  • Company van taxation. 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Can anyone tell me how the taxation costs compare with a company car, I will have private use and free fuel, as I do at present. How is the BIK worked out, is it based on emissions/purchase cost as with the cars or something else. I ask as if I have to have a van I might as well have a decent sized Transit style thing, rather than a rather poxy Vauxhall Combo type thing that some of the engineers have.
  • Vegetable Oil instead of Diesel 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I am aware of the possible starting difficulties due to the viscosity in lower temperatures and I was wondering if anyone has tried it with this type of engine. I am intending running the car until warm and then disconnecting the fuel lines. I will then connect a supply and return to the pump with the ends placed in a 3/4 full 2 litre bottle of vegetable oil. This method found in various websites.I am not intending using the car on the road while experimenting so the paying of the 26p per litre duty will not be required.
  • My car is more economical than your car 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Maybe if so many motorist didn't kid themselves about the wonders of their motor we might get really fuel efficient cars at last.

Had the car servced at Ford main dealer and their answer was a) I had the wrong light and had mistaken the cold temp light for the heater warning light b) After a short test drive they said there was no problem that they could see They advised that the fuel filter had been replaced during the service and if there was a problem that should resolve it. Am going back to them on Monday as the problem is back . Any ideas cos Im no mechanic
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - Plastic brake pipes - safe? 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My dads car (same car) had the brake pipes done last year and they are metal all neatly put round the fuel tank, on my car they seem to come from under the sill. Is this dodgy workmanship? I am going to have a good look under the car on saturday when my machanic puts it on the ramp but until then?

  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 02 2.0 Reluctant to start 13 Oct 2008 (Forum)
There are no warning lights. Performance is fine once it's going. It went into the garage yesterday and had the fuel filter changed (they said it cured the problem but clearly not), and short of dragging it to a dealer to see if any codes are logged I'm not sure what the problem is. Has anyone seen this issue before?

  • Forecourt petrol pump prematurely cutting out 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Yesterday I filled up at a fuel station that I only visit occasionally. Right from the start the pump kept cutting out prematurely no matter how gently I pressed the trigger or how much I withdrew the nozzle. The attendant said it was due partly to the speed of their pumps, but was due mainly to a combination of my car model and my technique.
  • Castrol Edge HTHS Viscosity, mPa?s @ 150ºC ??? 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The most common test here is ASTM D 4683, which simulates the conditions found in an engine's crankshaft and connecting rod bearings, as well as other narrow regions. This measurement has important implications for such factors as engine fuel economy, valvetrain wear and bearing protection." Source http://tinyurl.com/5zxtwz
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - 08 2.0 Lighting of mirror adjust controls and UK s 6 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The trip computer shows MPG, which I know is traditional in the UK, but isn't that helpful. I would love to be able to see miles per litre...I know how much a litre of fuel costs. I also think if there was a way of adjusting these settings I might be able to turn of the daytime lights mentioned elsewhere.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2005 TDCi How many keys should there be? 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone confirm that? And where do I stand? Should I be compensated for my expenses ( time off work, CC, fuel)?
  • Mitsubishi Shogun (1999 - 2007) - I've taken the plunge... 21 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The interior is tidy (although the radio has been removed without care), and the bodywork only has a small dent in the wing. The leather seats are without damage. Its just the immobiliser and the fuel-pump that make it a non-starter. Oh, and its got no history with the vehicle (apart from a phone call to the supplying dealer confirming the only times they saw it was at 80K for a service and MOT).
  • MB London black cab. 10 Jul 2008 (Forum)
It also has rear-wheel steering that lets it meet the capital's strict 25ft turning circle rule and is able to carry two wheelchairs compared to its rival's one. Mercedes claims it will also be more fuel efficient. ..... is expected to match the TX4's price tag of £34,000. London TV had significant coverage. • Land Rover Defender (1946 - ) - 1989, 2.5 Turbo Diesel, Starting problems 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hiya, My old Land Rover's not starting! I have plenty of battery and fuel, but when I turn the key I get a single click and then nothing. It doesn't even try and turn over. A couple of days ago when I was starting it up in the morning it gave a high pitched whirr without turning over, but when I tried again it started normally.
  • Subaru Forester II (2002 - ) - PX insult 24 May 2008 (Forum)
We popped into our local Toyota dealer, my misses wanted to have a look at a Yaris auto as shes really keen to go for something smaller what with fuel costs rising at a now silly rate. Anyway, we got pushed through what appeared to be a set process that the sales staff religiously stick to and finally got to the px figure on our Forester, an 04 2.0 X AWP auto with 35k - Subaru dealer local to me said its worth £6k maybe a little more, retail for £8k.

  • HJ doubting diesel 29 Apr 2008 (Forum)
In HJ's Saturday Telegraph column today he comments to a reader that he is getting so many reports of failed DMFs/clutches, injection pumps, injectors, turbos, intercoolers and EGR valves on diesels that he wonders whether overall running costs may be cheaper for petrol engined cars. Now I don't agree with HJ on everything he writes but it was EGR valve problems (and mis-fueling concerns) that put me off a diesel C Max last year. We have heard various stories on here about the problems mentioned by HJ and there are backroomers who wouldn't buy anything other than diesel because they favour the driving experience.
