Insurance for Mum and Sister - Adam {P}
Does anyone have any ideas who to try for this combination?

A bit of detail in case it helps - my sister drives but hasn't yet passed her test. However, in September she will be going to Uni so there's a big push to get her driving properly by then. The car's in Mum's name but I imagine they'd probably drive the car equally when they pass.

The company I'm with insured them last year but are taking the mick this time round. The renewal is ton more despite Mum getting another year's no claims and both people (obviously) being a year older. I've trried the obvious girly ones but with the ridiculous quotes they're clearly not too fussed about our business.

Any help would be much appreciated. Need to beat 600 quid if possible.

Thanks.

Adam

What group is the car?

For almost any car £600 doesn't sound too bad (with an 18yr old learner). Try Liverpool Victoria/Frizzell (use the What Car link if you can't get any other sort of discount).

CIS (Co-op) used to be good, but we switched awat from them a couple of yrs ago.

I'm unsure what group the car is to be honest. I seem to remember mine being 6E meaning it was higher for younger people and Mum's car is essentially the facelifted version of mine. The thing is, it was 500 quid last year and no-ones crashed. That's what's really annoying. The renewal quote had the wrong ages for both Mum and Amy on it. So we rang up before and corrected the ages and asked if that made any difference to the quote because they were older. No. They said if we paid it all in one go, they could knock 7 quid off. They're like this with me every single year. Sending ridiculous renewals and me needing to fight on the phone to get tiny amounts knocked off. At least as soon as I'm 21, some more shoudl open up to me.

Mum works for an LEA so apparently Frizzell might be of some use but their sites don't work on a Sunday so I'll have to try them tomorrow.

Thanks for the help,

Adam

Try doing on online quote with the company they're with now, as if they are new customers.

Frizzell's discounts are usually for union members - there's a drop down list on their home page.

Hastings is regarded as being good for this type of insurance cover.

PS

You can get TPFT with any driver cover which may help to reduce the cost a bit.

£600 sounds pretty good with an 18 year old learner actually (assuming that's fully comp)! My quote isn't far below that on Polo and that's with 25 year old me with 3 years no claims and the 28 year old other half as named driver.

Have you tried going through a broker? The one I used when I was younger seemed to have access to deals that I wasn't finding by ringing around.

Actually just realised I've got four years no claims now - how time flies!

Thanks for all the advice folks. It needs to be done by Friday so I'll let you know how I get on.

(This is for third party only cover by the way).

As pologirl says , a local broker may offer a better deal rather than online, in a case like this adam.

Cheers Oldy - I'll ring around tomorrow.

FWIW daughter #1 passed a year ago, and in Feb this year I got her 2nd year's insurance down to £430 TPFT on a Punto 55 (gp 3), using confused.com. I thought it unlikely that a broker could better that.
