Fiesta 1.25 Zetec 12 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The Fiesta is fantastic to drive and a good example of mid 1990s Ford improvement which lead to the Focus. Anyway. I do not think the car has been properly serviced so will take it in for a full sort out and MoT test. So a few questions: - 1. Cambelt or chain? 2. Car ten years old and 37,000 miles. What should I do other than obvious service items? -
Unusual Sightings Vol 5 5 Sep 2005 (Forum)
t=25308 (Vol 3) http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=31443 (Vol 4) Another thread for commenting on rare, unusual, old or just plain daft cars etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------- What the hell. I was bored and had nothing to do...and well, Stargazer did want a new thread! Not as extravagant as all of your cars but I did see what seemed to be an ST220 in white before. -
Possible NIP and Leaving the Country 12 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I may have been recorded speeding, I was doing about an indicated 80 on a duel carriageway approaching a traffic car with an officer deploying what appeared to be an old fashioned hand-held gun. I slowed down on seeing the marked car. I wasn?t stopped but there was no sign of a second police vehicle. If I have been caught it? -
Vectra C - Blowing bulbs? 9 Jul 2005 (Forum)
more probs with "my lovely car".About 3 weeks ago, I got an error on the computer "check centre brake light".When I could,I did, only to find that it was fine.Last week, I got an error message "check rear left brake light".When I checked, the offside rear, bottom(there's two bulbs) had blown.I actually bought 4 bulbs and replaced them all, keeping the 3 working, old bulbs,as spares.Today, I got an error,"check rear right brake bulb".When I checked,it actually looks as though both rear "bottom" bulbs have blown.Another concern I have is that the error message repeatedly flags up.I thought it should only appear after starting up the car or immediately after detecting a fault.Has anybody else had this problem?. -
Accord Electrical Problem Rectified 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Briefly, the fuse that protects the horn and brake lights has blown twenty-three times. It first started in May last year, when the car was less than three months old, and has been back to the dealer twice and on the back of a lorry to the Honda agent in Brive, France. None could find a problem and the French dealer merely replaced the fuse - again. -
Ford Focus 1.8 TDDi zetec 2001 Query 17 May 2005 (Forum)
My son has looked around and finally decided he would like a Ford Focus 1.8 TDDi Zetec 2001 51 reg with 67k miles.Silver, FSH, sun roof, CD player (multi) but no air con. The car is in good condition apart from a knocking sound under the rear when test driven. The guy who owns the garage that is selling it says that will be sorted. He has a very good reputation locally, is quite elderly and one of 'the old school'which is very pleasant! -
306 Dturbo diesel pump and immobiliser 26 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I have now got a replacement engine for it sitting in the garage which is complete with all ancilliaries. It came out of a later car, 97 phase 2. The breakers that supplied the engine told me I would have to swap the diesel pump for my original one as it stores the code for the keypad immobiliser. The 'new' engine was out of a car that didnt have the keycode, but they didnt know if it had a transponder do-dah. -
Oil filter leaking? Escort 1.3 1 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hi Car is an '89 Escort 1.3 HCS (OHV) I've been a bit of a naughty boy recently and haven't checked the oil in my car since it last had an oil/filter change in January. When I checked this morning, guess what? -
C3 Clutch 3 Nov 2004 (Forum)
They would like a shade under £400 to replace it. My wife drives the car mainley, and I know she is not prone to 'riding' the clutch, and has had no such problems with either of her previous cars, in which she covered more than 40000 miles. Anybody else agree with me that this is unacceptable? -
ATF puddle under radiator crossmember 16 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I don't know if there anyone that help out here as it for an old lady of a car, a '69 Rover P6 3500 Auto. I've noticed that after only about 10 miles, there's a sizable puddle of ATF under the radiator forming on the cross member. I can't for the life of me find where it's coming from. -
Renault Espace 2.2DCi Poor Performance 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
The end result is we get a working car back but the fault re-occurs on average every 8 months and results in a few days back at the dealership. Most recently the car now suffers from a lack of 'pull' in the lower gears 1st, 2nd and 3rd but appears fine at 50mph upwards. -
Focus for 5-series 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I'm not interested in estates, MPVs, 4x4s, or anything French (nothing against the nationality just don't trust the build quality), and prefer my cars to lean more toward sporty handling than cushy ride. I originally considered getting a year-or-so old Mondeo or similar, but I'm now enthralled with the idea of getting something a bit more special, in particular the 2000> BMW 520i (2.2) SE manual, which is the revised E39 with the "halo" effect headlights. -
Rover 400 / Honda Civic 5 Door Headlight 16 Dec 2003 (Forum)
What with these cars and their appetite for head light bulbs. The works pool car is a P Reg 416i, which will happily much its way through 3-4 bulbs a year. My Civic VTI has used 3 in 9 months of ownership and the driver? -
75000 mile Type-S, what needs doing? 7 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I'm now the proud owner of a Jap import Prelude Type-S (the 220bhp monster jobby). For a six year old car that's done 75000 miles it's in absolutely gorgeous condition, and the engine is amazingly sweet. (Revs out to 8000rpm without missing a beat.) It's been well looked after and the guy who's had it for the last two years has changed the oil every six months himself (using top quality fully synth oil), he's put new plugs in (the platinum tipped ones), and generally kept a close eye on it. -
Laguna accident +Brakes 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Does not happen if the car is turned off. They seem alright in use while going along but they now worry me No warning lights, no loss of brake fluid, no sign of fluid leaking from calipers/hoses Thoughts please -
Proton Persona 1.5 GLSi 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The asking price will be somewhere in the region of £1200, but it does need a new windscreen (about £95 apparently) as the old one has two pellet holes in the drivers field of view, as a result of being parked in a less than pleasant part of Nottingham. I'm aware of the Mitsubishi Lancer heritage of the car, and of the slightly rough edges in terms of the occasional rattle and squeak, but everything else seems quite favourable. -
Commercial vehicles for Private use only 21 Sep 2003 (Forum)
As many of you know I drive a SWB Renault Trafic van 2.4T gross weight as a private vehicle for property renovation, in the same way that some people may get an old banger for the same purpose. I have problems at tips etc as they immediately assume I'm fly tipping, whereas I took more rubbish in the car and trailer and was never challenged. If I go to a car boot sale in it I suspect I would be immediately accused of being a shifty dealer and charged twice the pitch price. -
VW Build Quality (Passat) 14 Aug 2003 (Forum)
My list of faults consists of; New back window (3 elements failed) New indicator switch (indicators failed) New alarm sensors New boot struts New dashboard (couldn't resolve the "creaking" after 7 attempts) Now a new Turbo unit. Not bad for a 17 month old car!!!!. You pays your money........ -
Omega...Worth a try? 18 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I've always hankered after a large, 6 cylinder car. Until now I've always been scared off by insurance costs. However, now that I'm getting old and past it I've found that I can get very cheap insurance on this sort of car...so I'm gonna go for it. -
Intermittent ABS fault 26 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Further to Peter D thread of 2Aug02, I also have a 1995 VW golf GTI 8v with an intermittent ABS problem. I purchased the car at 3 years old having been previously run by an office colleague as a lease company car.The problem will only manifist itself in one way. The ABS warning lamp illuminates after driving for 40 minutes for no apparent reason and at the same time the ABS pump starts running.
