  • BMW 3 series diesel MPG 30 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Its now done 3000 miles and although going better, and I have run it in along HJ's suggestions, the MPG is little different. It seems to average out at 41-42 in normal driving around. This is a mix with very little town driving, mostly runs of 15-40 miles in the country. On a long trip to Scotland and back at New Year it managed 44 MPG. My friend has a VW Bora 115 BHP that cannot be made to go under 50 MPG however it's driven.
  • Not looking forward to M-Way trip 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Tomorrow, I am driving down from Lanarkshire to Stafford, and back up on Sunday. Approx 250 miles each way. Although I got my new Scenic in July, I have yet to take it on a lengthy journey like this so was looking forward to a good "drive", seeing how the 6 gear box was on long journey etc etc.
  • Directions to East London please 20 Nov 2004 (Forum)
As i see it, my options are: 1 - around the M25 clockwise and in 2 - around the north circular 3 - around the M25 anti clockwise, up to Greenwich and through the Blackwall Tunnel. 4 - Train, tube etc. Of the driving options, 3 seems the least worst to me as i used to drive to Greenwich fairly regularly and it favours towards A303 / M3, a route that i prefer (i find the M4 sooo boring). I am after ease of route, and am prepared to spend slightly longer behind the wheel in return for ease and certainty of time.
  • New Headlights 6 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Despite this, I have decided to change both sidelight bulbs and the headlight bulbs. Now. I saw a Mondeo MK2 drive past this morning when it was dark and it had almost Xenon type looking headlights - bright white - the entire road ahead of it looked, almost like daylight. They weren't given the age of the car but after seeing them, I did a search on t'internet.
  • Audi A6 MMI 2 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The only one I have had any success with is Nissan's N-Form - which seems to work reasonably well. The Audi effort is awful, and IMHO borders on being a driving harzard since doing something simple (e.g. trying to play a CD) is inordinately involved and hence distracting. I guess the engineers like to demonstrate their prowess by developing these systems - but from a ergonomics point of view a simple set of buttons - which each one performing just one funtion - is much easier and safer to use when driving.
  • Mondeo dimly-lit battery light 14 May 2004 (Forum)
Dear all; Wonder if any of the BR intellect can help me get to the bottom of this/ My 1999 Mondeo has the battery light dimly lit. The problem first appeared ahen my wife was driving the car at night on the long m-way journey. She stopped and called the RAC, but (Sod's law) the problem had cured itself by the time the patrol arrived. He checked the battery, charge voltage and belts and reported all appeared well.
  • Seat Toledo Rattle 25 Apr 2004 (Forum)
We run a Seat Toledo TDI W reg. When driving along, especially over light bumps in road, theres a persistant and annoying rattle coming from from drivers side corner of car. If you aim a kick at the drivers front wheel, you can hear a sort of metallic rattle coming from the front hub area.
  • Vauxhall Astra Heater 11 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Admittedly I am driving 80 miles a day round trip & the car is old but it was serviced 3k miles ago. Any one with any clues? Otherwise I'm off for another expensive mecahnics bill :( thanks -F-
  • Checking Up on Us 8 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Musing to myself driving home last night (as one does) I got to thinking about what checks are made on us as drivers. During the last week I recon that my speed has been checked on around sixty occasions by static cameras, on at least two occasions by mobile cameras and I have been stopped at a routine road block to check my tax disc.
  • Speed Bump Humour 3 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Nip 'N Tuck. Driving between widely spaced humps. What Hump? Usually heard inside large offroaders transporting offspring to an from educational establishments. Hump Master. approaching and clearing the humps as fast as you dare to get the agonising clunk, bang ooohh over with.
  • Tyres for an S280 Mercedes 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I'm told by everyone, including Honest John that the S-Class wears tyres very quickly, especially on the front. Typically 6,000, 9,000 or 12,000 miles depending on who you ask and how you drive of course. I drive like I'm on a Sunday jaunt. Apparently. ;) Which ones do folk recommend? They are 245/60 somethings so not the cheapest in the first place. In the past I've found myself changing tyres on my old 190E because of things other than general wear (rips, tears, bulges, cracking etc) and so I'm not always sure about spending X% more on a tyre that lasts x% miles longer.
  • Speeder Jailed for 3 Months 11 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The speed limit was 70 mph. Cunningham was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday of dangerous driving and jailed. He also was banned from driving for three years, meaning it could be difficult for him to do his job if he returns to work as a policeman. ------------------------------ To me the sentence is just downright offensive when we have people commiting crimes that actually have victims getting away with community service or, in a lot of cases, a whole lot less.
  • Keeping Calm on the Road 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
God driving is so stressful nowadays. What can I do to calm down. I fear the risks I take to pass some of these escargots will go wrong at some point. Perhaps motoring is too cheap? Sorry for rambling. Didn't start off that way.
  • Frosty morons 18 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Still can't believe people are stoopid enough to drive with the rear window completely frosted up, both rear side windows frosted, passenger window frosted, windscreen frosted - with a small 'seal' hole scraped from which to peer through, and most of the drivers window frosted.
  • Tried to follow HJ's advice... 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Like when my mam goes to the supermarket for milk and bread and comes back with enough stuff to feed a small country... The car's a scream to drive though, very quick, really nice seats that grip you securely, and when I realised that I'd over done it on the approach to a roundabout during the test drive, I pressed the brakes and the car practically stood on it's front end!
  • Saab 9-3 Diesel vibration 8 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I would be happy to pay for any modification that would eliminate this vibration. Other than the vibration this is an excellent car to drive. I also drive a pool car at work that is a Passat 130 Diesel and there is no vibration felt inside this car.
  • ABS and slippery roads..and more 9 Aug 2002 (Forum)
He also goes on to say...boy I like this part!.....that BMW's and other fancy (sic) brands encourage bad driving because they are advertised as superior and safer cars. .....this is too good not to share, so I now stand back.....
  • Jazz Test Drive 28 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Because I've nearly lost all hope of getting a Yaris D-4D, today I test drove the New Honda Jazz. It's a nice little car, but the biggest problems I found...
  • Vauxhall Ecotec 12 Feb 2002 (Forum)
The car is used seven days a week mostly on journeys of at least 15 miles which include a mixture of town, dual carriageway and very steep hills - and I dont drive it for economy! The temperature gauge seems to show normal working temperature. Has anyone else suffered from this?
  • Running in a new yaris 1 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Firstly, apologies if this is covering old ground again: SWMBO's younger sister has just been bought a new Yaris GLS for her 17th and is currently learning to drive in it. The car cannot have done more than about 150 miles at the mo. My personal feeling is that it would be best to get the car run-in decently before letting her loose with it, certainly I can't imagine that being run in by 600 miles of low-speed, overly jerky, learner-driver standard driving will be doing the car any favours.
