Honda Jazz - Jazz manual gearbox. 19 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Going to see another Jazz tomorrow: a 13 plate ES manual with 13k on the clock. Unlike the situation prior to our purchase of the dear old Powershift, I've been doing some research prior to viewing and driving the car. I've been reading about a weakness in the Jazz manual gearbox with some models (I think HJ mentions this too in his review of the Mk 2 Jazz). -
Rover 600 - Getting a flat tyre on the M62 19 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Changed the wheel whilst looking at right-angles to the car so I could watch the traffic and 10 mins later all done. hands were filthy so must rememer to put a pair of gloves in the car for next time. A big bolt had been shoved into the tread. -
N/A - Motor Accident Centre 12 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Some of the regulars may recall that someone drove into my car nearly two years ago and that it took over a year to settle. The whys and wherefores are not relevant to this but things were settled in my favour. Because of its age the car was written off,. I brought it back and now run it on a Classic Policy as it is over 20 years old having brought another car for daily use. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus TDDi cut out and won't re start 19 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Hi There, I'm after a bit of advice, I was driving my focus yesterday when i came to a cyclist, i pulled out to overtake him and BAM car cuts out with the glow plug light flashing. Pull over, get the AA out (car won't restart) he says he's had to pull a load of air out of the fuel line, once this is done he can see fuel coming to the injectors but car still won't restart. -
Hyunda i40 - Gearbox & Clutch Problems. 8 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Took delivery of a new Hyundai i40 last year. Not purchased, just leased as a company car. Almost 12 months old now but already covered nearly 30,000 miles mainly motorway. I have concerns with the gearbox and clutch. When the mornings are very cold and icy the gearbox is very stiff, although when the engine reaches operating temperature this improves.Occasionally from a start it is difficult to select first gear. -
Worst car you have ever owned or driven? 3 Sep 2016 (Forum)
(Renault influence here?) Not looking to insult the owners of such cars, just my experience with one. At least the aircon worked..! -
Zafira, often is - tailgating 8 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Coming home from work yesterday, between the two towns there is nowhere to overtake unless its a push bike or 3am, so i'm following two cars who are in turn following a lorry, it is what it is, the cars were following at reasonable distance and i travelled roughly 100/150 yards from the back of the second car which is about my norm at these speeds. -
Possible crash scam 5 May 2015 (Forum)
I stopped to look into the car. It was an old car, UK plates, with a Russia sticker, two males mid thirties, inside. It occurred to me he might be wanting to wait for another car to pull out in front of. Thoughts? Why would someone pull out, then stop in front of an oncoming vehicle? -
Why do people..... 20 May 2014 (Forum)
There are peope in the Back Room who drive very nice cars, but one assumes that they can afford to buy/lease and run them. I can afford to drive cars which cost a lot more than my S-Max, but it suits my purpose and at the moment, I can find better things to do with my money. -
Ford Mondeo - Expected battery drain when standing? 26 Jan 2014 (Forum)

Honda FR-V 1.8 iVTEC Auto - Winter Tyres - User report 19 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Thought I'd give a little user report on the performance of winter tyres today on a fairly typical FWD family car. Location: Farnborough, Hampshire Car: Honda FR-V 1.8 iVTEC Auto. Tyres: Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D Mud & Snow, 195/65 R15 Rated HH This is the second year of using these winter tyres on our family car, and today was their first encounter with significant, fresh snowfall. -
Accident repair - right to new parts? 13 Jun 2012 (Forum)
The repair job will come to around £400 with the used part, as opposed to £800 for a new part. My excess is also £800. The car is 10 years old and probably not worth a lot more than that. My question is, is the owner within his rights to insist on a new part? Or can I argue that, by fitting a used part in as good condition as the rest of the car, I have discharged my responsibility and restored the car to its pre-accident condition? -
Mercedes Benz E320CDI Sports Estate 2007 - Claimed "total failure" of instrument cluster 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The symptom is that instrument panel and computer display are not activated when the ignition is turned on. The engine still starts and the car is driveable albeit without any instruments or status reports whatsoever. The car is less than 5 years old with a full service record with Mercedes thoughout and has done about 71,000 miles. I bought the car privately last September and was fully working until yesterday. -
Alloy wheels seized on. 5 Feb 2011 (Forum)
So, shortly after I acquired my latest 16 months old Focus, I got out the grease, jacked up one corner of the car and proceeded to remove the wheelnuts. Unfortunately, that was as far as I got. You guessed it ~ the wheel was seized on already! (In fact, 3 of the 4 wheels were seized on.) -
Vauxhall Astra H Estate - A recent Astra recall? 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
On returning to my 3-year old Astra Estate at the local supermaket car park, I found a photocopied A4 leaflet stuffed under the wiper headed 'Vauxhall Customer Notice - Important Recall Notice'. It went on ' We have checked with the Vauxhall database and believe that your vehicle is due a manufacturer recall on a specific maintenance or safety issue. -
Diesel TS2 2005 - Mazda 6 -Limp Mode at idle constantly 1 Sep 2010 (Forum)
However once the car is driven down the road a bit, constantly reseting the EML, it may then drive for up to 40 miles with no problems or check lights, as long as the car is driven and not sitting at traffic.etc. Once again after sitting at idle for a short time, the car wil snap into limp mode and won't rev up over 2000rpm. -
Toyota Yaris - Toyota Yaris - belt whine at idle? 12 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Hi all I recently bought my girlfriend a second hand Toyota Yaris 1.0 litre. (T reg). While standing next to the car, I noticed a high pitched whining noise from the engine at idle, not present under acceleration. It's quite a quiet noise, and only really noticeable as the engine is quiet and if you're outside the car. -
I have an idea 12 Jan 2010 (Forum)
So much can be done with ECUs, "sports" mode can liven up throttle response, can tighten up springs/dampers, can alter gear change profile on auto boxes, so why not "17 year old daughter mode". When buying cars last year, I wanted to find something I could have real real fun in and something else my daughter could learn safely in. Ended up buying 2 cars. (a Polo and a Jag XJS) Can't help but think it would a great idea for dads looking to buy a GTI type of thing with teenagers to teach in the family too! -
Volkswagen Golf V R32 (2005 - ) - 06 3.2 dual mass flywheel problem 10 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I own a R32 Volkswagen bought from new. Just two years old and done 29,000 miles. This weekend without any previous warning it wouldnt get in to any gear. The car was towed to VW for investigation and repair. VW now say the problem is not a warranty (60k miles/3 years) covered item as it is due to hot spots on the fly wheel, with excessive movement in the dual mass suspension. -
Perodua MYVI (2006 - ) - Should I? 1 May 2009 (Forum)
Be gentle with me this is my first posting! This is my dilemma......I currenty own a Honda Jazz CVT. 25k miles and 3 years old. I had a drive in a new Perodua Myvi which a local dealer is selling for just £5999 o.t.r. Brand new. 3 years 60k warranty air con etc. All I really need in a car. Drove ok I am not really interested in how fast a car goes around a corner, it rode well, better than the Jazz, seemed well built, no rattles or squeeks.
