Peugeot 106XR Quiksilver 19 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Peugeot 106XR Quiksilver - Engine cuts out Help! I purchased the above S Reg (Sept 98) in May 04. Whilst driving the car home from the garage, a distance of 6 miles, the engine cut out 4 times. The car started immediately on turning the ignition key. I immediately contacted the garage once I finally got home and the car was collected by the garage. -
Decisions Decisions. Vectra for Vectra. 7 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, to cut a long story short:- Been offered £5100 for my X Reg Vectra CD (yr 2000, 2.2i Auto, with 40,000 miles on the clock) against a 5 month old Vectra Elegance (again 2.2i auto, yr 2003, 53 Reg) with 9,000 miles on the clock, priced at £12,995. Book price on mine is around £4500 (glass\'s guide, similar pricing with Parkers) I\'ll soon need 2 new rear tyres, and have a worn rear suspension bush (hence the visit to the garage to confirm, and the reason for needing some new tyres) costing around £230. -
New Audi A8 W12 22 Apr 2004 (Forum)
In the dry, the way it serenely picked up its skirts and flew, totally drama free, was just as impressive. The built-in phone system is the best I have used of any car (though a colleague\'s Merc runs it close), and the list of gadgets would fill an encyclopedia. Remote controlled air conditioning and heating to prepare the interior environment before you arrive to get back in, anyone? -
Rear End Shunt - One for the Legal Commu 1 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My friend has now received a letter from the local police requesting details of the driver in relation to an alleged offence of careless driving / failing to stop. Question: My understanding of s.170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 is that there is no legal obligation to stop, give any information to any person or report any incident to the police follwowing a collision with a vehicle and there is no damage to that vehicle or no injury to any occupant of that vehicle or my vehicle other than myself. -
Repair or Scrap? 20 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The timing belt on my brother's S Reg Vectra 1.6 went on Saturday night. I am getting information second hand just now but as it stands he has been advised that the engine is goosed and will need replaced. Car has done 108,000 miles, he still has 5 x £200 payments left to make and he has been quoted £800 to repair, but at this stage I am not sure if thats for a recon or what, and whether labour is included. -
Pug 309D Mystery Coolant Leak.... 11 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Due to the near impossibility of actually being able to see exactly where the leak is comming from - even when the car is on wheel ramps & cam belt cover off - I\'m suspecting perhaps the water pump seal has finally gone and I\'m getting a very small leak somewhere round it. This seems to flow it\'s away around and drip off the lower part of the engine. All hoses are fairly new and show no sigh of cracks etc. So I\'m intending to have a go at removing the water pump and fit a new gasket. Q: Can the water pump actually be removed and re-fitted with the engine in place?? -
Fiesta engine (?) problems, Help! 9 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I've got a fiesta 1.3 finesse, 98 s - reg. it's a really good car, but.... it loses power. not all the power, about 15% of it at various times and only for about 10-15 seconds or so. e.g crusing along the motorway, keeping up with traffic (you know the speed), then the "power loss" kicks in and the engine can be heard slowing down, and the speed drops thro 70 down to about 65, then after 15 seconds it all picks back up and normality returns. it used to do it once in a while (once a month (?)) -

Drivers or car operators - Discuss 19 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Take your 18year old boy racer out of his new clio or corsa and stick him in a MkII escort from the late 70's see how far he travels on that B road before he gets a close up of the hedges. I regularly see young guys braking through corners, or approaching corners too quickly knowing their ABS will 'safely' allow them to take off the excess speed on the way through. -
Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm on Discovery 10 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hence I phone around some independents and found them charging anything up to £350 to supply and fit The best quote I had was £260 plus £25 for a driver\'s side central locking motor, so that all doors can be locked with the RC fob. Total £285 inclusive of VAT The system I have been offered is a Laserline, which the chap claims has better build quality on the central unit than many of the others. -
