCA fuel consumption - conspiracy theory 29 May 2010 (Forum)
I recently bought an 18 month old 2.0 TDI 140 PS A4 Avant Multitronic from an Audi main dealer. Combined cycle consumption published by Audi and the Vehicle Certification Agency (http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/) for this car is 45.6 mpg (emissions 164 g/km). -
1994 BMW E36 M3 - White smoke (over fuelling?) 22 May 2010 (Forum)
I've been told the rad weld could have caused problems with my coolant temperature sensor (and even damaged the heads), but the car has never overheated and I'm pretty sure the smoke isn't steam. Thanks, Marc. -
Volkswagen Lupo (1999 - 2004) - 99 1.4 Bad Engine Noise 7 Feb 2010 (Forum)
All the fluids are at the correct level. Have only just bought it so don't know how it's materialised? Car was warm when I bought it and just sounded like bad tappets so thought this would be the case, however when I drove it home 100 miles the sound was a lot worse and now cold sounds like an old diesel. -
Boot Light, a Quick Fix 23 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Was leaving the supermarket today and as i pass Hallfords to go home i thought I would call in and see how much the bulbs where and possibly fix it so in the car park of the supermarket to get the old bulb out i removed the plastic lens/bulb holder from the back of the boot and it came out completely unattached to any cabling. i was a little puzzled so poking my fingers in the hole that the holder sits in, i managed to pull out the cable and connector and connect up the bulb, and it works absolutely fine, i even tested that it goes out when the boot lid is shut by removing the parcel shelf and closing it and it does The car isn't throwing up any error messages ( bulb failure) and everything works as it should I think its been removed by the last owner (for reasons i cant think of) or its not been fitted when manufactured (i think unlikely) What do other Br's think, has anything similar happened to you? -
Chevrolet Cruze (2009 - ) - Another slant on the new Astra 9 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Apart perhaps from its slightly overdone front end, the Cruze is also quite bold and modern -looking. HJ reckons it is "a really good-looking car" and rates it decently. (and yes it's a saloon, but there's a hatch coming) I know it's a dangerous thing to compare LIST prices (especially with the availability of the likes of 12 month-old Astras at supermarket sites), but the cheapest Astra is £15675 for a 1.4 with 87 bhp. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 2.0 HDi: knocking & creaking from suspension 10 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest what could be making the noise. Is it serious or should I take the word of the various garages that have checked it. The car is just under 10 years old and has done 152,000 miles. It has been serviced at the manufacturer's interval of 12,000 miles and had any fixes that have been recommended. -
Land Rover Range Rover 'Classic' (1970 - 1995) - Considering buying one 14 May 2009 (Forum)
I'd always wanted one but was put off by the bad tales about the classic version. I thought about the more recent ones and checking the car by car for the more recent P38 was amazed by the 'appalling catalogue of build problems'. OK what about the L322. They must have sorted the problems surely. First thing I noticed is the prices from 58k-78k. -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 97 1.6 low constant noise at the front, dif? 3 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi there, i would like to hear an opinion different to what i have heard in the garage today as i got realy upset, my megane, end of 97yrs, has been threatened with a 900gbp bill. the car drives perfect and i absolutelly loving it, however this horrible noise appeared at the front , considered wheel bearing, have replaced one as per advise at garage. however noise didnt disappear, guys at the garage blamed faulty bearing and replaced it again under warranty, it obviosly didnt help. today i was told it is DIF which is making the noise and they have to take apart gear box, etc, rebuild everything which may increase total costs to 900gbp. i am not prepared to spend that much money on such an old car (just under 80000miles). two points, shall i drive until it dies and if its safe or shall i look for second oppinion. has anybody had simmilar problem? -

Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - good price? 20 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Despite some pushing and no part-ex, don't think I'll get more than, say, £200 off that price. I think it may be a bit expensive, especially as this is an old model now. But I do like the low mileage. I'm a bit reluctant to buy an ex-rental car, but it seems unlikely to be one with such a low mileage. What do you guys think? -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - Micra engine lifespan? 2 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I'm looking for a cheap one in a market that seems to be astonishingly competetive...been raking through the papers on the morning they come out, and most of the cars I phone up about are already sold. The rest are owned by mad old bats who can't tell me what size of engine is in their Fiesta! I'm drifting towards the Micra because of the chain-cam engines and general jap reliability/british build quality. -
