Help! Astra Twintop 1.9CDTi or Megane CC dCi150? 26 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Slightly wider inside, but seems to have a slightly higher rear sill so visibility not quite as good as the Twintop. I used to have Renaults a long time ago and remember spongy gearboxes, prone to electric faults and expensive servicing. It's really too close to call and SWMBO is being no help at all! Any suggestions? Thanks -
Megane 1.9dci cutting out 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have a 2001 'Y Reg' Megane 1.9dci, 70k on the clock, previous owner had regular Renault dealer services, I've had it since 64k , in Sept 06 had a full serive & cam belt replaced at 68k. It has been running fine until last week the engine cut out at 50mph, the coil warning light came on & I stopped the car turned off the ignition & it restarted okay & I drove the rest of the way home okay. -
99 Laguna Category D write off - avoid? 29 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I have seen a 1999 Renault Laguna RT 1.9 TD estate on ebay that looks absolutely mint. It has only covered 54,000 miles from new, with no service history unfortunately but all previous MOT's to substantiate the mileage. I have spoken to the vendor, who seems genuine enough, and he has a good, albeit low, feedback score. -
How much do I sell this for? 18 May 2006 (Forum)
Ive just agreed to buy an ultra low mileage Renault Clio off one of my customers ( im a valeter ) but i have no idea of its true worth. Ive offered her £350 for it because it doesnt have MOT or Tax and has been sitting in her garage for 6 months and only got started up when I came round to clean her car. -
Clio Drum Brake Judder - can it be true? 6 May 2006 (Forum)
Renault Clio '99 model (mk2) OK, After a leaking master cylinder was replaced there has been a lot of judder on the rear nearside brake drum that you can feel at the pedal. BTW: its definitely nothing to do with the disks at the front because you feel it just the same when you use the hand brake to slow the car. -
price changes, place for good advice 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
We used an online broker and their website contained really good buying tips which I've not seen bettered elsewhere - they are on the ball when it comes to knowing which manufacturer's were about to alter pricing (eg they told me VW had a price increase on 1st Jan and Renault 4th Jan). Maybe they've got an "inside line" into the car pricing gods. I don't usually recommend anything but am doing this time as they were very clued up and, unlike some of the other internet floggers we tried, they were bang up to date on everything and they weren't advertising old registered stock as "new" like some of them do. -
Fast cars - why bother? 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The recent thread about Keith S wanting to know what the CAP value of his Renault Megane 225 was reminded me of my enjoyable test drive of this model a few months back. However on Sunday I drove from Bath to Hereford, taking the A466 from Chepstow northwards. This used to be one of my favorite roads, being not too busy and having an enjoyable variety of tight bends and straights. -
Japanese weaklings? 27 Nov 2005 (Forum)
After all the Almera is bigger in size and perhaps more sturdier, but I was proven otherwise! After all German cars are supposed to be extra sturdily built, Renault cars are mostly 5 star NCAP and Volvos are said to be built like trucks and are supposed to be extra tough! In buying a Japanese car, are we sacrificing safety for reliability and good performance?? -
1993 CLIO Diesel-Head Gasket gone? 3 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I do only want to do this job once so if I must do it that way then I will! Any other jobs worth doing at the same time? And finally, just a comment. Are Renault incapable of building an engine that doesn't blow a gasket? I did 140,000 on my fiesta that never had ANY major work done on it! PS Is it worthwhile looking at another gasket supplier? Sorry for the long post, thank you in anticipation of your replies! -
Bye Bye Bullitt 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
This will be a totally uninteresting post to anyone who exults in the possession of one of those Renault thingies but marks an event I felt shouldn't go unrecorded in the long history of American cars I've owned.I refer to the '69 Mustang 351 which Growlette calls(ed) "Dat Smelly One". It has now been sold to an American retiree and I expect to see it at drag races on Sundays at Clark Air Base. -
Hatch wiring problems, Savanna 14 May 2005 (Forum)
I?ve got a Renault Savanna. On the boot hatch there are 11 cables plus the hose for the rear window washer, which pass from the harness inside the car body into the boot hatch door. All this is housed in a rubber ?boot? -
Why Not Signum? 4 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Ford and VW seem to do its top-end range plastics better than Vauxhall/Opel at the moment, and the X-type or C class are undoubtedly smarter but apart from that, what a bargain! And, no, I'm not a GM dealer!! I would write much the same about the Vel Satis from Renault but I hear that's no fun at all to drive. -
classic car insurance abroad 6 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Problem is, over here classic insurance seems to be dirt cheap but all you get is the equivalent of third party cover and no agreed valuation. Presumably the old car fraternity over here only take their little Simcas and Renault 8s to village fetes on Sundays. If you ask for comprehensive (own damage) cover the price is immediately comparable with an ordinary policy, which gets pricey if it's for something like a Jaguar. -
free insurance or not? 19 Dec 2002 (Forum)
doesn't fit in to barbie world now...and it is Christmas So it seems that best deal is to go for one of those 12 month free insurance offers with VW or Renault, but knowing the 'going south' residuals for anything resembling garlic, I am erring on the sauerkraut side of things.. So how about a 1.2 Polo for £7,995 or lower if I can find one, they seem to have reasonable rates @ 6.5% Does anyone reckon I can knock a dealer for more, even if they are throwing in the free insurance?? -
Golfs worth this much? 25 Feb 2002 (Forum)
May '99 VW Golf TDi 110 49K miles £9275 April '99 VW Golf TDi 110 52K miles £9275 April '99 Toyota Avensis 2.0 GLS estate 55K miles £6300 April '99 Renault Laguna 1.8RT Sport estate 47K miles £5850 April '99 Honda Aerodeck 1.6ES 55K miles £5650 April '99 Passat 1.8S 51K miles £5575 Now I know that Golfs are well thought of by the trade, but it's a huge difference to the 1.8 Passat; to my mind the Passat has more presence and better comfort than the diesel Golf, and the economy isn't that far distant from the 44 MPG that the Golfs seem to do. -
New Astra, any Problems?? 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I'm taking delivery of a brand new (new shape) Astra. 1.6 SXI Has anybody had any problems that could have been avoided with a bit of pre-warning. eg reading in Honest Johns column that the Renault Scenics have their Air Con pumps near the front skirt vents, ie right in line for flying stones to smash the casing. Someone rectified this by putting mesh at the rear of the vent. You get my drift?? -
Underpowered Motas vs Kyoto 15 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I've just has the "pleasure" of a new Renault Laguna to drive approx 1000 miles over the past 3 days. Trouble is, Fiona in purchasing hired me a 1.6 16V. In a car of that size and with the air con and all the toys - it drove like an absolute dog and drank fuel like G.Lacey on the Natch last Saturday night after Somerset had pulled the rug out from under Warwickshire CCC!! -
