89 VW Golf II - Idle surging 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I don't notice any surging at speed on the road, or any lack of power, so my guess is that it isn't a plugged fuel filter. It's an American spec car as far as I can tell, as the speedometer is in MPH. So far I've changed the spark plugs and plug wires. I have a new distributor cap/rotor on order. -
FIAT Ulysse JTD - HELP please, Fiat JTD (HDI) non starting 9 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I have done the usual stuff with these modern cars - i had a mobile guy come out and scan the car for codes. here is the rather long list he got: P0201 P0202 P0203 P0204 P0121 P0221 P1138 P1108 He said that the top 4 refer to injector codes and said its looking like a fuel pressure problem (i could guess that since its not starting) i am looking at getting the HP pump changed and injectors as the LP pump does deliver diesel through to the filter - checked by the guy and you can hear it buzz under the car. -
Peugeot 407 2.0 HDi Diesel SW SV - Intermitent problem idles up and down on its own 1 Sep 2010 (Forum)

And while driving the car juddered like it was going to run out of fuel then when I got to the lights it stalled.. I cant take the car back and would appreciate some help as we dont have a lot of cash to get this fixed? Thanks very much.. -
Peugeot 306 1.9D - 1999 Peugeot 306 diesel pump replacement 16 Jul 2010 (Forum)
As I understand it, it's 'simply' a case of hold the sprocket in place with 2 bolts, undoing those three nuts that hold the pump in, disconnecting the fuel lines, changing the pump and refitting everything. Could anyone confirm? Also, I believe that any 1.9 XUD pump will do. Can I use one from a TD (remember, mine is not TD)? Would it be okay to swap it for a Bosch pump? -
Vauxhall Signum 1.9tdi (120bhp) - V'hall Signum - EGR valve - crystal balls anyone? 7 Jul 2010 (Forum)
So, two questions: Assuming the swirl actuator valve is the problem, would something like redex or using premium fuel lengthen its life? Should I cut and run, getting another car? The Signum was brought with 7k on the clock, in the knowledge it's a high depreciator (I got a lot of car for the money) my prefered intention is to run it for another 3 years putting a further 75k on the clock. -
Peugeot 306 HDI - Cutting out problem 18 May 2010 (Forum)
I've taken it to the garage and 3 weeks later he still doesn't know what it is. Its been on a diagnostic machine and the code is coming up is P1112 - Fuel Pressure Control, Permanent Fault. The mechanic put a new camshaft sensor which didn't work. I was just wondering if there was anyone that may have had a similar experience or may know what it could be that's causing this to cut out. -
Vectra C - diesel or petrol Vauxhall? 16 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Having spent a lot of time reading this forum on the problems of modern diesels I resolved to go for petrol. Then the price of fuel started to climb and I'm wondering if I know what to look for, and what to do in the way of preventative maintenance, I could avoid really damaging expense. So I'd value advice on the above and things like: 120 or 150hp CDTI engine: which trim would prove the most durable: should the oil change intervals be shortened, etc, etc. -
What are your habits? - Dipstick 13 Apr 2010 (Forum)
i`ve a tendency to like it right at the full mark and often this results in 8th inch or so overl. Must be a habit from the olden days - when it was like topping up the fuel tank - either that or it`s thinking an extra half coffee mug fof oil will give a bit of extra reserve - in the additive and suspension of particles dept.. I once overfilled the sump on a Yamaha R500 just outside Brussels and ground to a halt - oil clogging the jets in the carb, where it had entered up a breather. -
Which reliable and economical car under 3K 29 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I'm fairly certain I want another diesel after my current 1.9D Xantia which has been great (in terms of fuel) considering it cost 400 quid. I usually drive alone but often carry quite a bit of stuff so I don't want to go any smaller. I am 6'3" though so I need headroom - and the more upright the driving position the better as I do get back trouble sometimes. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 95 1.6 16v engine will not fire 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Went to start the car the next day and the engine will turn over but will not fire, on rare occasion it will fire and then conk out again after a second or 2. I have checked and there is fuel getting through, I have got a spark. We found one of the vacum pipes had broken off and have replaced that (have also called the AA out to try and start it and he tried all of the above and still doesnt know why it wont start) Have tried to bump start that car and it will still not fire Any one have an idea Thanks vp -
Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 07 2.0 Surging after running out of diesel 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Ever since then however the car has been surging unpredictably, even during relatively gentle acceleration. I assume there is still air in the fuel lines but that could be a faulty assumption & even if I'm right I'm not sure how to remove the air. Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed? Thanks in advance for any assistance! -

Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 00 2.5 Non Start 23 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi All, I have had starting problems with my Voyager (2.5 VM engine). 3 days ago I replaced the glow plugs, started instantly. 24 hours later wouldn't start and flattened the battery. Cracked injectors, lots of fuel. Jumped from other car span over and over for ages, plumes of smoke from exhaust, Unburnt diesel I guess, then for no reason eventually fired up. If used within a few hours, will start OK, leave it for 4-6 hours, same again NON START. -
Diesels falling apart 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Last month we had a Vectra 1.9 D (2005 or 6, can't remember) engine totally AWOL at 100k (it was a taxi) and a similar age Mondeo TDCI with broken up fuel pump at 60k. No wonder there are some cheap s/hand cars about. My little bit of advice to diesel owners - longlife servicing WRECKS your car. Current oil and filter technology is not up to 20k changes. -

Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - best place to buy car mats? 12 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I am basically happy with the car except for its slightly boring interior, handbrake on the left hand side, and apparently poor fuel economy (but having said that, I mainly do short journeys in London). Also being a dopey sod I didn't initially notice that the car had a no smoking sticker (and a few other stickers) inside the windscreen, so I'm guessing it's probably an ex-rental? -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.6 Auto - Died, now won't start 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I realize that this is totally vague and no-one is gonna give a prognosis based on this info, but I was just hoping for a few pointers of what it could possibly be (common faults etc) and what to check. Incidentally, our other car is a diesel. She says she is 80% sure she didn't put the wrong fuel in but she is a bit...dippy... Does it sound like this may be it, or is there any way to check? Cheers in advance Minski -
Modern Dash's, any need for the clutter? 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
s clear and well laid out, it just seems that everything is squashed together (warning/information lights on the dials them selves obscured by the needles) the smallest temp and fuel gauges and everything at the end of a tube, all in the name of design The fiat Bravo (Brava??) we had recently I could not see the top of the rev counter or speedo for these ?pipes? Am I been boring? -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - Getting an LPG conversion 7 Sep 2009 (Forum)
It's costing £1,650 for a multipoint conversion with a Flashlube and courtesy car included. I figure that I need to do it as I simply can't afford to fuel my car at current rates and I have no desire to buy a diesel as I love my smooth V6. So, come on then guys, what's the Backroom good for if not a bit of Doom-mongery? :-) (sp?) What should I be looking out for as it's been suggested to me before that a conversion will give me no end of grief?
