Advice please on best car to go for 4 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi I wonder if anyone can help, we desperately need to change our car as the fuel efficiency is quite dire (chrysler grand voyager) and have been thinking of taking advantage of the scrappage scheme namely for a Toyota Yaris. However as this will have to be financed on a PCP scheme with quite a large final payment we are wondering if we may be better off with buying a second hand car, saving money is a top priority. -
Free Tickets to Santa Pod Flame & Thunder Day 4 Nov 2009 (Forum)
As with all SantaPod events, you can openly walk around the pit area and see the mechanics stripping down the engines and working on the cars & bikes. If you want a real buzz, then stand right next to a Top fuel dragster as they start it up in the pits and then wait for them to squirt in a bit of nitromethane and blip the throttle. You literally get blown off your feet, not to mention your eyes will start streaming with the smell of the fuel. -

Peugeot 407 (2004 - ) - 04 2.0 HDI Pump replacement for 407 25 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi Peugeot 407 SV Hdi Just wondered if anyone can help or advise. I am not extremely technical so bear with me. A few week ago I had what appeared like a fuel starvation problem (erratic response) and a warning on my car - "Depollution system faulty". I took this to my PUG dealer who said it required a new high pressure pump which would cost over £600. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2004 1.8 TDCi 35-40 MPG on run?? Please help 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, I've bought a Ford Focus sport 115 bhp 04 plate a few months back. Its now done 90k and since I bought it in December it has yet to impress me with fuel consumption. The car's had a full service, and has been driven easily with a mixture of town and motorway. Today I have done 430 miles on full tank 60 -70 mph all the way and it needs fuel again!! I think there might be a leak of sorts from underneath but only noticed wet patches underneath very occasionally. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 2002 2.0 hdi running problems 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Got it recovered to local independant garage where they started with a process of elimination, ie changing the fuel filter & the low pressure pump in the tank, (got it started and idling but still would cut out when driven).Engine management light came on. Put it on diagnostic and said low fuel pressure and proceeded to replace high pressure pump. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1997 1.9TD Terrible Starter 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Now confession time........approximately four months ago I started using veggie oil (around 5/6 litres per tankful) and the car continued to run normally. About two months ago though and hearing that Lucas fuel pumps don't like the stuff, I quickly ditched the veggie oil idea. The problem I seem to be now having though is that the car is taking longer than it should to fire up. The fuel filter was changed a month ago which has made no difference. -
Beating the manufacturers quoted MPG 23 May 2008 (Forum)
Having just read the some of the sites linked to from the other thread about how economical could a car be made, I found the following quotes to be of interest: "completed the 330 mile event using just 19.12 litres of petrol to return an overall fuel consumption figure of 78.39 mpg. This is an improvement of nearly 28 per cent over the official combined figure." "A later event involving three identical Toyota Avensis 2.2-litre petrol cars underlined the effect drivers have on fuel consumption. -

VW Van won't start, then won't stop! 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Two days ago it would not start...plenty of juice in battery, so I thought (illogically) that maybe air in fuel line because of the unusual way the van was positioned, and it prefers the view across the Ribble to facing garage doors! Fuel gauge still registering just above red sector, but no harm in emptying my emergency 5 litres in. -
High Pressure Common Fail Diesels 12 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Mr Aprillia wouldnt touch one; and that scares me. Im sitting here wonedring when my 03 plate HDI is going to trash its fuel system and leave me with a bill for £2500. One of the main reasons for opting for a diesel is the expected reliabilty and longevity. The suggestion now seems to be that we can expect neither. And we pay a significant premium for the privilege of this uncertainty. -
Ford Transit 100 T260 - lack of power 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Sometimes it accelerates at lower speed through the rev range impressively and then the next minute it runs out of steam shortly after the turbo gives a bit of boost. Totally upredictable! It's just undergone a big service, changing oil, fuel, airfiler (clogged worse than I've ever seen one!) and this has made no different to performance :-(. Fuel economy seems fine and it doesn't kickout smoke (that I can see) or missfire. There are no error lights present on the dash. -
Vectra Diesel problem 30 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The car is serviced every 10,000 miles and it was doing this periodically both before and since the last service (Fuel filter has been changed every service since I have had it). -
Troubled conscience 14 May 2005 (Forum)
Did I wait until the new plastic domestic oil tank arrives? Er, no, I added it to the 40 litres of diesel already in my car's fuel tank. But, I have a feeling that I need to pay some fuel duty on this. Anyone know if there is a precedent for this? Or should I just forget about it, and take an extra Scotch at night to help me sleep? -
non start polo diesel 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I know this car was well over due a timing, belt so set about stripping it to check in case it had jumped, it all aligned up, so continued to install a new belt, but still had the problem of not starting. I fitted a new fuel filter to eliminate that and now have made a small fuel tank to bypass the tank, filter and pipework and gone stright to pump, still will not fire. I don't seem to have much pressure at the injector pipes/injectors. -
Poss. electrical fault with M Reg Astra 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
First thing I noticed was the clock on the CD player was blank - its usually lit with the time. Got to our destination and halfway back when the airbag light came on as before, temp & fuel gauges re-set. Bit further down the road the engine warning light flickered on and off and the engine started to run a bit roughly - however this was all for only a few seconds and car started running perfectly normally again, but the airbag light stayed on and fuel & temp gauges were still on zero.
