Shock absorber failure on Vectra C 1 Mar 2005 (Forum)
The n/s rear shock is covered in oil , whereas its counterpart on the other side is dry. Ok so that explains the noise - looks like I need a new shock but could you chaps let me have your opinion on these points? -

Bus Lane covert Cameras 30 Jun 2004 (Forum)
They got lost and mistakenly went down about 20 yards of a bus lane at about 21:00 hours and were caught on camera - NOT by the bog standard cameras you get on the road side that are coloured grey but a camera placed high up on a lamp post on the far side of the road judging by the picture they have sent me. Is this common practise now to use community s************s to catch motorist? This friend of the family does not ever intentionally drive in bus lanes when they are in force. Even I nearly got caught out Sunday as I travelling in a certain part of the country and the bus lane enforcement times changed several times within a short driving distance. -
HJ the Mondewoe has gone, run'g in car? 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The Mondewoe has gone, got £330 for it. The new car is a Nissan Primera 2.2 DCi S, not as basic as it first seems. I thought that as its FIRST service is at 12000 miles I would ask HJs advice on running in and oil changes. My own thoughts were change oil and filter at 2000 miles for a good mineral oil to the Nissan spec and then at 6000 change again to full synthetic for diesel engines with changes at 6000 after that. -
Mercedes CLS concept car goes production 23 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Due to the extremely positive public response garnered by the car when it was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the four-door CLS Coupe (that\'s what the new car will be called) will be built at the DaimlerChrysler factory in Sindelfingen. We\'re sure Mercedes\' decision to go ahead with the CLS would have something to do with the introduction of BMW\'s own large coupe, the 645 Ci. -
High redlines a fading trend? 5 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have a 2002 RSX (Integra) manual. It has 160BHP which generates 141 lb/ft of torque @ 4000 rpm. The Type-S version has 200BHP which generates 142 lb/ft of torque @ 6000 rpm! Please help me understand this. That means to get the extra 40HP in the S you have to rev each gear to 6000 and higher? I would much rather get all my torque down lower at the 4000 point. -
Which tyres for my Omega? 28 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Even a puncture on this model cant be straightforward. My local tyre man can get the following to suit my 2.5 petrol CD: (205/60's V rated or should they be 65's?) Goodyear Nct 5 @ £60, Continental eco contact @ £60 Firestone F700 @ £55 Mich MXV3 @ £67 Bridgestone ER30 @ £60 Vat is extra, but fitting, balancing etc included. I could say I am not too bothered about handling as it never works well enough to be driven properly, but seeing as I drive a lot on winding country lanes, thoughts on cornering abilities would be welcome. -
Smokey Car. Ford Laser (1992) 21 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I\'m tending to think that something is wrong in the motor... the oil is clean, no sludge so i\'m guessing it\'s not a welsh plug... could i have blown a gasket somewhere?? Please please someone out there be able to help me. I\'m semi mechanically minded and can carry out most minor repairs to my own car so i\'m praying this is something i can fix?? -

Motor Museums 25 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I'm wondering if it's the 1250 that later appeared in the various MG's? Big section of landrovers which was a waste of space - even series 1's can be seen on the road still and a Freelander is *not* noteworthy. Other lowlights were a Rover 213 Vitesse from the 90's (why?) and various other modern cars of little interest. Interesting to see significant space given to jet cars - didn't realise they were ever considered yet there was 20 years of work on them! -
Change of Car 4 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Hi I have just found out that my family is going to be getting larger in the spring and I therefore need to seriously think about changing my car, both to accommodate 'big mother' and little one when s/he arrives. I currently drive a mazda mx6, which I love driving. I reckon that my car is worth something in the region of 3,500 to 3,000. I can add up to 1,000 more, but that's about the limit. -
Family Car recommendations 23 May 2002 (Forum)
All a bit spooky though. This is now our main car. Mark 1 gathering dust and flat batteries in our garage. I am in my 40's, my wife is in her 30's and we have 2 kids 6 and 1.5 years old. My wife is expecting number 3 in July. Tried a double buggy but as expected it will not fit in the Golf 2 boot. Time to get a bigger car. -

Past quality 8 Feb 2022 (Forum)
I won’t own another but it got me thinking about other so-called prestige brands which sell an image of high quality built on their past products yet have lost their way, becoming known among those who know as unreliable and problematic as they pass beyond the original warranty term. In the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s you could buy a new Volvo and have confidence in it offering twenty years of service if you didn’t abuse it too much, ditto Mercedes products before the bean counters took over in the 90’s. -
