  • Terrano:Broken clutch after engaging 4WD 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Recently put my Terrano car in for service and on the test drive whilst driving the car after the service, the mechanic engaged the 4WD whilst the car was moving. The car then lost drive and they had to tow it back to the garage. On inspection the clutch had broken with the inner part having sheared off from the outer part.
  • Driving someone else's car - insurance Q 31 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Friend is picking up a new car tomorrow. He is trading in two cars against the new one. My question is -- am I legally allowed to drive one of his cars to the dealers, to save him two trips? I have fully comp in my name with Direct Line. I rang to add his car to my insurance for a day, but friend's car is still insured in his name, so Direct Line would not add it to my policy (risk of double-claim, they say).
  • Vibrating steering wheel on Fiesta 28 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Any ideas before i take it to the garage on Monday? -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
  • extreme drink-drive case thread 19 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Given that the drink-drive case is either in the process of going to court, or started, then there is a possibility that discussing this matter on any public bulletin board could hold the author in contempt of court. What started out as a quite innocent question by the author, it has now expanded and his personal opinions have been expressed about the person as well.
  • not knowing who was driving 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
If drivers use the "I really couldn't say who was driving" ruse to try to avoid a scamera ticket, why don't the authorities just impound the car that was caught, and say "OK, we'll keep the car, until you come forward with a name, and tot up an £x a day bill for storage, which will be added to the fine.
  • renew my car later in the year 22 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I've said in the past that shortly I would like to renew my later in the year for a New Vectra Estate 1.9td. But after watching Jeremny driving that VXR on Top Gear, I've had second thoughts. I know most will say we shall never have to drive like that. Which is true. But it worries me where I shall also tow a caravan and I don't want to worry about ploughing straight on with or without the van in bends or corners.
  • Census 14 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Driving into this morning and home tonight I went past two laybys where the boys in blue were pulling in vehicles - signs coming up to the laybys said "Traffic Census". I can't recall seeing this before in 20 years of driving, so the question is what exactly is a traffic census?
  • Driving abroad ? 3rd party only 19 Jun 2006 (Forum)
xml=/money/2006/06/17/cmtrav17.xml ) {Link repaired - DD} informed me of something I did not know about driving abroad. Many insurance companies issue Green Cards (usually for free), but you are only covered for 3rd Party claims only. You have to pay an extra premium to have comprehensive cover extended to go abroad.
  • Extended Driver Seat Runners for Daewoo 18 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Im back with more space shortages problems. My dad just got a a 2002 Daewoo Nubira SE 1.6L. I am going to be driving it every now and again but due to my freakishly long length I will definatly need to extend the driving seat runners so I can fit in comfortably. Can anybody link me to a website (and ideally, to the exact thing i want).
  • Mercedes E320CDi - losing power 11 Apr 2006 (Forum)

  • Insurance heart attacks 13 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Currently a named driver in my own car on my mum's policy. All above board, approved by insurance company. I'm now 21 and have been driving for 3 years, so thought about getting a quote for my car. (1998 Citroen Xsara 1.9TD) Tried First Alternative - told them I had no NCD, had no accidents in last 5 years or penalty points, and drive 5000 miles per year, with the car on the driveway in Devon.
  • Drink driving ban 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
A neighbour?s son has recently been banned for drink-driving. He received the statuary 12 month ban for a first offence, £800 costs and a fine of £800. At the time of the offence his mother was becoming seriously ill and in fact by the time the case came to court and he was banned she had died.
  • Test Drives - liability? 22 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Dealer didn't put the usual trade plates on and car had tax disc. However when I got back I noticed the tax had expired. If I had been stopped by Mr Plod - driving an untaxed car, would I have been liable as I suppose the onus was on me to check this, or would the dealer be liable. It's ok now as I didn't get pulled up but I'd be interested to hear opinions or actual legal position on this.
  • Audi A3 Drive Shaft - Passenger Side 16 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hello Recently my passenger side drive shaft went (forgive the lack of technical knowledge - it basically came loose and spun round with no drag to the actual wheel). This was replaced with a second hand part by my old man, but low and behold about 3 weeks later the exact same thing happened.
  • Silly little boys with silly little toys 28 May 2005 (Forum)
I have held off asking this question for ages, but cannot help myself. Why do people want to drive modified Clios/Saxos etc? I understand being young and I understand going fast, and I understand wanting to show off in a vain attempt to pull women... I am not that old myself! BUT WHY do they drive around town continually?
  • Insurance - where kept overnight 9 May 2005 (Forum)
My concern is that if I specify on the drive and its damaged/stolen when its parked in the street then the company may not pay up and equally if its pinched off the drive and I've told the insurance company I keep it on the street, they won't pay up either!
  • Computer related questions. Volume 39 22 Jan 2005 (Forum)
A hard drive problem. My PC runs WinXP (SP2 installed) with a 40Mb HDD partitioned as C, D and E drives. It's a Medion and came that way. No problem for a couple of years, but now on bootup, I get an error message to the effect that Drive D needs "checking for consistency" and (unless I override it) it then runs a disc check before declaring all OK.
  • Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.6 '03 Locked Steerin 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Additionally when driving normally the car feels like I am driving with a full load in the boot, this sensation lessens at 50 or above. I have checked the tyre pressure. Can someone tell me if this is normal.
  • thought I'd seen it all! 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
It wouldn't surprise me if she was also one of those parents who claim they have to drive their kids to/from school in the interests of safety!!!!
  • Question for Dan J (Mondeo TDCi auto) 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Did they ever sort the mismatch between the TDCi engine and the Durashift gearbox? What is it like to drive in practice? (Thought someone else asked this question recently but can't find it.) Fuel cons'n figs still don't look that good in comparison. Is it worth arranging a test drive or merely a waste of salesman's and my time?
