  • Crash Scene Investigation 30 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Not a bad programme from the ITV stable, spoilt by three ad breaks and a lengthy 'still to come...' section at the end of each part, so an hour becomes about 40 minutes of programme meaning too little time to cover 2 incidents properly. One crash was on Torquay front - 72 in a 30 resulting in car hitting a tree and seriously injuring a passenger, second was on A38, out of control flipping over killing 17 year old passenger. It went some way to explaining why motorways are shut for so long - gathering evidence takes hours and this can be vital as passengers of vehicles lie and witnesses cannot be relied upon.
  • KIA Pride (1991 - 2000) - slow clock 10 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I've got an old ('95) Kia pride, and the clock keeps losing 'chunks' of time. It's fine while it's being used, but park it up for a few days, and the clock's probably 'lost' a couple of hours. I'm wondering if it's a low voltage problem.
  • Fiat's Bizarre Warranty Fix 13 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I have a 2 year old Fiat Panda 4x4 with a small problem. Water leaks into one of the headlamps due to a faulty seal on the back panel. How do I know that? Well, I have examined the seal and it clearly fails to make contact at one point.
  • Y reg E Class v 55 reg Signum? 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I prefer what I see as the added security of a main dealer purchase and am prepared to sacrifice a bit of fuel ecomonomy (will accept high 30's mpg) for a little added performance My heart says go for a 5/6 year old E Class of 5 Series. My head says go for an unloved car with high depreciation, say 9-5, Signum, Mondeo. Detached opinion's appreciated.
  • Vectra C noisy tappets on idle 31 May 2007 (Forum)
Oil is on the max level (and checked it according to manf.specs i.e get it to temp then turn off and wait 5 mins then dip/check).It doesn't use any oil that I can see. Performance etc is unchanged from when I got the car in July 04. Any advice/comments gratefully received! Thanks
  • Vectra-C Dashboard Access 23 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I've recently bought an early (52) new shape Vectra. It has an old Nokia kit in that fits neither my phone nor a pop-port adapter, so I need a new cradle and to get it plugged in. The cable goes into the dash through the 'bits' tray beneath the heater controls. The tray pops out easy enough, but I think I need to remove at least the panel with the heater controls, if not the stereo too in order to gain access to the Car-Kit control box.
  • Ford Mondeo Gearbox 27 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Morning All, I have an 02 Mondeo 2.0 which had a new gearbox fitted at the beginning of this year after the old one destroyed itself. My local garage did a good job and I have no doubt about their workwanship, but soon after it was done it became harder to get into 1st and 2nd gear and occasionally 4th. It is more obvious when cold, but is still there when the engine is up to temp.
  • Ford Focus/C-max radiator blocking 19 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I was staggered to read that they found 1/3 of the radiator core was blocked (presumbaly with scale and corrosion). This is really really poor on a car that it less than three years old. I would imagine that the coolant had been Fords OAT (10 year life) stuff. It sounds to me that either there is an incompaticbility between the coolant and material in the engine/cooling system, or substandard materials are being used.
  • 1992 Merc 230CE 11 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The PS resevoir is up to the "full" mark, has never leaked or anything - although the fluid itself is rather murky (and not the pink/red colour you would expect to see). Can anyone tell me what fluid the Benz takes ? Most other cars take auto-trans-fluid, but I'm not sure about the Merc. I'm going to bleed the old fluid out and try some new fluid before opting for a new pump. • What's going on at Ebay? 27 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Just had a quick look at Ebay classic cars, to keep the old appetite whetted, and the first thing I saw was a Mercedes 190 roadster, with a detailed service history etc, probably worth at least 25 grand of anyone's money if it's real. 10 hours to go, an asking price of 3,750 pounds and contact by private email only.
  • Citroen Berlingo Service Indicator 12 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It is coming up to a year old which is probably why the indicator is on despite the mileage but I'll be changing it's oil tomorrow and don't plan on getting a dealer service to honour the warranty for a few thousand miles unless I have to.
  • coolant loss Volvo V70 tdi 14 May 2006 (Forum)
We have a 99 V70 tdi (the old vw 5 cylinder diesel). We keep getting coolant loss, but its irregular. The car will be fine for ages then suddenly lose maybe a pint of coolant. There are no obvious leaks anywhere. hoses seem OK.
  • Driving Instructors 13 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I ask because I am increasingly coming across drivers who appear to think that they are the sole users of the road; namely, failure to use direction indicators even when turning right across oncoming traffic, failure to make proper (or any) use of headlights in poor visibility or at night and complete disregard for convention when using roundabouts. There have always been the odd madman and silly old flatcap to contend with but I am seeing far more sloppy driving than I used to. Instructing novices should entail more than the mechanics of car control. If you don't already, why not suggest to your learners that they read the Highway Code once a year?
  • Non-fault accident 3 Apr 2006 (Forum)
We have a witness, and I don't think the other driver will claim. He was around 26 years old, but obviously being his fault he should. He is very interested in his NCD, but my mind is set that if there is a blind bend, you take caution. He didn't, and there was little my dad could do. What would be the next step?
  • Astra airconditioning problem 26 Feb 2006 (Forum)
What else could be wrong with the aircon system? Aircon was re-gassed last May at different garage no leaks detected first re-gas since new car now 6 years old in August. Suspect I have not been using the aircon enough throughout winter months which has cause the seals to dry out but possible been leaking before last re-gas because not been getting cold for a few months.
  • Cold weather and Audi Multitronic auto 11 Feb 2006 (Forum)
New A6's have been upgraded to 163bhp so the problem is resolved. Not so for the "old" (2002) ones like mine. Audi have been courteous and efficient, declare it as known problem, but say they cannot fix it. Any suggestions? It was minus 2 centigrade this morning....great start to the day!
  • Vauxhall Network Q Warranty 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I don't wish to shell out for this if there is the potential for Network Q to 'duck out' of any claims. The car does come with a 2nd and 3rd year dealer warranty anyway. I look forward to hearing from anyone with experience of Network Q warranties. I have 4 weeks to do this so do not respond after 1 Mar 2006!
  • How long should alloy wheels last....? 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My 4 year-old Passat was factory-fitted with VW "Donnington" alloys. These are 14-spoke split-rim jobs and the rim is seriously discoloured due to, or accompanied by, blistering of the lacquer. I also discovered today that one of the wheels, where I've had what I assumed was a slow puncture for a few months, is actually corroded on the inside such that the airtight seal failed.
  • cheap fuel 28 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Koch said the cadaver of a fully grown cat can produce 2.5 litres of fuel - meaning around 20 cats are needed for a full tank. He said: "I tank my car with my own diesel mixture and have driven it for 105,000 miles without any problems." Annelise Krauss of the Dresden Animal Protection Association blasted Koch's new diesel though, saying: "This is as bad as experimenting on animals."
  • Hatchback with best ride quality? 17 Aug 2005 (Forum)
My main priority is a cosseting ride quality. I'm not too bothered if it comes as a trade off for less sharp handling. My previous car was a 1998 Fiesta 1.25 which combined both qualities of supple ride and nimbleness excellently but I am looking for something more spacious. I've drawn up a shortlist comprising 306, Xsara (cheaper) and old shape Megane (cheaper but reliable?)
