  • Vito W638 - Changed fuel filter and now engine doesn't start 29 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Hi, I am absolutely new to the mechanic world, but have been reading and learning a lot. Yesterday I changed the fuel filter of my Vito W638, and it didn't start anymore. I also disassembled the EGR to see how dirty it was, to discover it had a "plug" to make it not to work. I don't know if while changing the fuel filter some air entered in the system, or what happened, but I put again the old fuel filter, which worked.
  • Hyundai ix35 - Hyundai ix35 fuel filter issues in cold weather 24 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Are you aware of fuel filter issues in cold weather? My car (12 reg/25,000 miles) lost power and then came to an abrupt stop when driving in cold weather conditions (2 degrees C). The dealership advised that the fuel filter had clogged due to the diesel fuel used.
  • Ford Focus 2007 Zetec 1.6 Climate - noisy fuel pump 5 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I had a Meriva with a fuel pump that buzzed on start up , but this sounds different.  Car still starts fine--should I be concerned at this new sound? Cheers.
  • W2000 Citroen Berlingo 1.9D (DW8 engine) - Hard to start first thing. 31 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Got problems starting after being left overnight.Changed glow plugs and checked glow plug relay,no improvement. Now found that fuel is running back from fuel filter housing and once i manually prime the fuel system(using priming bulb)she starts instantly and is fine all day.Checked all connections for air leaks and can only see a small diesel leak and slight hissing on top of the bosch diesel pump by throttle arm.
  • Citroen C8 - 2.0Hdi poor fuel economy black smoke 21 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi all. I have a 2006 Citroen C8 2.0Hdi (NON-FAP) that has never returned fantastic fuel economy. It has always had an issue with black smoke on acceleration. I have blanked off the EGR valve at the inlet end and this has reduced the smoke slightly, although the fuel economy only ever returns 27-29mpg around town and on a long motorway journey never gets above 30mpg.
  • 04 vauxhall vectra 1.9 CDTI - fuel injector 3 fault 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
HELP! fuel emissions light is on, car not driving properly at all, shuddering is the best way to describe it! no power. took it to mechanic where it showed a problem with fuel injector 3. injectors have been removed and tested and they're fine!
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 TDI fuel pump reconditioning 1 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 1.8 1999 Focus TDi with a self diagnosed fuel pump problem. The car cut out and will no longer start. It turns over fine but is getting no fuel. I've done the obvious things and it would appear to be the fuel pump. As this is a major unit and usually mapped to the cars ecu / immobiliser I am enquiring about having the unit reconditioned.
  • Has Fuel Changed? 7 Nov 2008 (Forum)
My wife's Mondeo 2.0 Zetec has done exactly the same, it has dropped from 37 MPG to 34 MPG. Very odd as nothing else has changed apart from the price of fuel. No change to our journey patterns, no change to type of petrol or diesel used, or where we buy the fuel, yet both cars are using more fuel.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1994 1.9D Leaking Fuel From Throttle Shaft 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, I have recently found a fuel leak from the throttle shaft of my Lucas (yeah I know they're bad) diesel fuel injector pump. The throttle shaft moves up and down slightly if you pull and push it. I am guessing what ever was originally sealing it is not any more, and the idle speed of the engine changes when it is pulled or pushed.
  • Mondeo TDCi Fuel Filter 23 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Is it possible that the fuel filter change can cause this or is it more likely that something has been disturbed on the induction side with the air filter change?
  • Freelander fuel comsumption 22 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The rest would be relatively short journeys. I know these are not fuel efficient journeys, however this fill returned 23.5mpg. My usual is 26 to 27 and I have never exceeded 28.5mpg. I don't drive aggressively and actually try to drive conservatively. What Car lists this car in manual form as having a combined fuel consumption figure of 37.2mpg.
  • Tipo turbo diesel not starting>>> 20 May 2002 (Forum)
My 91 tipo turbo diesel wouldn't start today after running for about 3 hrs I came home for a while and when I went to leave it just spluttered for a while with no power then died. Have checked for fuel which is present engine side but there seems to be no suction from the fuel pump. I disconnectd the fuel hose which runs from the filter to the pump and turned engine but no suction. I tested the fuel solenoid and that is working fine even removed it just in case but still no fuel into the injectors.
  • Fuel Guage Accuracy 26 Mar 2002 (Forum)
As an experiment(with a full can in the boot) I once drove 40 miles with it telling me I was out of fuel before I chickened out and filled up. The older Beetles were best. You could look into the fuel tank and see the bottom of it. You could also drive until it spluttered and then turn the reserve tap on(situated inside the car) and you had exactly 5 litres left.
  • Supermarket fuel 15 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Is supermarket fuel truly any worse than the named brands? Given that it sells at the same price (remember the days when it was a bargain?) can we not believe that it is just the same? I ran my car solely on Tesco's for 1K miles, then 1K miles on Texaco only, and discerned no difference in peformance and 0.2 mpg on fuel economy (which may have been down to mix of driving).
  • Fuel Additives 19 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I've seen a few messages on the site about problems caused by Supermarket Fuel etc and wondered if anyone has any experience of Fuel Additives ? I've recently picked up a leaflet from Halfords for products from STP/Redex/Wynns/Slick that claim to clean Fuel systems and injectors.
  • 2.2 dci x-trail - deisel x-trail fuel pump problem sorted. 20 Aug 2011 (Forum)
i have found a cheap and reliable way of repairing my x-trail. the symtoms were as it would suddenly go into limp mode and i would turn off the ingition and back on again and it would be fine for another few miles until it done it again. a nissan dealer told me it wa about €2000 to replace the fuel pump and it would sort out the problem. i took out the fuel pump and i looked at it closely to see how it worked and what could go wrong. on the side of the fuel pump there is a silver switch in a barrel shape held on by two small bolts and this switch is a fuel pressure switch. i found a deisel switch supplier and the switch cost me €93. when i fitted the new switch it had to be programmed by a nissan computer and that cost me €25. the problem is cured and its never happened again in over 50000 kilometers. its a lot cheaper than a whole new pump at €2000.
  • Fuel consumption figures 16 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Intellectually satisfying to them, results in league-table positioning for their bosses, but of no consequence to the rest of us - apart from how the resulting VED hits our wallets. As official fuel consumptions have fallen dramatically, my own fuel consumption has risen. Funny that.
  • CAFÉ ? fuel economy 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Also, the oil companies certainly don?t want to sell less fuel when they are having such a good time. Instead, the industries and the unions have lobbied congress and succeeded in getting the government to change the method of calculating the fuel efficiency so that it doesn?
  • Volvo D5 Fuel problem 30 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I've now heard from the dealer who is unsure as to what the situation is. Basically I had problems starting, to the extent the car wouldn't start. They swapped the Fuel pump and gave the car back. It failed again after 1200 miles and a few days. Another fuel pump, and it still wont start, so now they've swapped the fuel injectors, and it appears OK and they want me to pick it up.
  • Faulty fuel computer in my Renault 19 18 Nov 2002 (Forum)
This is annoying as I have no other gauge. As before, the new part shows 0_1g as the fuel level, and the low fuel wawrning light is permanently on. The temperature function works fine and I have reset the computer. The 0_1g is also displayed on a working computer if the sender unit is not connected.
