Motoring Trivia 16 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I wonder if other backroomers have some favourite piece(s) of motoring trivia they like to trot out? Especially handy when an 'expert' shows up. My all-time favourite is:- The Rolls-Royce badge changed from Red to Black letters. When, and why? Perhaps you would like to add to this with your own questions, but no answers until 14th December please to give everyone a fair crack at it. -

Can anyone please advise, what is the situation with the MOT, on a vehicle where the VIN stamped into the bodywork has been removed to effect a weld repair? Car is an H reg Sierra Estate, the VIN is stamped into the floor just inboard of the the N/S door pillar. Is there some proceedure as to notifying D.V.L.A or suchlike, which should be undertaken to avoid problems at MOT time? Thank you, Pete. petel@clara.co.uk -

Tyre noise 3 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Having finally bought the car of my dreams(Civic Aerodeck)I am very pleased with the car, but there is noise from the tyres-Pirelli P600's. I've checked the relevant threads in the Backroom, but wondered if it could be specific to the Civic/P600 combination? It's quite noticeable on normal chipped surface, much quieter on very smooth, worn sections of the road. -

BMW 320d - Compact 21 May 2003 (Forum)
What a great little motor, certainly had plenty of poke and felt just as solid as its bigger brothers that I have driven, felt more like the 330d (character etc etc) than the 530d does. Read HJ\'s test when I got home. Sums it up. -
British Spanner Monkeys 16 May 2003 (Forum)
I don`t know how many other B.R`s notice that many of the reg plates fitted to new cars are fitted way out of horizontal. In some cases, I have noticed the plate almost an inch/25mm higher on one side than the other. This begs the question, - are U.K. spanner monkeys all short sighted, or do they turn up for work high on coke/export lager!!!! -
