Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - '00 1.4 eng. code KFX - losing power when warm. 13 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It started again eventually and has since run perfectly. It was serviced fully this week and had the usual plus a fuel filter. These issues were present before the service. It "feels" like an electrical problem - possibly the coil pack - is this a weakness? Sorry this is a bit vague folks - any suggestions appreciated. -

Vauxhall Zafira B (2005 - ) - 2007/57 Models - Diesel Engine Problems? 5 Apr 2008 (Forum)
All the alternatives (Touran, Verso, Grand Picasso C4) seem to have auto gearbox problems. The Mazda 5 looks a bit small; the Honda FRV has that awful 2 x 3 seating, while the Grandis fuel consumption is too much. Hence, Zafira looks to be the only show in town. Advice welcome. -
Subaru Forester II (2002 - ) - First impressions 28 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Totally satisfied with it, doesnt put a foot wrong really. Ride is a little hard on unbroken surfaces, but then the handling makes up for this. Fuel economy for what has been mainly town work has come in at 26 mpg, not bad at all considering the manual is supposed to average 30 mpg combined. Auto gearbox is smooth although not seamless, kickdown is not very keen. -
Diesel - is it worth it anymore? 27 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Since the car only does 43 to the gallon I'm thinking my days with diesel could be coming to an end as I could easily find a petrol car (admittedly probably a smaller one but that's not a problem) that'll do 40ish to the gallon and I'm saving on fuel costs. I know it depends on the mileage and the car you drive as to whether it's worth it but when you factor in the original premium you pay for diesel cars anyway I find it surprising when the papers say (as they did the other day) that diesel car sales will soon overtake the sales of petrols. -
Volvo S70/V70 (1996 - 2000) - 98 V70 T5 erratic idle and stall fault a mystery 10 Mar 2008 (Forum)
This means I have to start the engine again but the same thing happens. Its been in dry-dock for 3 weeks now and no one seems to have a clue. The first theory was the fuel pump...that appears to be fine. The next theory was the engine management system but that has been tested and it is fine. Does anyone else have any other theories? -
Ford Granada/Scorpio (1985 - 1998) - Cosworth - any ideas? 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
With this new engine in mind, is it worth anything to anyone (on here or not) and how should he shift it? He doesn't really have the cash to do the work - apparently the welding is close to the fuel lines, so lots of labour costs for relatively little actual welding. He's also just had to lay out £1200 for repairs to their other car! Any thoughts from the oracles of wisdom please? Thanks O -

BMW 3-Series E30 (1983 - 1991) - E30 316 M10 1988 Instrument Cluster 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I took the PC Board out from behind my dashboard to have a look at possibly why my fuel consumption gauge per 100 km doesn't work, only to find out that the batteries on the PC board have never been changed and so had leaked out onto the board and caused some damage to it's components. -
Volkswagen Tiguan SUV (2008 - ) - gender 1 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I saw an ad for the Tiguan, an accomplished piece of kit judging by HJ's road test, if neither cheap nor especially economical on fuel, whose key slogan was: 'Das Auto'. 'The Car'. I post this not to draw attention to VW's fairly large implied claim, but the fact that automobil is a neuter word. Of course in English almost everything is neuter, although this doesn't stop people from sexualising ships, boats, cars and cats in their casual references to these things. -
Looking for a New MPV, advice needed 29 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I'm looking to replace my car (most likely with something maybe one year old, at auction) and the following things are important to me: -speedometer and gauges in front of the driver, as opposed to in the centre console (rules out the Picasso) -good fuel economy, ideally a better economy than my 1.9 dTi scenic.... I expect this to be diesel... but would consider a good petrol -i just need a 4 seater, but would consider a 7 seater if it meets the above two points. -
Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - 01 2.0 auto 24k - Change the spark plugs ? 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
It was used primarily for short journeys and I did an oil and fluids change the moment I got it. However, the fuel economy is absolutely appalling (even for an auto), with it struggling to get 28mpg on A-roads. Having never owned a petrol car before, do these things still need spark plugs changing occasionally? -
Jaguar XJ6 XJ40 (1986 - 1994) - XJ40 or BMW E32 series? 3 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Points in favour: Wonderfully 'wafting' suspension Excellent auto gearbox (and lever!) Cosseting cosy cabin Real wood trim Reasonable fuel economy (with restraint) Points against: Rusty bits VFD dashboard display pre-'90 facelift Suspension bush wear Irritating indicator stalk A bit 'bijou' inside relative to external size Metric rims on early models Not as attractive as Series 3, but better as 4-light 'XJ6' rather than 'Sovereign' More rusty bits Budget is about £800. -
Choosing a diesel - What Mazda6 size car ? 31 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I'm a high mileage driver and currently run a Honda Legend (yes, I know but it's comfortable and easy to drive) with 105,000 miles on the clock. I'm contemplating throwing in the towel for the Honda due to spiralling fuel costs and the fear of hefty repair bills as the mileage gets higher and opting for a diesel. Problem is, which diesel? My budget is limited to around £7k and I had thought of a Mazda or Ford but some of the posts on this website have put me off. -
BMW 3-Series E36 (1991 - 1998) - When to replace or refurbish diesel injectors? 23 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I have a '97 325tds touring which I'm very happy with but I'm beginning to notice a lack of power at low revs, lumpy running from cold, poor starting when hot and occasionnal the fuel injection warning light comes on and the car looses power but this rectifies itself when I lift off and re-apply the throttle. The car has done 133000 miles and had a new diesel injector pump 2 years ago at great expense, I would like to keep it for much longer. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - yr 2002, 1.6 8 valve. Using carb cleaner 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I know some cars have those hot wire type sensors (forgot technical name) and they can be ruined. BTW it's a 2002 1.6 Astra 8 valve so not that hi tech but multiple fuel injection model. Thanks. {additional details added to header for future forum searches. Also presume you meant carb cleaner and not car cleaner?} -
Audi A4 (1996) 1.8 starting problem 17 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I left the car with them but of course it didn't play up for them. They suspect something in the ECU, possibly related to a relay in the fuel pump which switches from 'Startup' to 'Running' mode. It's beyond their expertise. Has anyone heard of this relay? Is this a known problem? Problem seems to have started after another garage fixed a tickover problem where tickover was surging up and down between 1500 and 3000 - fix was to replace a broken emmissions hose, but I'm wondering if that episode blew something in the elctronics? -
Suzuki Liana (2001 - 2007) - 02 GL 1583cc Loss of Power. 30 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Getting up hills was a struggle, putting my foot to the floor only got me as fast as 60 on a good incline and when idling the engine judders excessively. Any ideas what this good be? My amateur deduction suggests maybe a block in the fuel line or something preventing the engine from firing on all cylinders. Cheers if anyone can help! subject line tweaked - PU -
car security 19 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Both cars in position and the doner car running, shut driver's door and central locking kicks in (supposedly not working!) So there I am with a locked car (bonnet still shut), engine running with £30 of fuel in it in the pouring rain. It took half an hour's worth of thought and a few false starts but finally worked out how to gain access without breaking a window or cutting holes. So, anyone who wants to know how to get into a '90's Previa in less than 20 seconds just send some used tenners in a plain brown envelope to the usual address. -
'95 Legacy 2.2 auto - Engine cuts out 14 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Yesterday whilst driving the engine cut out several times, petrol was ok, when driving i lost all the revs then a couple of seconds later the engine cut out, I put the gearbox into N, turned the key and away we went again. I have a suspicion it may be a fuel problem or something to do with the engine management. I'll probably have to drop it into a garage, but if anyone could pass on some advice i'd be very grateful and i'd also know if the garage is trying to rip me off.
