  • MG MG TF (2002 - 2005) - Laying it up 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
To look after the battery I will be attaching an Optimate battery conditioner that has kept my dad's old VFR battery going for many years so not turning the car over won't result in a dead battery. Blue
  • Ford - KA (2002) - Smokey on cold startup 4 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Ford ka, 52 plate, 40k miles, fsh (oil changes every 10k but now due). Old 'Enduro' pushrod engine with injection. Car is producing a fair bit of grey (not blue) smoke on startup when cold, worse after standing overnight, worse again on cold days. Just a bit too bad to 'let it develop' although once warm, its fine.

  • BMW - ABS MoT failure? 17 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I'm looking for a 2nd car and have been offered a 9 yr old BMW 320i by a family friend who's leaving the country. FSH etc and in good condition. The only problem is that the ABS has a intermittent fault and the spare part and labour apparently will cost over £1000.
  • Megane Scenic RX4 - Cambelt DIYable? 21 Jun 2007 (Forum)

  • Fitting a bike rack - Zafira 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
There are some plastic dumbell things that you trap behind the door hinges. I assume the straps on each side reduce left - right movement. The rack is about five years old from Halfords. I'm not anticipating going more than ten miles or so. Q1 - Is this sort of right / safe ? Q2 - Would it be legal assuming you can see the rear lights and registration plate. Q3 - Which bit of the car is bearing most of the weight ?
  • Merc B Class woes 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Is this bad design, or what? A few years down the line, how many B-class owners will curse their cars when told of this if their pumps fail?

  • Aluminium or steel sumps better? 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Surely they are more expensive to manufacture and therefore a puzzling feature on a volume car. ---------------------------------------------- One mans junk is another mans treasure
  • Fabric roofs and chamois 11 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Not even sure if I should be washing it when I do the rest of the car. Any advice, as ever, much appreciated. (I realise not to use the chamois on the roof, btw!) Happy Easter to all Lee -- He\'s a cheeky wind-up scamster and he\'s on the radio....
  • Jaguar C-XF 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
i've tried to get him interested in the new XF, which he's warming to, but his missus doesn't like Jags because 'they're old mens cars'.........nice! whilst he was in my office, I rang my local dealership to enquire of the XF......apparently it's going to be available in January, not December......the salesman said they've had unprecedented interest (although i suppose they would do wouldn't they)..but they'd had 24 deposits already.........nearly a year in advance!.....
  • Ex Met Police BMW 530d 24 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Seeing my old 'Ex Met Police Vectra V6' thread being resurrected got me thinking; I'm not in the market for one, but I'm seeing more and more of the Metropolitan Police BMW 530d cars going through Ebay and on Auto Trader for what seems like good money.
  • Accord Diesel Service 17 Feb 2007 (Forum)
My Accord Tourer will be three years old at the beginning of March, so yesterday I booked it in for service and MOT for 28th February. I was asked if |I wanted an emissions service for it - £19.99 + vat, and a brake check with the wheels off - extra again.
  • Drunk Driver-Fine+ Ban + wrath of wife 9 Feb 2007 (Forum)
A man left early for work so he could pick up his wife - but knocked her down after his car skidded off the road in Perthshire, a court heard. Perth Sheriff Court heard how Paul Neil called 999 to get help but was then breathalysed by the police, who found he was over the limit. The 43-year-old admitted driving while one-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit on 12 November last year.

  • Corroded disks 27 Aug 2006 (Forum)
When they are replaced I expect them to stay corrosion free until they get wet. Staying on the subjet of brakes: Do you change the fluid when it is 2 years old, when the lowering of its boiling point indicated the presence of water, or both? My relpy is: When it boils to soon.
