pug 306 warning light? 6 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I removed the rad cap and it went off so I bled the system at the heater, the rad top and the small pipe by the fuel filter and ran engine up to working temp, no leaks. this morning light came on and went off again. do I have a faulty light or a major problem? -
Alternative to Road Tolls 12 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The Government keeps repeating the same tired old arguments about congestion and carbon emmissions and the solution being to tax people off the road. Time for radical rethink. How about re-introducing fuel rationing, but with every adult being issued with vouchers. Those who do not have a vehicle or did low mileage could sell their vouchers on the open market to those who required more. Pensioners and the disabled would sell theirs and use the proceeds for buses, trains, taxis. -
Corsa SXI 11 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Economy / performance - Most of my miles are long slogs up and down the M6. What are noise levels, refinement, and fuel economy like? Anything else - any must have options? I see A/C is only £300....is the CD any good? Thanks, CF -
Jaguar x-type 2.0 Diesel noise 17 Jun 2004 (Forum)
It's an irregular clicking sound which can only be heard from inside - a bit like indicator clicks or the noise electric fuel pumps sometimes make, but not as loud and, as I say, irregular. I may only have noticed it because the car is otherwise so quiet, but I was wondering if anyone knows what it might be. Other than that, I'm very happy with the car. -
Question for Dan J (Mondeo TDCi auto) 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
What is it like to drive in practice? (Thought someone else asked this question recently but can't find it.) Fuel cons'n figs still don't look that good in comparison. Is it worth arranging a test drive or merely a waste of salesman's and my time? The driving experience is more important than the figures. Plus of course the auto is only available with Euro III engine which is another big minus. -
Clio - brief dash fault 27 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I seem to remember a problem of this kind on the forum before, but can't trace it: SWMBO reports that her Clio 1.6 (00W) twice had a dropout on the fascia today. The first time, the fuel gauge fell and the warning lamp came on briefly. The second time, most dials fell to zero for a second or two, and she reports a buzzing from behind them. Running of the car not apparently affected. -
Faulty starter motor on Vauxhall. 27 Jan 2004 (Forum)
After having our car engine on our carlton practically rebuilt, new head gasket cam shaft etc. We came to start the car and got this awful buzzing from the fuel relay, we got a new one from a scrap yard and came to start it again it turned over and then cut out (not surprising it had been stood for 4 weeks) any way after charging the battery we then came to start it and it was as though the battery was almost flat, despite having boooster cables on it. -
Audi a4 diesel leak 21 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have a 99 2.5 tdi audi A4 which has an intermittent fuel leak. Having picked it up and filled it up there appeared a leak under the car. Took it to my local garage who informed me I must have overfilled the car as there was no leak evident to them. Thinking no more of it have recently discovered reasonably small amounts of diesel appearing on my driveway. -
How many miles do you have to do 20 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have done a few sums and can't make the diesel car pay its way. higher purchase prices are not ofset by fuel savings unless you keep the car for ten years, which is unlikely Even buying new the same seems to apply. So at what point does a diesel make sense - 20k pa? This is pure economics at work - not driving characteristics... -
Vauxhall Omega 2.2 DTi CDX smoking 30 Dec 2003 (Forum)
The car has been in the dealership twice and the answer from Vauxhall technical department is that a sort of exhaust system is creating the smoke and that this is normal operation also fuel drips from this exhaust pipe under the offside wing. Choking their customers with CO fumes is normal ????? Help SteveO -
About to purchase from New-car-discount. 26 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Offered to deliver it straight to the door, have told them I will go to Stockport to collect. They have said that they will give me a full tank of fuel. Is it just me? I just feel it's too good to be true. Probably just being sceptical but they are nearly £2,500 cheaper than the same model from a VW dealership. Anyone think I'm over reacting of should I just go ahead with the purchase. -
£5K to spend, what to buy? 22 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Love the Focus handling, but this is not so important if I am driving my 'own' vehicle as I wont be thrashing it quite so much. Servicing, Insurance, Fuel costs (or lack of) quite important as I have a feeling I am going to be skint for a while before getting the new business going. Any advice most appreciated. Mondeo diesel starting problems 26 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Have not removed the glow plugs yet. Seeing a large amount of smoke when it starts up i am guessing the fuel does get through okay. any idea what can the problem be? If one glow plug is faulty should it start up at first attempt like on petrol engine with a fauly plug??? -
OK - it's time to ask the experts!!! 23 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I own a VW Passat 1.9 TDI (2000 W) and use REDEX all the time, and my brother-in-law has a mondeo TD and he has just started using, with no ill-effects as yet a product from a company called GREASED LIGHTNING he has given me a leaflet showing the "Fuel system treatment" suitable for petrol and diesel cars??? - this worries me a little, wouldn't it be better if something was specially for a diesel engine? Also instant engine treatment which claims to quieten it down ?? -
golf gti miss fire 15 Nov 2003 (Forum)
When it misses the rev counter doesn't twitch I have replaced the following plugs leads dizzy cap + rotor arm fuel filter stp injector cleaner The rest of the time it runs great, it revs smoothly and quickly, pulls well but this is baffling me. i have only had the car 3 weeks (didn't show up on the test drive) and it is begining to bug me. -
Toyota Yaris or Nissan Micra 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
For a normal 4 speed unit. Can a Micra be recommended. I actually like the look of the car, has good kit, is cheap to fuel and insure. Any pitfalls? Automan -
Servicing costs at Ford Ind.Specialists 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The car was in for a main or as Ford call it a 'standard' service at 65000mls. Parts replaced were plugs, oil and all the filters( air, oil, pollen and fuel). Also replaced was a valve on one of the wheels that had a slow leak in it. My question is were they justified in charging me £266.00 inc VAT for all this? I know it was a main service but that does seem steep, especially when you consider they're not even main dealers! -
Renaut Diesel V 3 litre petrol 20 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Renualt espace diesels get a v bad press - engines fall to bits - see HJ in DT today, plus HJ car by car breakdown etc etc etc Has anyone any exp of the renault 3.0 petrol as in the Espace? I do less than 8,000 miles pa, so fuel consumption not a big prob, plus a always worry about diesel pumps and turbos on out of warnantee 3 yo diesels. Or should I go for a Galaxy/Sharon 2.8 V6 petrol ? I like the boot space in the grande espace though ! -
Difficulty Cold Starting Audi A6 2.5 TDI 7 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The engine does not start particularly easily when cold (even in summer) and often requires several goes on the starter motor until it catches on enough cylinders for the engine to run. Once running, the engine performance and fuel consumption is normal. If I try to restart the car 3 or 4 hours after it was last used, it starts perfectly. Any informed ideas would be gratefully received. My own thinking is tired glow-plugs, but the a number of sources have said that these will only affect starting below freezing. -
Engine management problem - 1999 Vectra 5 Sep 2003 (Forum)
In addition rev counter and speedo momentarily return to zero and trip counter resets. The garage have replaced crank sensor twice, fuel pump relay and also wiring loom and shielding to crank sensor, but none of these measures have solved problem. What do you think is wrong and should I ask for a refund from the garage as they haven\'t fixed the problem?
