How do i know when to change the glow plugs on my 124k mile astra 1.7dti? i have no service history for it. Can anyone tell me when the change period for this item is?
Also is there a pollen filter on these cars? The car has AC but i couldnt find a pollen filter under the engine bay. Ive tried lifting the trim around the wipers but nothing there. Halfords computer system says it has one on!
Also how do i know what tre pressure to inflate the tyres to ? - There is no handbook with the car and its not on the inside of the fuel filler cap which is the normal place. They are on 175 14" Michelins.
Thanks in advance

Glow plugs rarely have a recommended change interval - if they work....
The pollen filter is accessed by removing the glovebox.
There are many tyre and rim variants; but 34F 30R lbf/sq/in looks about right for a 175/80/14 on a TD.

tyre pressure are 2.4 bar front and 2.1 rear up to 3 passsengers/cold, there is no set replacement time/mileage for the glow plugs, the management system is able to tell you when there is a fault with them, ish !!!!!!! (it puts the light on the dash and this means pay the dealer what he wants so that he can sell you some parts) pollen is a glove box out job !!!!!!

Im not that up to date on glow plugs - ive always had a petrol car. Do you have to change them - and if you dont can it damage the car?
The car runs sweet - ive done a basic service - oil filter - air filter.

Re: pollen filter. As already mentioned, behind the glovebox. Here are some extra instructions.

Be careful inserting the new one as it can easily be torn - the trick is to twist it slightly to get it into the housing; as I found out when I didn't twist it and snagged it on something and ripped a hole in it.

it will make no difference to the running but will cause difficulty in starting from cold, and will put the eml light on to warn you of a fault

If your glowplugs don't work, itwon't damage the car-it won't start.

If it still bursts happily into life on these cold-ish Autumn mornings, your glowplugs are fine. Only think about replacing when it doesn't burst happily into life on a cold morning.
As others have said, glowplugs don't affect how the car runs once its started. They're a starting aid only.
