  • Nissan Note - Incorrect mileage advertised. 27 May 2012 (Forum)
Motorpoint have told him to call back on Monday during office hours. I want to deal with this for him as he is old and can be easily put off by brash sales staff. He wants to keep the car but I think he should be entiteled to a partial refund, but not sure how much to expect. Any ideas? Thanks, Bruce.
  • Peugeot 306 1.4 Petrol 1997 Non Keypad - Immobiliser Problems?? 10 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Alarm is the type that is independent to immobiliser and this seems to work ok. Red LED in centre console flashes when trying to start car, but engine just turns over but does not try to fire which makes me think it is not the coil pack. Any ideas greatly appreciated as cannot afford main dealer prices for such an old car but apart from this she has beeen so reliable I would hate to put her prematurely in the big scrapyard in the sky!

  • Citroen Xantia Turbo Diesel 1.9l - Sealed-for-life battey 28 Jul 2010 (Forum)
A new (6 months old) battery twice failed to provide enough power to start the car when it was very hot.       The first time was when I had filled up after 2 hours of towing a caravan, - on a hot day.   Eventually battery recovered enough to start after disconnecting caravan electrics and waiting for 2 hours.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - Bringing Portuguese Corsa to UK 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hello My dad owns a Corsa (4 years old) which he bought in Portugal, and it's still in Portugal. It's all legal there (registered there, insured, taxed, mechanical test etc). He wishes to drive it back to the UK. If he was foreign, he could drive it in the UK for 6 months without a problem, but because he's English we understand he can't even drive it home from the port because an English citizen can't drive a foreign plated car in England.
  • Blame the parents / children 14 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Newish upmarket housing development, lots of new / nearly new cars and lots of young children and a few teenagers. An 18 year old drives about faster than desirable, so a neighbour has a word with the parents. The parents take umbrage at ?this interference? in their son?
  • Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.8 oil use/loss 29 Jun 2009 (Forum)

  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 00 2.8 Suspect blown head gasket 6 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I'm after a bit of advice if anyone can oblige. I was driving to work today when I heard a sharp cracking like noise from under the car, it sounded like a stone hitting the car but I was actually stationery at the time. Shortly after I noticed what appeared to be smoke coming from under the front end, on closer inspection it was steam and water was dripping from under the car.
  • Cause & effect - how stupid are some drivers? 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Car in front (10 year old Beamer) winds down passenger window and chucks a fag packet out about 100 yards behind council truck where their work had already been done. What is the matter with some people, can they not make a simple connection in their feeble brains?

  • Ford Puma (1997 - 2001) - Why are they all rusty? 18 May 2008 (Forum)
Such a shame that Ford didnt bother to think that the cars might be around after their anti-corrosion warranty ran out and built them properly in the first place because other than the corrosion they seem good reliable fun cars!
  • Hello? Can you hear me ?... Hands free suggestions 29 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Bluetooth "clip it on the visor" things..... also rubbish. The only thing which seems to consistantly ( sort of ) work is the old-fashioned earpiece-speaker-on-a-wire which jackplugs into the phone which I have mounted on a dash cradle. I know there are options to have built in systems but as I also travel abroad quite a lot and need to hire cars I would prefer one system which does everything.
  • Youths throwing rocks!! 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My fiancée was driving home the other afternoon on a semi-rural road and she was 2 minutes away from arriving home. She had my one year old son in the back and was going no faster than 30mph. As she passed three youths, who were aged around 13-14, one of them threw a large rock at her car. This rock smashed into the top of the near side wing and bounced across the bonnet.
  • Recommend possible new cars for my dad? 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My 75 year old dad currently drives a 2.0 hdi Y Reg Peugeot 806. He is having problems with it that I will be posting in Technical shortly but I can see this ultimately leading to him having to change the car. He currently tows a caravan that he would like to continue towing but may accept that his towing days are behind him (he also has a static caravan on a site).
  • Ford StreetKa (2003 - ) - Overheating warning and erratic fuel gauge 5 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I am assuming, maybe incorrectly, that the overheating warning is false. Certainly, there are no signs as mentioned earlier. The car has done 35,000 miles, and has the original coolant in it at the right concentration and the right level in the tank. My best guess is a good old fashioned earthing fault, but with the unusual places electronics are employed in new cars, who knows?

  • Mitsubishi FTO...Wow! 21 Sep 2007 (Forum)
is this the best kept secret in motoring fun? My brother drove up to see me last week in his new (new to him) 9 year old Mitsubishi FTO sports car. He has bought yet another shed thinks I. What an incredible machine it turned out to be. 2.0, V6, 24 valve DOHC, pocket rocket, 2+ (useful) 2, with all the bells and whistles, for under £3,000!
  • 205 GTI 1.9 Plagued with problems 16 May 2007 (Forum)
Honest John forum, I have a huge problem! I have just purchased a 205 GTI 1.9. Its only got 72k on the clock with old MOT's to prove it. Its just plagued with lots of faults. List: 1) electrical problem. NO reverse lights, brake lights (i think they are the wrong bulbs) and when you press the brake when car is off, the off side side light comes on. also when the lights are on (side only) and the car is off. the whole dash instrument panel lights up like a x-mas tree. all gauges read. 2) exhurst spits gases out. petrol and oil smell. 3) engine rattel when at standing and you push the gas pedal (rev the engine).