No cassettes on new Toyotas? 16 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I can only get a cassette if I fork out for £3000-worth of colour DVD/SatNav or somesuch! I can\'t believe this. There is a slot in the Corolla\'s dash below the radio that I could slot a cassette deck into, but it would have to be a third party unit, and not sure to be compatible with the Toyota CD/Radio. I like taping BBC radio plays at home, to play back when I do my regular 3-4 hour trips up to Manchester. -
Pirelli P6000s really that good? 9 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Well, they\'re certainly long-lasting and not too noisy but compared to my old Michelins, they\'re about as grippy as a greased weasel on a frozen lake. I\'m no a boy racer but I do like to drive fairly quickly on the open road when there\'s no-one about but the Pirellis scare theout of me when they start to lose it on a bend. Anyone know of a decent alternative to the Pilot Exaltos? Not time to replace the P6000s yet but I\'ve been thinking about Michelin Pilot Primacy for when I do. -
VW Golf door locks 7 Jun 2003 (Forum)
And now the red flashing lights that shows that the alarm/immobilser has been activated only comes on when you turn the key twice in the lock, which is the opposite of what\'s supposed to happen! 3. The pasenger door sometimes doesn\'t let me open the central locking, the key just turns and nothing happens. Has anyone else had problems with their locks? I am sure that I read somewhere that the locks were redesigned from 1999/2000 unwards can anyone confirm this? -
car insurance 4 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I rang my insurance company and asked them if I could reduce their costs by upto £1000 would they be willing to 'reimburse' me the loss of my excess and loss of NCBonus the following year(s). They said unfortunately they couldn't. Their hands were tied no matter what I saved them.'It's the system' they said. Howver they said they would still appreciate me telling them 'what I know' and any help to get their costs down. -
Noisy PAS 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The garage blokey topped it up for me (it had gone down but not loads) and said that it did appear to be noisey and now it is booked in for them to look at this Thursday. As I know nowt about PAS, is there anything I should watch out for to avoid B/S from the garage and also unnneccessary work? Anything I should ensure to check that they have done? I noticed that the fluid is a bit murky, should it be clean and clear or is a bit brown acceptable? -
free insurance or not? 19 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The other given is a 21 year old South African nanny (uk licence) and insurance is MINIMUM £2k in London, no joke....! yes, yes get another nanny I hear you say, but you try explaining to two under 5's them that you sacked the nanny 'cos the insurance is too high....? doesn't fit in to barbie world now...and it is Christmas So it seems that best deal is to go for one of those 12 month free insurance offers with VW or Renault, but knowing the 'going south' residuals for anything resembling garlic, I am erring on the sauerkraut side of things.. -
Traffic Lights on Rondabouts 27 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I use this roundabout a lot, but have not noticed any significant improvement in traffic flow at peak times. However, it does now scare the s*** out of me on occasions. This is when traffic is stopped on the roundabout by one set of lights and tails back to partially block the previous exit, causing traffic for this two lane exit to converge into one lane. -
escort 1.3 hcs 12 Jul 2002 (Forum)
So it would seem to him that my only option would be to replace the engine with another H.C.S. lump. My thinking is that it's not the piston ring/s that have worn but the stem seals. If anyone could enlighten me more i would much appreciate it. thanks. -
excellent police driving 31 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Point is, I was expecting to be tailgated to within a few inches of my life, which seems to be the norm these days for idiots speeding on the motorways if you happen to get in their way. OK, so if (s)he was in a hurry, maybe the blue fairy lights should have been on, but either way the speed seemed to be handled safely. Sorry if this is a bit rambling, I never could get to the point quickly (especially in the Clio) -
Ford Galaxt TDI sluggish performance 24 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I have a 1998 (S reg) Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI 110Bhp with 28,000 miles on the clock. In mid-May 2001 I had the clutch & slave cylinder replaced (due to my wife's heavy foot). At the time of replacement the garage failed to reconnect the Turbo Charger in-let (?)
