  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 47 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
However, it strikes me that one of the issues here is the whole fast car culture. Compulsory speedlimiters would remove a lot of the appeal of cars like the one Naseem was driving.
  • Test Drive Magazine - goodbye 5 Sep 2006 (Forum)
There was a motoring pubication thread here a short time ago which remembered passed titles and I remember the demise of 'Buying Cars' - a mag that I enjoyed enormously at the time. I always likened Test Drive to that genre in style if not true spirit. What Car ? it is then ! Ian
  • Insurance for Mum and Sister 31 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Does anyone have any ideas who to try for this combination? A bit of detail in case it helps - my sister drives but hasn't yet passed her test. However, in September she will be going to Uni so there's a big push to get her driving properly by then. The car's in Mum's name but I imagine they'd probably drive the car equally when they pass.
  • How Does One use an Automatic Gearbox? 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
As this is his first ever auto, and as I have never had an Auto I have been asked by him to ask how does one drive an Automatic car properly. Obviously N is for Neutral R for reverse D for Drive 1 and 2???? I dont know what they are for! Questions is on a motorway or speeds above say 60mph which gear does noe use.
  • The best Driving jobs 11 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I'm considering getting a second job, my criteria are as follows: Flexible working - i.e. evenings and weekends, being able to work extra/less hours at short notice Money - doesn't have to be big bucks, just looking to top up my main income Car - I'm happy to use my own, or buy a suitable car The future - I'm fed up with my current job so I may switch to doing it full time Training - happy to take AIM tests etc. I'm considering - fast food delivery, taxi and driving instructor. Not considering anything HGV related. If anyone here has any experiance of these jobs they can share then I would be very grateful, any other suggestions also welcomed.
  • Picasso alternatives? 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Hello, Yesterday we went for a test drive in a Picasso 1.6HDi 110BHP at the local dealer. I loved it. Engine was easily strong enough (3up + baby) and very quiet for a diesel. Nice to drive, boot is massive, lots of cubby holes. Job done I thought, except after 30mins my wife said her back ached a bit.
  • superb driving 1 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I found myself on a national express coach recently and feel i must congratulate the driver who avoided an accident with his forward thinking, a car on the roundabout we were joining(in a free flow lane) had not seen the coach and we sat in his blind sot as he began to drift into the free flow lane, the coach was faced with two options, 1, let the little honda civic drift into the coach and learn some physics, or 2, switch lanes quickly and smoothly, he chose the latter, with no horn blowing or anger, in fact he afforded a small smile ( self praise methinks) anyway, just thought i would drop that in, antone got any other tales of good driving? this forum talks a lot of bad drivers, lets here some hapy tales!"!!!!!! • Is Optimax really necessary? 1 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Is it necessary for Car 1 and vital for Car 2? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • M25 Jct 5 to Jct 9 Whats going on??? 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Every day at 3:00PM some idiot has run into the back of someone else and the reulting choas has resulted in a 2.5 hour drive home instead of the usual 1 hour. Why do people drive so frigging close to the car in front...It drives me mad. You have all seen them on the hard shoulder exchanging details as we crawl past them having spent nearly 3 hours in the hold up they have caused.
  • Golf GTi 16v Mk3- gearbox problems 29 Dec 2004 (Forum)
just purchased a golf GTI 1995 2.0 16v from an auction. bought bilnd and it has its share of problems= could anyone make suggestions before i book in for work or put it back through auction.... Gearbox- at first driving seemed ok but 15 mins into drive home found i couldn't find 5th and then all of the gears seemed to be out of place, it was as if the whole box had shifted 3inches to the right ?? left it in drive for a day and it seemed back to normal but there is obviously something not right- could it be mounting or linkage or is it likely to be internally screwed?
  • The best fun in a tin can 27 Oct 2004 (Forum)
In fact given the size of the car, I can't complain about the ride really; its not that bad given the matchbox length of the wheelbase. Just goes to show that you can enjoy driving without breaking speed limits. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • VAG DSG Auto gearbox and hill starts 8 Jul 2004 (Forum)
As I understand it, you have two peddles, brake and throttle, and then control gears with levers around the wheel. Now you can drive in automatic, or use up and down gear shifting. My question is, have people enjoyed driving this way, without the clutch peddle, and also, how do you do a hill start. Do you balance the handbrake and throttle?
  • Selling an unroadworthy vehicle 22 Jun 2004 (Forum)
http://www.car-crime.com/roadworthy.htm The bit that intrigued me was the bit about not letting anybody drive an unroadworthy vehicle away. '[when selling an unroadworthy vehicle] DO NOT allow the buyer to drive away an unroadworthy vehicle. Insist that they provide transport to carry the vehicle away or deliver it to them on a trailer/transporter.'
  • Long driving history, no NCD, expensive 1 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Are there any companies that will recognise my NCD from 3.5 years ago. It seems that because I've broken a wing mirror, that the previous 10 years of accident free driving don't count, which to me seems ridiculous.
  • change of life (male - late) 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Anyone changed their car, and as result, found it changed the driver? After over 20 yrs' driving autos, latter 2 yrs with a Lexus 200 auto, I have managed to find what I'm told is fairly rare 5 door A3 quattro turbo diesel sport, 6-speed, and suddenly I am "driving" again! From being cossetted in a comfortable small limo with rather gutless performance, I'm now rejuvenated (at age 61) by the A3.
  • What is it with Alfa? 18 Feb 2004 (Forum)
My mate in Luxembourg has one he bought to impress his new Russian wife and says it spends all kinds of time in the shop mainly for niggling faults, but it's lovely to drive, that is when he gets to drive it. Why hasn't Alfa recognised this and long ago married their flair for design with some Far East resource who knows how to make things that work right day in day out (Toshiba videos, Sony cordless phones, yada yada etc)?
  • Astra drive/fan belt change 1 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The drive/fan belt on my Astra 1.4(power stearing) is looking very worn. Friendly machanic said "Easy to change levering up the pulley with a 15mm spanner." Off I went yesterday and bought the belt. Today had to buy a 15 mm spanner since it is a odd size and not in my cheap selection of spanners and sockets.
  • Respect for Van Drivers 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have been driving a company transit for about 4 days now, and now have much more respect for drivers of vans and HGV's. Although driving a transit is nothing like driving a HGV I have come to realise what these people go through every day.
  • Student Cars 2 Nov 2003 (Forum)
But the survey, which eight universities took part in, also found that 14% of students considered driving a poorly maintained car more dangerous than driving under the influence of alcohol. And they rated driving while using a mobile phone as the least dangerous. Tom Dunn, managing director of the motor servicing company, said: "These results are a cause for grave concern.
  • Dangerous driving 18 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I have seen some really bad driving in my time but today was the worst yet. Busy Saturady afternoon. Two lanes of traffic coming up to a roundabout, backed up by about 10 - 15 cars. A white Vauxhall Nova, which looked like it had crashed into Halfords and all the bits had stuck on, with two lads with baseball caps on back to front and big puffa jackets came up the outside against the opposing traffic.
