Car Insurance EXCESS question 28 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Just been surfing the comparison sites for good car insurance deals-interesting. Questions plse. I see that there are two excess options- a compulsory and a voluntary. So if the compulsory excess is £200 and I also opt for a voluntary excess of -say-£250--then I have to pay the first £450 of any claim-yes? -
Mazda Bongo - Buying a car on behalf of daughter, complications! 25 Nov 2018 (Forum)
For the journey back which will take 2 days, what do you reckon the cheapest way to get insurance cover for myself will be? My current thinking is that one of those temporary car insurance specialists might be best then my daughter can sort her own insurance out when we get back home? Any thoughts/advice would be gratefully received! -

Do you like it love it or loathe it? 12 Feb 2015 (Forum)
To this day, despite decades of having to cover substantial annual mileages, by and large I still get a good feeling when I turn an engine on in preparation for a journey, I look forward to the feeling of driving and still enjoy it. Do you still like driving, or if life allowed you to do without your car, would you rather not bother? -

Ford Fiesta mk4 1997 - Car door lock driver's side 9 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi, still driving this car but recently and all of a sudden my front door will not unlock. I can always open it from the inside. what i don't understand is that sometimes it unlocks and locks and sometimes not. i have read the forum here about a broken spring and i'ive tried WD40 and even bought a graphite lube spray from maplins which i squirted into the keyhole. it doesn't seem to be the cylinder and i tried starting to use my other key which has been put in the draw at home for years. i wonder what i could do. i have taken the inside door cover off but the latch is all a sealed unit...seems a bit difficult its not a central locking type but mechanical its a pain as it will fail an MOT in a months time as the door locks shut and also wont open with the outside handle even though i wasn't able to lock it with the key if i could take it out (ive got a haynes)and check it does it need some grease ? -
Subaru Legacy 2.5 (2005) - Crankshaft aux-belt drive pulley disintegrated 1 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Pulley seems to be a "Sandwich" construction of an outer metal drive ring with a rubber cushioning layer thats then all-bonded to the pulley that engaages on the end of the cranbkshaft. The bondng/glue appears to have come apart I bought the car from a main-dealer in June with a years with a subaru proven warranty (its a 2005 MY car) (A) Is this a known issue with these engines, or indeed other vehicles - I have never had/seen it happen in 20yrs of motoring on mine or anyone elses car. -

Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.3 Best method of changing air filter? 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
This might sound like a daft question but I changed the air filter on my dad's car a few weeks back (same engine 1.3). i found it quite hard as the top of the cover did not lift off, I had to slide the old out and slide a new one in, it took me a good 15 minutes (compared to about 30 seconds it took me to this my MK3 Fiesta and my dads old Ladas). -
2001 Ford Mondeo Duratec 2.0 Di EGR? 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Dear all, Have a 2001 ford mondeo 2.0 diesel covered some serious miles in it as its a taxi 186,000!!!! Had a problem about 5 months ago were the car was running fine at start up and after a few miles it would start spluttering if it was rev'd hard it would chuck white/blue smoke out of the back. -
ECU problem - Hyundai Accent 1.3i 5 Mar 2006 (Forum)
and how much do you think it would cost to repair- he was quoting me £648 parts and £40 (1 hour) labour. The car is probably only worth £1,000 - so this would hardly be worth it. Are there on-going driving issues ? Have I just been very unlucky with my car as it was only covered by a 3 year warranty. -
VAG 130ps diesel engine lifetimes 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I am in the process of selecting a replacement car for a rover 214i.. a pushbike being a good suggestion by a friend! Seriously though, I am covering around 25000 mile each year, and am not prepared to take a hit on the depreciation on a new car that this mileage will inevitably bring! -
New XType Diesel Has Broken Down 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
What astounds me is why Jaguar are using a Ford Engine/ICU combination that is know to have the above problems !!! The car is with the dealer awaiting a repair and probably a new ICU PS the Diesel, when running, is a lot quicker than the 2.5 V6 XType loan car I have been given. -
VW Passat Cam Belt Tensioner 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Recently bought a W reg 1.9 TDI 115 bhp with 75000 miles on the clock. Due to a horror story with a car a nearly bought breaking its cam belt on the day of collection (covered in earlier post) I had the new dealer agree to a cam belt change. I have since had some very bad dealings with the dealer that I finally purchased my car from. -
omega problems? I'm not sure! 12 May 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone have an OMEGA 2.5 TURBO DIESEL AUTOMATIC and if so can you tell me if the problem Im having occurs with your car, the reason I ask is one person tells me its right, and another tells me its wrong... Ahhhhhhhhhh ! THE PROBLEM - when driving at all various speeds the car handles a treat until you take your foot off of the accelerator, then the rev counter immediatley drops back down to idle speed (around 700 rpm) and there appears to be no engine braking at all, Down hills especially with foot covering brake pedal it feels like car is in "n" position and coasting. -
'96 BMW 728i M52 Engine - Advice?!! 27 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I'm just about to buy an April 1996 728i with (I guess) the Nikasil M52 engine. The car has covered just 62,000 miles with fbmwsh. I don't believe the car has had the cylinder block replaced. I'm getting a full RAC inspection done prior to purchase - should this pick up problems re: bore wear (eg in a compression test?) -
